Catfish

Okay, Wylie! I never eat anywhere over here but I kept seeing this spot all over Facebook. They have fans for a reason. Food was delicious and came out fast, crawfish was pretty reasonable at $9/lb when we went. It's true Louisiana style, not like a crab boil. The catfish with etouffee was really good, we were full but couldn't stop eating it. It tasted a lot different than other ones I've tried. My boyfriend loved the cornbread but I prefer them super sweet, almost cake like. This one was still pretty good though! We're in a super crawfish phase right now and will be back!

NOLA style crawfish that you can't beat on this side of town! Love the service and the seasoning. 10/10 every time. The happy hour is also great. Feels like you're ima daiquiri shop in Louisiana. Good people good vibes!

The South is our favorite New Orleans Spot in Wylie. Me and my husband favorite spot . I love our Sundays here

The food here never disappoints! Tonight I tried the Michelada on their drink menu, and it was yummy. We started with the Crawfish Meat Pie, and I had the Crawfish Etouffee Bowl and it was delicious! Hubby had the Oyster Po Boy with a side of red beans and rice. Our waitress was great and the owner was super friendly. Wonderful place

Our waitress was super nice and attentive but the food...oh my word the food is delicious! This was our first time but it will not be our last!!!!

This place is hands down the best eating spot in Wylie. Staff and especially the owner are super helpful and polite. I've got 2 picky kiddos and they leave their plates free of any crumbles. :) Not pictured is the corn bread and bread pudding. Both are amazing!!

Fat Cajun Combo $25.00 -- everything was delicious EXCEPT for the oysters. Read my review.. it made me sick :(

When you're paying top dollar for food ... (from a place like The South) you expect it to be amazing, right? Well, this restaurant is giving us culinary whiplash--one minute, it's great, the next you're left wondering if they dropped the ball! No doubt The Dirty South for $20.00 is a delicious deal!! The catfish is delicately blackened, smothered in a crawfish étouffée sauce and served over your choice of dirty rice or jambalaya. The homemade candied pecans sprinkled on top is a nice unique twist! "Yum" will roll out of your mouth with each bite! Why three stars? The Fat Cajun Combo was not worth $25.00. Although this dinner provided a generous portion of fried catfish (fried in a delicious cajun batter I might add), the shrimp and oysters were an epic failure. The shrimp were small and chewy (over cooked) and the oysters were fried but soft, runny, very smelly fishy fishy taste. Awful!! Since this was my dinner -- I ate more of the oysters than i should have. I know better. Then I paid the pipper -- I spent the rest of the night with a headache, stomach cramps and diarrhea. Maybe I shouldn't have eaten 3 of the oysters, but I kept hoping that the oysters would get better. The oysters was half the dinner, lol, I felt a lot of pressure to eat them because it was so expensive. Whomp whomp. The South was packed when we arrived on a Friday around 6pm. We had to wait for 10 minutes to be seated. Honestly, that was not a problem. After we were seated they forgot about us. It took them too long to take our order. That was a problem .. especially when there's only 7 tables in the whole restaurant. For such a tiny space, getting service and stopping by to check on the food should be a priority. If someone would have asked how we were doing, I would have said something. We will be back for The Dirty South when the mood strikes us, but other than that, we are discouraged to try anything else from the menu!

If I could give this place 6 or 7 stars I would. We stopped here for lunch after going horseback riding nearby. It's a small place with a simple concept and everything was very clean. The staff was very friendly and super helpful. I had the fried catfish basket. The catfish was a large piece of fried catfish served piping hot and the hushpuppies and fries were fresh and absolutely delicious. I got the swirled frozen daiquiri which came served in a bag and was very strong and very refreshing. One of the employees brought out a couple complimentary crawfish for me to try and they were so good. My husband got the chicken wings and let me just tell you I am still dreaming about them. Amazing wings. Huge, juicy, well seasoned perfection that don't need a drop of sauce. Saucing those wings would be an insult. I wish I saved room to try some of their dessert but alas we will just have to come back another time. Please stop by here and support a local business with some top notch food.

8/30/24: Neighbor and I stopped by for lunch. This was our first visit. It was pretty busy and we sat at the bar. This a small location, there are several tables, and the bar sits five. We sat at the bar. Porter took our order, and he was very friendly. He also was tending to the bar, and running the food out from the kitchen. The food took about 25 minutes to come out, and it was nice and hot. My neighbor had the shrimp platter, which had about six two bite shrimp, a couple of tiny hushpuppies and coleslaw. I had the chicken sandwich with fries. Looking at the menu, the 16" Po'Boys seemed pretty expensive. The restaurant is nicely decorated, and there are TV's throughout. Parking is plentiful, and it's easy access from the street.

Jambalaya balls were excellent!!!

I've been wanting to try this place for a minute. Finally found some time to rally the girls up and give it a shot. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The device was excellent. Owner and manager both came out to greet us, definitely a dying tradition in customer care. They were out of the jambalaya but the owner let us try the jambalaya balls on the house. They blew us away, loaded with meat and flavor these were a crowd pleaser. I had the fried shrimp po-boy, it was delicious..no complaints. As my side I got the gumbo which was also loaded with meat and hit the spot. We really enjoyed our visit and hoping this place stays around for a long time. Also wanted to mention that this place is giving back to our community which is a huge plus for me.

Ask the Community - The South

Is it there wait service or us it fast casual?

It's a good mix of both. You order, pay, and then grab a table. But the food is made to order, and the space is intimate enough where they still check on you regularly to make sure you don't need anything.

There is a certain energy in a restaurant when people trust it, and Creekside has that. We started with the crab and shrimp dip, which came out hot, creamy, and loaded with flavor. It is one of those appetizers that everyone at the table keeps going back to without even thinking about it. For dinner, we ordered the Red Snapper Alexander and the chicken cutlet parmesan, and this is where the night really took off. The red snapper was cooked perfectly, topped with sautéed shrimp in a white wine sauce that added flavor without overwhelming the fish. The balance was impressive, and the presentation matched what you would expect from a much higher priced restaurant. Then there was the chicken parmesan. As Italians, we do not say this lightly, but this dish stood out in a big way. Creekside blends Alfredo and marinara into a creamy, well-balanced sauce that takes a classic and elevates it. The chicken was lightly breaded, the mozzarella was fresh, and every bite delivered. We awarded this dish our Best of the Best for Chicken Parmesan, and that is something we reserve for dishes that truly separate themselves from the rest. Service was excellent throughout the night. Our server Erin was attentive, knowledgeable, and helped guide us to some great choices. One small note, the fish and chips did not quite match the level we had experienced on a previous visit. It was still good, just not at the same level we had come to expect. That said, it did not take away from what was otherwise a fantastic meal. If you are looking for a place that delivers an upscale feel without the upscale price tag, this is it. Great for date nights, family dinners, or just a night out where you want consistently good food.
