Good food, but way overpriced! Will not go back to this restaurant. No reason for 3 people to pay $80.00 for meat and three lunch.

Today is Sunday, May 3, 2026, my wife and I have both been craving fish and chips, the only option that we had was Culver's, however, we found "Boondocks" in Anderson, and decided to give them a try, what a great surprise it was too, we have found our fish and chip place, the portions are large fresh Fish, not frozen lightly coated fried to perfection. It was just delicious, the fries were crisp. Everything was very hot and delicious. The service was very friendly and helpful answered all of our questions, they are only open from 11 to 230 for lunch on Sunday after church. The place was packed, but our food was brought quickly and efficiently, we definitely enjoy it. Got to spend a couple of minutes talking to the owner, who's a very nice guy, and you can tell that this is a family run business, and they cater to their customers. There were a lot of regulars as the wait staff was addressing them by name and saying thank you for coming back back. read more

First time eating here Sunday lunch. Seated immediately although the place was hopping. Our server was Linda who was extremely helpful with the menu choices and actual food content ( for healthy choices). Fried fish was exceptional. Light flaky fish that was most. Lightly breaded, crisp and great flavor. Large portion. Came with 3 sides and corn bread. Vegetables were fresh and nothing was frozen. All hand prepared. We'll definitely be back. The meal was under $50 for two of us. The staff was friendly and relaxed. Meet the owner who is very personable and friendly also. No complaints from me on this experience. read more

We have been going to boondocks for several years. I've never had a bad meal. Gus, the owner is an excellent host and will come out to the tables and check on everyone. The servers that he has have been working for him for 30 years. This evening I had the 12 ounce steak and my wife had the salad with grilled chicken once again. It was excellent. We never have to wait to be seated. The atmosphere is inviting. They have a bar with wine and beer. My steak was cooked perfectly and I could not eat the entire meal. The food is hearty. The service is ok. They don't bring the bill you have to pay at the register. The place is rustic and good for kids. Looks like beer is all they serve. I had the salmon and it was good. I like that they removed the skin. The broccoli and cheese was good not so salty as others restaurants serving the side. Mashed potatoes were creamy. My husband loved the chicken fried steak and the gravy, the rice was loaded with gravy. The creamed corn was typical. They have daily specials and they are reasonably priced. Ordered the chicken fried chicken with two sides. The chicken was actually pretty decent, and came with white gravy. Ordered the rice and gravy and green beans as the two sides. The green beans were flavorless, and the rice and gravy were cold. There was no bread, and no side salad option. On a positive note the server was very kind although she never refilled my drink. I will let you judge whether this was a $13.50 meal with a drink. read more

This place is awful. It has so much potential but yuck. I had the chocolate bread pudding and it wasn't done- I puked in the parking lot. My mom and I both got it, and got sick. When we mentioned our concerns to the waitress, she says "chocolate bread pudding alright!" As in she knew it wasn't good. Never again. read more

Sorry in advance for the essay, I enjoy being as thorough as I can. We visited this place tonight, at like 6 on a Thursday. The line was out the door with a 45min+ wait time, I took this as a good thing at first. Things went downhill from there. During our wait, a man went inside and came out with a beer, not a good start. He had at least three beers while outside, it sort of ruined the atmosphere with his buzzed yelling, but we'll get to that part later. We are finally seated with our family and order our drinks, my tea ($2) to my gf's water. We order the 3 for $10 appetizer platter with fried mushrooms, cheese fries and fried pickles. The shrooms were baby bellas fried up in a thick flour batter and were typical in taste. The fries had bacon bits and a slice of a very heavy cheese, probably smoked gouda, they were good. The pickles were very similar to my own, with a light batter and a satisfying crunch, very good. Unfortunately, the fun ended there. My gf sampled the fried Grouper, where she described it as having been frozen, but overall still good. I ordered a custom burger with the regular beef, lettuce, tomato, bacon, monterey jack and the house specialty sauce: Chipotle mayonnaise ($.50). What I got, unfortunately, was a unseasoned smash-burger with almost no trace of the specialty sauce. To put this experience into perspective: the burger was tasteless to the point where the green leaf lettuce simply overpowered everything, even the bacon. At one point my burger fell apart so I took the notion to just eat the meat by itself and was greeted by blandness, there wasn't even any taste from the grill. As for the tomato, it was obliterated by the moisture from the patty and the weight. My gf got the custom fried chicken sandwich, with just bacon and mayo. What she got was what she ordered, but the mayo swapped for a slice of cheese, and she had to ask for mayo. She commented that the cheese took away from the sandwich as a whole, but the chicken was good. Onto the fries. I have no idea what happened here, but it was pretty bad. The entire table noticed this strange, but overpowering taste that I later figured out was celery. This flavor was not present in the cheese fries, but it was so strong here that a handful of them had made me sick to my stomach. The gf simply couldn't eat them at all. Oh, and remember that slightly buzzed guy from before? I sure wish I didn't. By the time we left, this man had consumed at least 7 known glasses of beer and was horribly drunk and very loud, so much in fact that no one at my table could hear me while I yelled at the top of my lungs. Our waitress was inattentive, as we all needed our first refills that we didn't get until we were nearly finished eating. In closing, this store literally says that it only uses locally sourced product, but I'm fairly certain that's not true. Quite a few tables in a small space equate to a viciously loud atmosphere, with less than stellar food at a somewhat decent price. This restaurant opened in late April 2016, so perhaps it'll be better in the future. Time will tell. read more

