Friends took me here for my birthday and we had reservations at another place, but they "lost" them? All of us have been here before so we decided why not, and see what happens. The place was incredibly busy, we had about a 20 minute wait but it was worth it! Our server Robert was top notch. Professional and cordial. He Immediately came over with glasses of water, garlic bread, cheese and olive tapas, a house salad, and napkins. Tried the broiled fisherman's combo: shrimp, scallops, fish fillet, mussels, stuffed clams, lobster tail, and a side, I opted for linguini with garlic aioli. Everything was cooked very well and the presentation amazing and beautiful. Now here's something you don't see every day; an actual stuffed clam where the clam is still partially attached to the shell! None of that surimi crap! Finished the meal with a double espresso, shared a tartufo and cheese cake. I don't know if the digestif was complementary, but it was a nice touch. I don't know how the kitchen keeps up with the orders. The waitstaff must put a few miles on their feet a day and a cardio workout carrying the trays overflowing with food. Amazing! Everything in the restaurant is kept neat, clean, and organized. The music is not overwhelming. You can hear each other at the table. When the weather is a little nicer, they have beautiful outdoor seating with views of Long Island sound. It is very romantic, when the sun is setting, you can imagine yourself being somewhere exotic and far away. As the song goes; "Sometimes you don't know what you got till it's gone."

At 6:30, it wasn't busy, probably because there was a snowstorm the night before? We'd ordered The Seafood broil and a side of New England Clam Chowder. Yes, they brought out a (very generic) salad for the table, garlic bread (good - best part of what was served, honestly), and a (mediocre) 'antipasto'. The Clam Chowder comes, its tepid and so thick that the spoon is standing up in the bowl. Tasted it ("Has this been sitting since yesterday?"), and hard pass. Sent it back. They apologized, came back in 7 minutes with replacement bowls "we made it fresh". In seven minutes? It was warmer and thinner, but the damage was already done to my palate and phyche. "No thank you" *not even for free Of course, the plates come as that soup arrives - there's no room on the table, anyway. The main course was as disappointing as everything else: If you like alot of seasoning, a ton of breadcrumbs and grease - by all means, order that seafood broil! The two and a half inch lobster tail was the highlight, the shrimp wasn't bad - but the scallops, clams and all the rest were absolutely smothered in breadcrumbs, old bay and grease. We were looking for a replacement for (the now closed) Artie's. This ain't it. I'll spend the time and money to drive to Jordan's Lobster Farm in Island Park when I want quality seafood, I guess. I wish I'd taken photos to accompany this review, but I kept trying to salvage the evening and enjoy the company of friends I hadn't seen in awhile. Overrated diner with valet parking. Do better.

I go all out when I come here becuase it's fast seafood at it's best, steamed, raw or fried. You order at the counter for things you want, so plan your order with friends so you can get what you want all at once. Send one to get the fried's, one to get the steamed, raw, etc. It looks like any seasonal shack on the eastern seaboard, but just a tad busier and a tad nicer. Service is good becuase it's far enough away from the NYC grind that people aint tryna bring that vibe. They're trying to have a different experience. It's got great views. Cash only of course. Seating is cafeteria style. I usually have to go for a walk afterwards to help digest everything. Prices are high if you indulge or come with your whole family, but it's kinda in line if your tryna splurge and go big. My usual order is steamed snow crab legs, fried calamari, fried clam strips, steamed cherry's and little necks (or raw if it's daytime or late summer) and a steamed whole snapper if I'm with more than 1 person. It's a feast, but worth a gout attack. It's fresh seafood that's well prepared and simple. You can't go wrong on the cocktail sauces, butter, lemon on most items.

My friend says he and his wife come here all the time and get the same thing. I brought someone here and we liked it very much and at $38, it's a good value. We walked in the nautically themed Crab Shanty and were seated quickly. Even though the Lobster Special had disappeared from the official menu, I understand it was always possible to order it and it was inevitable they had to bring it back out on the official menu. It comes first with garlic bread that you will devour. Next you have the choice of a salad or clam chowder and that clam chowder hits with the garlic bread. Then comes the main event with the whole lobster split lengthwise, two baked clams and a broiled or steamed shrimp. On the side you can choose fries, rice pilaf or baked potato. The fries were good, the clams and shrimp better and the lobster was great. The lobster is buttered and seasoned well. These are not jumbo lobster, but adequate for the price point. No one goes home hungry and the Crab Shanty goes easy on the wallet so you can return anytime. Service is good too. Four stars!

My sister went all in with the stuffed lobster loaded with clams and shrimp, plus a baked potato and New England clam chowder. I had the Mediterranean Baltimore-style crabs in garlic sauce with clam chowder and broccoli--absolutely . If you love whole crabs like I do, this is the spot. The drinks? Top tier. My sister had a Bloody Mary and Hennessy coladas, and I had an 1800 margarita--bartender definitely knows what they're doing! Only downside was the wait--about 45 minutes--but it was restaurant week on City Island, so expected. Honestly though, the "deal" wasn't much (just a free virgin piña colada or soft drink), so don't go expecting big specials. Overall, still my go-to every time. Great vibes, great food, and always worth it. I'll definitely be back!

The garlic bread was absolutely divine--each piece bursting with the aroma of fresh garlic and infused with a silky finish of premium olive oil. It's the kind of bread that sets the perfect tone for the meal to come. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the stuffed flounder. This beautifully prepared fillet showcased the chef's skill, generously filled with succulent crab meat that complemented the delicate, flaky fish perfectly. Every bite was a harmonious blend of flavors that melted on the palate. Accompanying the flounder was a baked potato that deserves its own praise. Tender, smooth, and perfectly seasoned, it had a wonderful buttery texture that paired beautifully with the main course. I also indulged in the fried shrimp, which arrived golden and crispy. The accompanying sauce elevated the dish to another level entirely--perfectly balanced and expertly crafted to enhance rather than overpower the natural sweetness of the shrimp. The french fries were equally impressive: crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. JP's has earned a loyal customer in me. Every element of this meal demonstrated care, quality, and culinary expertise. Highly recommended for anyone seeking exceptional seafood on City Island. The absolutely INSANE prices!!!! My guy and I were handed menus that were written over in pen with the most ridiculous prices ever!!!!! no words needed. We looked at each other and got up and left. If they are going out of business, they need to just throw the towel in, because overcharging people, not having professional waitstaff on hand, and the mystery of the quiet kitchen (which happened to be in the middle of the place and semi-open) was effing weird. We drove a few blocks down to another establishment and looked at the prices and knew that we were not losing our minds at JP's.
