We met some friends for a dinner during the Christmas holidays. I've been to the Smoking Pig on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed. I usually have the BBQ beef brisket . The best chopped pork I have ever eaten!! Yelp reviewers sent us to the right place for the perfect barbecue. We pulled into the parking lot and it was jammed packed. You know you're at the right place when you see the deputies and officers along with power company workers lining up to eat - and yes, there is a wait - but not too long. I ordered the chopped pork plate, loaded baked potato casserole (to die for!), and cold slaw. The pork was good enough to eat without sauce -- but the vinegar and regular sauces did add to the flavor of the meat - not overwhelming it. Clemson fans enjoy - you can look at the scoreboard for last year's Clemson/Carolina game as you eat. For this Dawg there was a little too much orange but the food is worth it. read more

After all the hype and waiting 45 minutes to get a table, I was disappointed. The hostess is outside and when our buzzer went off we were told to go inside. Ok we did and had to figure out what to do next as no one is there to help. After asking a few people we were told to order our food and go to the back room We did and again no one there to tell us which table to sit at so we just took one. I wanted a taste of the typical BBQ so j ordered the pulled pork, brisket and ribs. Side of jalapeño grits and sweet potato casserole. You could hardly taste the jalapeño in the grits, sweet potato casserole must have been scraped from the bottom of the pan and the last of the pan as it was most one big piece of brown sugar stuck together. The ribs were way over smoked as they were too dry and hard to eat. Pulled pork was also very dry requiring way to much table BBQ sauce to be used. As for the brisket, drenched in grease so much I couldn't eat it all. My son tried the okra and didn't have more than two pieces. But the rolls and ice tea were good! read more

The original Smoking Pig. I've been eating here since they opened & consider myself a regular. There is something to be said about a restaurant that is only has to be open 3 days a week (Th-Sat). Arrive early or late for your meal & you MIGHT have a short wait. If you arrive anytime near a standard meal time, be prepared to wait (Don't fret, it is 100% worth the wait). This is definitely the best BBQ place you'll find in the south east. All that said, here are several things I've tried in the past... Entrees: -Glazed ribs: yes, please...falls off the bones & full of flavor. Sauce is tasty & messy, as ribs should be. The dry rub ribs are also very good. -Chopped chicken: super tender with a great flavor. Our go to entree if we are trying to stay on the "healthier" side. -Chopped pork: my default...so good, especially when swimming in a mix of the hot BBQ sauce & their mustard sauce. -Brisket: perfection...tender, flavorful, cut with a fork -Chicken fingers: the only reason I've tried these is leftovers from my kids, but they are surprisingly good. -BBQ dogs: a unique combination...imagine two hot dogs, topped with a mound of pulled pork BBQ & coleslaw. Sides (They can't really be ranked...they are all that good!): -Jalapeño Cheese Grits: perfect mix of spicy & cheesy. Favorite #1 -Loaded potato casserole: imagine the best, loaded baked potato, all mashed up & put into a bowl. Favorite #1 (again) -Sweet potato crunch: Sweet with a perfect crust. (this should count as a dessert, but we are in the south, so it is a side). Favorite #2 -Sweet potato fries: covered in powdered sugar & honey. Delicious. Favorite #2 (again) -French Fries: excellent fries, but I rarely get them, because of the other sides. -Fried corn on the cob: seasonal item, so it is t always available. super tasty; I would eat it first. The longer it sits, the less perfect it is. Desserts: -Banana pudding: I love banana pudding & consider myself a banana pudding snob, so I don't take this part lightly. I tried it once & it was pretty good...but with sides like jalapeño cheese grits, loaded potato casserole & many others, I can't bring myself to "waste" a side item on banana pudding. read more

O. M. Gosh! I have found a new standard for ribs! I got the glazed ribs and they were meaty, not fatty, and had the best flavor I've tasted in a very long while! I usually eat 2-3 ribs but we ordered another side of ribs---just couldn't get enough! Also tasted hubby's fried okra and his baked beans and they were really good too...but I save my tummy for the ribs--yum, yum, yum! read more

This was a pleasant excursion into the best ribs that I have ever eaten...anywhere! The family we were visiting insisted that we go to the Smokin Pig for lunch. They made the claims that I have heard time and again about it being some of the best barbeque I will ever have. I didn't think much of the claims but was willing to give another barbeque place a chance. OMG! The Glazed Ribs raised the bar for me. These were the best ribs that I have ever tasted. Anyone that loves ribs and is visiting in the Clemson, SC area needs to stop here! I will never go through this part of South Carolina again without stopping here for ribs! read more

Eat there 9/8/17. Good food, but not worth waiting an hour and a half for. The plus was they did have a live band and corn hole games going in the parking lot to pass the time and the service was good. After waiting in line for 30 minutes, we had ample time to peruse the menu and I decided I had to go with the combo plate of ribs, brisket, and pork (it was too hard to pick just one). My sides were fried okra and sweet potato fries. Other sides we had at the table were the loaded potato casserole and Brunswick stew, both delicious. The service was good, with free refills on sodas and iced tea. OMG... The best darn BBQ I've ever had in my life! We were visiting from Miami and we were craving some good classic BBQ. Found this place on yelp and gave it a try. We ordered a bunch of stuff of the menu to share. For the sides we picked the loaded mashed potato, coleslaw, sweet potato fries, and the baked beans. They were all delicious and it would be hard to pick only one as my fave! We tried the ribs and the brisket and it was just incredible. Softest most juiciest brisket ever! Glazed Ribs were packed with flavor. We didn't need to add any additional sauces because everything was just perfect. The staff and waitress were so friendly and nice! One of them took the time to explain the cooking process and how they start prepping the meat on Monday and cooking it to perfection by the time they open to the public on Thursdays. Best brisket in the upstate, coming from someone from Texas where brisket is king. We'll definitely be back for more.

