You order at the counter and they prepare your food as you are on the other side of the glass. There is one person that does the meat and then the tray gets passed to the next person who gets your sides for you. Then you move to the register where you give your drink order and pay your tab. You are given the option to pay with a card or get a discount for cash. You get your drinks and find a table. As busy as they were, we wondered if we would be able to find a table. There were plenty of they also have some tables outside but it was super hot. I had the pulled pork plate and my son and husband both had the chopped brisket. The pork was good but the brisket was amazing. Brisket is amazing when done right and this was done very right. Full of flavor and moist and juicy. AMAZING. You have three different sauces you can try. They are at the tables. Hot, regular and mustard based. All had great flavor and the hot wasn't real hot. As sides we had the Brunswick stew, Mac and Cheese and cheesy hash browns. The Brunswick stew is less chunky and more fine. The flavor was good. The Mac and cheese was very creamy in a white cheese sauce. It was really good. The hash browns were full of flavor. I would definitely order the Mac and cheese and hashbrowns again but probably would skip the Brunswick stew. Not that it wasn't good. I would just try other menu items first. Just FYI. No alcohol. But you're coming here for the food. You won't even miss having an adult beverage. The tea is freshly brewed and all you need. All three of us left stuffed. I took half of my meal home with me. They definitely give you plenty to eat. We shared a banana pudding at the end because my son wanted to try it. It was very rich and creamy. Not sure if it is available every day because the menu just offers a dessert of the day. Two of us shared it and there was plenty to share. Of course, this was after we each had already eaten our dinners. And we're already stuffed. But the person at the table behind us was raving about how good it was so we couldn't resist. The employees were friendly and they kept the line moving. There were two kind ladies out in the dining area refilling drinks and making sure tables were cleaned as soon as people left. This is the kind of food you dream about after you've been there. So very good. We will definitely be back soon.

They brought the coleslaw ON the sandwich instead of a side of coleslaw. Explained it to waitress number 2 who took the sandwich back to get it corrected and bring us some pork rinds. A couple mins later reappeared with pork rinds and a kids pulled pork sandwich with the coleslaw on the side - like a 1 oz bbq sauce size plastic cup of coleslaw, not a side order of coleslaw. My friend just shook her head and let it ride because now it was almost 45 mins after we sat down. Our receipt wasn't itemized so we couldn't even check to see what we were charged for. The bbq is still great at this location, but the service was not last night.

