Steak Monday $15!
Reiley H.

Steak Mondays are a deal you can't pass up here. For $15 you get a big ol' steak and a baked potato that you get to load up with butter, cheese and sour cream. The steak is smoked to perfection, I asked for medium rare and it was perfect. It was also seasoned very well.

I have to start by saying I'm a bit bias. This is like my neighborhood hangout and when you get to know the crew working there you know they are there to serve and make sure you have an enjoyable time. Thron my unbiased opinion, they have some remodeling that can be done without messing with the neighborhood ambiance. I love that you can play music you like on the jukebox through an app on your phone and if you'd like to play darts, pool, or corn hole it's there for you. The bar has enough TVs spread around that you can catch any game or laugh at Chive TV. Best of all is there steak night on Mondays! A deal with a loaded potato you can't pass up!

As local residents who were eager to finally visit, our experience was disappointing, revealing a…read morenumber of issues that detract from the establishment's potential. Deficiencies in Service and First Impressions The initial experience upon arrival immediately set a negative tone. There was no staff presence at the door, and no clear, written signage indicating the proper protocol for seating--whether to wait, check in, or simply seat oneself. This lack of guidance forces guests into an awkward uncertainty, which is unacceptable for any hospitality business. After finding our own way to the covered patio, we observed servers casually chatting amongst themselves while intermittently looking in our direction. A more professional approach would involve staff being observant and quickly moving to acknowledge and seat new arrivals. When a server finally approached our table, the interaction was severely lacking in basic professional etiquette: * No greeting was offered. * No menus (drink or food) were provided. * The only opening line was an abrupt inquiry: "Are you ready to order?" These omissions suggest a fundamental lack of staff training in business etiquette and basic customer service procedures. A proper initial interaction should involve a warm welcome, an introduction of the server, and the immediate presentation of menus. Operational and Marketing Misalignment A major deficiency is the misalignment between the bar's online presence and its current operational reality. The website prominently states, "DRINK. EAT. VISIT.," creating an expectation that a food menu is available. We were informed by the server that the cook had quit and no food items were available. This is a critical failure in both operations and marketing transparency. The website must be immediately updated to reflect the current operating posture and manage customer expectations. The suggested workaround--ordering food from Fralo's Pizza next door--while a temporary solution, begs the question of why a patron wouldn't just choose to go to Fralo's directly. This situation undermines bar301's identity as a full-service establishment. Limited Offerings and Infrastructure Issues Further disappointment arose regarding the beverage service. Upon ordering frozen margaritas, we were informed that the bar does not prepare frozen margaritas. For an establishment specializing in drinks, a common and popular request like a frozen margarita should either be available or clearly noted as unavailable before ordering, especially given the lack of a drink menu. Beyond service, the physical space itself presents an issue. The location appeared unappealing and partially rundown. While the primary product is the experience, the ambiance is a critical component. Management needs to make a tangible effort to improve the aesthetic appeal and overall maintenance of the space to create a more inviting and lasting impression. Conclusion and Recommendations Our visit was cut short, as the cumulative impact of these deficiencies led us to seek an alternative venue (Silo Oyster Bar) where we anticipated a more professional and competent service standard. To improve customer experience and ensure long-term viability, bar301 management must immediately implement the following: * Mandatory Staff Training: Institute comprehensive training on basic business etiquette, professional greeting protocols, menu presentation, and proper table service. * Operational Transparency: Immediately update the website and any external marketing materials to accurately reflect the current food service status. * Front-of-House Management: Establish a clear and well-communicated seating protocol, including a dedicated host or signage for customer guidance upon entry. * Facility Upgrades: Invest in improving the appeal and maintenance of the space to align the physical environment with the perceived quality of a San Antonio destination. Addressing these critical points will be essential to make a better and lasting impression on both local and visiting customers.

When we got to the first landing area, we saw the sign and decided we had to go in and check it out. There is a bar when you first walk in then another bar to the left. We knew the security guard that was working and checking IDs so we were excited to say hi to him. The bar was super busy and all the booths were taken, but the bartenders took our order and by the time the drinks were made, two people were leaving and gave us their spots. We only went in for a nightcap after a dinner date so I'm unsure if they have food/ bar snacks or anything. We'd definitely go back if we're ever in the area.

Ahhh yes, the Anchor Bar. The self proclaimed home of the Buffalo wing…read more That is a bold statement. Would it hold up in court? Yes. The court rests. Came in with a couple of coworkers and my best mate, Tommy Tough Knuckles. If you are going to put a place like this on trial, you bring witnesses. The beer: Bud Light on tap was phenomenal. Cold, clean, exactly what you want when wings are involved. Most of the table went with micheladas, which felt like the right move at the time and honestly looked fantastic. If you are in a wings bar that knows what it is doing, you trust the michelada crowd. The appetizer: First timers get treated right here. Our server brought out the pizza roll appetizer on the house, which is essentially an egg roll stuffed with pizza goodness. Crunchy shell, molten cheese center, zero notes. A dangerous starter in the best way possible. Ten out of ten. The wings: Twenty traditional wings. Fifteen Buffalo hot, five lemon pepper. Let's be honest. When Buffalo hot comes out in Buffalo, expectations are sky high. I would not have minded a touch more heat, but the flavor absolutely carried the day. These were balanced, buttery, and deeply satisfying wings that remind you why this style became the standard. The lemon pepper deserves special praise. Too many places drown these wings in seasoning until it feels like a science experiment. Not here. Clean, even coverage, bright without overpowering the chicken. Simple, confident, executed properly. Overall wing verdict. Ten out of ten. This place knows exactly who it is. No gimmicks, no reinvention, just history backed up by execution. You come here for wings, beer, and the feeling that you are sitting inside something that actually matters. Would I come back? Absolutely. Would I argue with anyone who calls this the home of the Buffalo wing? Not a chance.