Well I will give it 3 stars, because the livers are good and the mac and cheese was fresh made not package. The hamburger steak tasted like a frozen BUBBA burger you but in a box of 8 from walmart. The mash potatoes were instant and when we asked if they had TEXAS TOAST , they said yes and brought regular thin white toast that looked as if it was cut with the knife on a nail clipper. If you're down for some fried greatness, then this is the place for you. I came with my brothers family. Really nice atmosphere inside and good for kids. My nephews and I had the bird dogs...a new food to this Yankee...fried chicken fingers and bacon on a hotdog bun with honey mustard, covered in cheese. My sister in law -loved- the fried fish basket. I met a friend for lunch here and was impressed. This is a great "joint" that is family friendly. They have a formula that appears to be working quite well, at least a t lunch. The parking lot was packed, every table occupied, and a line stretched to the door at 12:20... Come early if you want to get back to work on time. I had a burger that came with a salad and honestly had a tough time eating it all. The burger was well done, I would have preferred that they as me, but regardless this was nice lean meat in a large patty... fries were just perfect. The salad was crisp, large, well put together. The ice tea was excellent. No complaints from me. It's not fine dining, but it excels in it's field. You are going to get your money's worth. I would go back. read more

Ok, so this place is new in town and recently opened up (within the last 4 weeks or so), and it's always been fairly packed around lunch and dinner times. It's right by my office on Highway 81, but both Google Maps and Apple Maps (through Yelp) will take you the wrong location if you use their addressing. The Boondocks is actually located further north on Highway 81, closer to Concord Road. It's across State St. and Southern Scents. Now as far as the restaurant goes, I've actually been twice in the last two days for lunch. Their lunch menu is pretty simple - basic salads, "bird dogs," and burgers. Their burgers are their specialty and they offer beef, chicken, and I believe a brisket/sirloin options for the meat. On my first visit I tried the classic bird dog and actually thought it was really delicious! The bird dog is a fried filet of chicken breast with bacon, cheese, and honey mustard on a hot dog bun. Their chicken is perfectly fried and offers great flavor and a nice crisp & crunch. I went with the classic, but they have like 6 different options to choose from. On my second visit I went with a beef Diner burger - a party with cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon (lots of thick sliced bacon!), and a fried egg. Needless to say it was very good! The patty was good, although I wish they would've asked what temp I preferred. They cooked it well done and I prefer burgers to be done medium. But that's just my preference. On each day I had the fries and my friend had the onion rings and both sides were delicious. Overall, I think it's a great lunch spot (for two people it came out to $22 with tip). I'm not sure if their dinner menu is expanded, but I'll definitely check it out for dinner. The place is new so they're still working out kinks in their service which is to be expected. The other major hold up is they only have 1 cash register/till so every person has to pay for their meal at the front counter instead of letting servers handle the tickets. This creates a major logjam and it's a terribly slow process. I give this place 3 stars based on food, and if their service improves and the efficiency for payments improve, I will update it to 4 or 5 stars. read more

The reason I giving it three stars is because of the service, the service is slooooooooooow. We only have an hour for lunch and it takes so long to get our drinks ordered, food ordered, refills and get the check. It's just aggravating when it takes a little over an hour to eat lunch. read more

Service = - 2; food = 4. In town for Labor Day weekend to visit family. Decided today to head to Boondocks to enjoy a good burger. I thought at first I was imaging it, but our server (initials are HB, I believe) never once smiled. She never said, "you're welcome" as each and everyone in our party of six said "thank you" on multiple occasions. She seemed significantly annoyed that we were there. I'm not kidding. Downright annoyed. The one and only time she showed a modicum of graciousness was when she handed me the bill and said, "thanks for coming" without any smile or thanks in her voice. If she hadn't been in her 20s I might have wondered if she'd had Botox for the extreme lack of expression (beyond annoyance!) that she showed. As a previous food service worker I always start with 20% tip and you win or lose % based on service level. It is extremely rare that I give less than 15%. This young lady received a flat $10 as I was so annoyed. Trying to be empathetic I wondered allowed to my local family if she'd had heard bad need or just having a bad day. One of them that frequents the restaurant said that if that were true the girl had bad news every time they were there because she was always that rude. We left her a note that said, "we hope your day gets better and your smiles bigger." But to be honest, that entitled little lady won't change her attitude and that's too bad. You sincerely don't deserve any tip. Beyond her surliness, she also got my side item wrong, didn't bring my son's lunch until we all had eaten much of our own and didn't seem to be willing to give us refills without being irritated. The food was plentiful, hot and tasty. Unfortunately, whether we lived in this area or not we won't be back. Advice to Boondocks owners: get some quality servers or they will ruin your business. Invest in the right kind of people and your business will blossom. Keep this kind if waitstaff and it will chip away at all the great things you have to offer. read more

Horrible waitstaff named Marissa who kept playing with her hair, has lots of facial piercings, didn't deliver our take out order, added $2 charge to the bill for no reason, and tried to deliver us burnt chicken wings already retired to the kitchen by the manager Hunter, who never should have brought us 10 burnt wings first. When I told the waitress she was horrible, Hunter tried to stop me for explaining to her why she was receiving no tip. Is he involved with her? What a mess.