Iama Critic Rating - The Pompous Pig - 5 Stars 3320 North Main Street, Anderson, SC Overall: It is appropriate that Chef Iama Critic would review such an incredible and iconic BBQ restaurant for his 100th review! The Pompous Pig has every right to be a tad arrogant as they make some of the best BBQ in the country, and likewise Chef Iama Critic is one of the best reviewers ever to eat BBQ! lol $13.39 Brisket Plate - 5 Stars This brisket was ordered with sweet potato fries, sweet potato casserole, and comes a bread choice, which was corn bread. The Pompous Pig's brisket is easily in the top three briskets we have ever tasted. Apparently Anderson County SC. is the brisket capital of the country as one of the other best briskets is only miles away! The fries are very good but could use a little sea salt. Eat them while they are hot as fries don't store well. The casserole was a four star cup. I am no lover of corn bread but that doesn't keep me from knowing that this corn bread is top notch. $7.79 Sausage Plate - 5 Stars This sausage plate was ordered with collard greens and apple raisin broccoli, and comes a bread choice, which was Texas toast. The beef sausage was excellent, but the Tejano sausage was perhaps the best item I tasted at The Pompous Pig. I can't express how much I dislike collard greens, but then I tasted these. Surprisingly sweet, too sweet to be collards, yet with a meaty and smoky essence! And the broccoli is exotic, much like I used to make up in Chicago. If you love great sausage you know how hard it is to smoke it and it not shrink into a ugly shriveled weany, so kudos to The Pompous Pig for these plump beauties. $10.54 Half a Chicken - 4 Stars This half chicken plate was ordered with baked mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese, and comes a bread choice, which was a toasted yeast roll. Why doesn't everyone toast their yeast rolls? I hate yeast rolls, but for some reason toasting them with a little butter makes them magnificent! The macaroni and cheese is some of the best for its type. The baked mashed potatoes fell flat compared to the wonderful flavors of everything else. These mashed taters needs some other spices or ingredients. The chicken however was perfectly cooked and smoky pink! As it ought to be! But I thought the chicken a bit too small or overpriced when compared to the competition. $8.74 Pulled Pork Plate - 5 Stars The Pompous Pig's pulled pork plate came with the same choices of two side items and a bread choice. I used this exquisite, smoky pulled pork to make a sandwich using a portion of my toasted yeast roll. I made a little topless sandwich and it was utterly delightful. The Pompous Pig does pork right! $3.59 Brunswick Stew - 4 Stars I found this stew to be wonderful but missing a bit of flavor. Maybe a bit more spices. I added some pepper which helped. And then I added on of The Pompous Pig's BBQ sauces, which did the trick. The price is a bit steep for a cup this small. The Sauces: The Pompous Pig's BBQ sauces run the gamut from Sweet, to Hot, to Vinegar. They are all good, however a few really stood out. The Hot Vinegar was fabulous, the regular Hot was extremely tomatoey, like you get from using tomato paste in stead of tomatoes, which gives you a sweeter flavor in your hot sauce, and the White Alabama sauce was unique. Final Thoughts: Most of The Pompous Pig's prices are reasonable, especially considering their quality level. The portions are correctly sized and their sauces are exceptional. One of the top three BBQ places Chef Iama Critic and 5 Star Restaurant Reviews has ever reviewed. So congratulations to both of us, to me for reaching 100 reviews, and to The Pompous Pig for providing me with a meal worthy of the distinction! read more

I finally got to stop here and eat yesterday. They had a chicken special, 2 piece breast, and 2 sides for $7.89. Ordered the fries, which were very good, and a decent amount, and the cole slaw, which was ok. The Chicken was 4 star good, and they had a variety of choices for sauces, which included, hot vinegar, mild vinegar, mustard based, hot and mild tomato based, and sweet hickory, which is the one I settled on mostly. The staff were quite friendly, owner was hands on, and the staff checked on me a few times to see if I needed anything more. Very nice touch. I ate in their outside dining area which has a cover, and a bunch of tables. There is also ample inside dining area as well. Place was also clean. A keeper for sure. read more

I love this place as I go here all the time when I'm working and have an hour or 2 downtime. The staff is extremely friendly, and the owner is oftentimes around as well. I usually get their Chicken special which is a barbequed chicken breast with choice of 2 sides, & bread (get the Texas Toast its awesome). I was given a sample of the beans, and get them everytime now as they are a mix of 5 different beans, with a mix of heat, spice, and sweet, very unique and delicious. They have ample indoor and outside seating under a veranda as well. This place is a gem, try it you'll love it! read more

I recently dined at Pompous Pig BBQ, and I must say, the experience was fantastic. The food was great, living up to the high expectations set by other reviewers. The baked beans were absolutely delicious, with a perfect balance of sweetness and smokiness. The mac and cheese, however, was the real star of the meal. If you like your meat drenched in grease, covered in fat, and nuked in the microwave, then this is the restaurant for you ! Every order is made, potentially with days old meat, for your enjoyment. They will start off by chopping the meat, making sure to leave most, if not all of the fat. Then, it is doused it in a hefty serving of the secret sauce (water and grease) to cover up how dry it is! The sides were also nothing to brag about. The fries that two of us got were cold when served. The portions were very large and you did get plenty of food. Overall, I think I'll look for other options for Barbq when in this area.

It is small and I hear occasionally they run out. I'm from Texas and I love the barbecue here at Buckys in Greenville SC. Texan approved the sweet potato crunch is delicious and Mac and cheese is yummy too! Inside they have a few tables but I grabbed my plate to go. If your in the area please give this place a try.