Enjoyed our late lunch / early dinner here. We arrived at 3:40 or so and had a wait of about 20 minutes-not bad. The decor is very casual....people have written on the tables and the divider between the restaurant and the kitchen area. Lights over the tables have metal pails as lampshades. It's a fun relaxed atmosphere. The staff is very energetic and pleasant. Food: my chopped pork was really great as was the roll. Smoky deliciousness (the pork). My sides were disappointing which is why I rated the place 4 stars rather than 5. The sweet potato casserole was ok- really sweet and parts were sort of sugary burnt. The peach cobbler was straight up bad. The peaches were hard. There was about a tablespoon of crust, in the bottom of the bowl. The cobbler was flavorless. My husband enjoyed his brisket and his sides. I tasted the cheese grits and must say I wished I'd selected them-they were very flavorful. He got cole slaw as well which he said was good. read more

I'm only giving five stars for the food. The service and organizational side get a 2. I have called ahead multiple times. Hours sometimes days in advanced it has never once been ready on time or for that matter the correct order then I receive an attitude that it is my fault. I am in the hospitality ad restaurant business and if it wasn't for their food being awesome they would be out of business. But I guess people put up with the awful service. read more

This place is everything that delicious BBQ should be. Holy moly goodness! We were with two little ones so we ordered our dinner to go. We chose the chopped pork, with all three sauces on the side. They were all so good our group had a hard time picking a favorite, but the vinegar sauce won by a small margin. We also ordered sweet potato casserole, grits, fried okra, and Brunswick stew. All four were fantastic. The stew was my favorite and the grits were close behind. We got a package of buns as well. I only wish that this place was open daily and closer to my house. I ordered the two meat plate with Brisket and Pork as my meats and for my sides, I did fries and banana pudding. The fries were not the best but that is not why I got Smokin Pig. The meats were fantastic and since I do not have the largest appetite I got to have my two meat plate for dinner and lunch the next day! I got my food from the food truck because I was taking it home but I have sat inside and I love the decor. The employees have always been extremely friendly. I have worked at two BBQ places so I am familiar with the typical menus and prices. I recommend The Smokin Pig 100%. read more

While SC is not really known for their great BBQ, this place was pretty good. Being from Eastern NC I have a tendency to compare to that style. This was definitely not Eastern NC good, but for SC it was worth the trip. I got the chopped BBQ which had a great smoke flavor. A decent amount of bark chopped in with the lighter meat. Based on comments on here I tried the Brunswick Stew - not disappointed at all. About a 15 minute wait right at 12 noon which was not bad. Substantially more of a wait on the way out as the crowd had grown. Service was very good once seated. I will be back! read more

OK, I'm somewhat of a BBQ snob (but then again, who isn't?). The brisket was some of the best I've had. Tender, moist, tasty. Make sure you make that part of your meal. The pulled pork was disappointing to the entire group -- dry, not much smokey taste, and missable. Too bad. The sides were good. Took the family on Saturday. Even tho other reviews said so... was really surprised at the crowd at 3pm. Anyhow, I hate to... but have no choice but to agree with the small minority of people who have said... "What's the big deal???" The service was FANTASTIC!!! Great group of girls working the tables really well. I mean we literally could not take 3 sips of our drinks wihout someone there refilling them, and asking if there was anything else we needed. The food though... I'm not sure what level is below "MEH"... but whatever it is... that's where I would rank "The Pig". We pretty much stuck with the pulled pork and ribs. Both were extremely dried out. The fried okra was not drained well and way too greasy. The sweet potato crunch had an "ok" taste, ... but, um.... there was no "crunch". :) The loaded potato casserole tasted like it was made with canned potatoes. THAT is a southern sin. Considering where we live, the Smokin Pig is quite a drive for something so unremarkable. For half the drive, and a fraction of the cost... We'll head in the other direction and grab some Bucky's on Pleasantburg. I agree with the Yelper who said... "because of where they are (Clemson) and the fact that they have no competition... they'll succeed". Umm... yep... I think they are. And my very best to them. Just a little P.S. ..... Pretty darn good. In SC there are lots of different styles of BBQ. I like this one. Interesting operation. You order at the counter and then sit down and they bring it to your table. Decent service for a busy place. Decent prices. Ribs, pork, brisket & chicken; no turkey (my favorite). A selection of sauces from the tomato based to mustard. Definitely going back next time we get that way. Only problem are all those crazy Clemson fans!! Go tigers! read more
