Found this pub on Yelp It is a lovely spot on the lake, with a small marina And float plane service. It's a very cool place. The patio is not dog friendly but they have tie up cleats on the deck. The menu, food, and service were great. I would not finish the Havana sandwich, so tasty. My companion had a bunless (lettuce wrapped) mushroom burger, which was also reported as excellent. I'm told the food and service really varies, depending on who is working... but I'm glad we took the chance, because it was really enjoyable! I love being able to eat on the water and watch people bring their boats in and out. That's definitely the biggest appeal. But I will say, the inside dining area looks really great too... for days when it's too cold to sit outside. We visited in early August and it was really the perfect time for dinner on the patio. We both had pasta dishes, which were good enough but not great. Drinks were unique and tasty. We'll definitely go back for the view! and they have some appetizers that look pretty damn good! read more

We were in town for a friend's wedding and were flying out via Harbour Air so we had lunch while we waited for our flight. We were very happy with our decision to stop here! The service was very attentive and welcoming, our server even went above and beyond and found me a can of Coca Cola when they were out of the fountain soda. We ordered the jalapeño popcorn shrimp, the fish and chips and the shingle mill burger. The popcorn shrimp were delicious! Lightly battered, well seasoned, perfectly cooked. The aioli it was paired with was a perfect complement. The fish and chips were really good too, both the fish and the cole slaw tasted really fresh. The burger was exactly as expected. I'm surprised seeing the mixed reviews on Yelp but am grateful we had such a positive visit and would definitely return next time I'm in town! read more

Beautiful views of the harbour and boats as well as a local favourite, Shinglemill Pub has everything you need! Plenty of food and drink options and excellent service! We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share as well as mains. We got the onion rings (Hand cut, cornmeal battered onion rings, tossed in herb butter & parmesan, served with truffle aioli) and the crispy fried cauliflower (Cauliflower fried in a light batter, tossed with parmesan, chili & preserved lemon aioli). Both were excellent, not greasy, and easy to share. The dips absolutely make these dish! I also got the Heirloom tomato & fior de latte mozzarella salad (Local heirloom tomatoes, creamy fior de latte mozzarella, zucchini ribbons, baby kale & red onions drizzled with an olive oil & balsamic vinaigrette). My wife and I had lunch here today. We brought our dog with us and the pub has a couple of tables on their patio dedicated to dog owners! Our table had a gr at view of Powell Lake and we could watch the boats coming and going on the boat launch right next to the patio. Service was great, food was very good, and they have a large menu so LOTS of options. Pub was very clean, free parking, clean washrooms. We will be back for sure! read more

The Shinglemill had a major renovation a few years ago and is really nice. Lots of wood, but an airy west coast feel right on the water of Powell Lake. Very nice aesthetic. The menu had an overhaul too and has been pretty good, except for today. I ordered a Bellini to drink, the potato chips and aioli as an appetizer, then the fish & chips as my entree. I'm used to Bellinis being a frozen peach slush with a float of sangria on top served in a wide mouth, stemmed glass. This had no float, peach slush in a mason jar style glass. It was okay, the one note flavour and mediocre presentation left me disappointed. As for the food, I was equally disappointed. Both the happy and entree arrived at the same time. The house fried potato chips were unseasoned, no salt and the aioli was broken. By the time I ate the fish, it had sat too long and was soggy and lukewarm. The fries were also soggy and lukewarm. The server was fine, no complaints. Overall disappointed. Please make sure to season the food, ensure sauces and dips aren't broken, and if someone orders an appetizer then entree that they don't come out together. It's gonna be a long while before I return. I don't like wasting my time and money on an experience that was so underwhelming. read more

I ordered a Southwest Salad. Such a disappointment! The baby greens were on the edge of their expiry with dark patches on the leaf edges. There was literally only a teaspoon of salsa and sour cream and maybe a desert spoon of black beans and sweetcorn. Honestly the whole contents of the tortilla shell bowl looked kind of sad. I know everything is expensive now but really? $23 for this sad excuse for a salad? Will not be returning. read more

Arrived 2 hours before closing and saw both waitresses available to seat us. waited at the door for a long time while waitress was chatting with already served customers until the bartender felt awkward and told us to sit anywhere. once seated we were ingnored by both waitresses as they wiped down tables at a leisurely pace and occasionally served newly arriving customers. we waited for so long that the bartender ended up having to take our drink and food orders, and served everything to us while apologizing for the service. we waited an hour for our food while watching others around us get served. seemed as though the waitresses wanted to close early. the only time that one of the waitresses served us was to take the bill, and they then made a backhanded remark about the amount on the tip. very angry at the service. read more

I came here for dinner and have been here many times in the past, but it has only gotten worse. We made a reservation as it was a special occasion and when we arrived we were not even looked at and told to seat ourselves. I told them we had a reservation, the waitress didn't check a book or anything and just said "okay well sit wherever". The food came slow, 45 minutes I'd say and it wasn't very busy, maybe 5 tables occupied. The lobster ravioli I had was actually great, but the calamari fell apart, and the burger was over cooked. We ordered dessert, two cheesecakes. We waited about 20 minutes for dessert after ordering, and our waitress came up and said something like "just to let you know, the desserts are going to be awhile. Earlier people left because it took too long. We have a new cook and he's not the best". Who says that to their customers????? We did wait for the desserts, 40 mins in total, and when they came it was absolutely disgusting. They were rock solid, you could barely put your fork into them, and the one and only bite I took was solid ice. It was unbelievable. And for $8 a piece. We took them to go so we could heat them at home, but it is clearly not made in house, likely purchased at a local grocery store (where I sometimes buy the same cheesecake). Do NOT come here unless it is for the view and drinks. The food is overpriced, the cook is terrible and the over all value is not there. Costa Del Sol, Coastal Cookery and Modern Peasant are much better alternatives. read more

Another favorite whenever I visit Powell River. I have yet to eat in the Bistro, so my review is based entirely off the pub. The pub has a great view of Powell Lake and the maria. During the summer, the patio is open and you can enjoy the views over dinner and drinks. The pub has a cozy feeling with warm reds on the walls, a wood burning stove used in the winters, and current top music playing in the background. This place gets packed during big games. Service can tend to be a little slow during peak times, but the food more than makes up for it. The bacon wrapped scallops for a starter are excellent! The bacon is properly crisped while the scallops are never overcooked. I highly recommend the Heart Smart Halibut, a great and healthier alternative to fish and chips, as well as the Pan seared Pork Medallions. The prices are very reasonable, about $20 per person. Great food with a great view... what more could you ask for? read more

Nicer place in town. Wine in box. Daily specials. We came in around 2pm and I guess it was shift change because yhere was only one server nand suddenly she was slammed with 6 maybe 7 tables. I ended up getting a chicken club. I think. We ate here last week. I did get a pickture of the dessert, it was called a Bearstooth. The vieww was the best part of the visit. read more

So where is my review I see you have taken it down. Are you really allowed to do this? The bar none worst food I have ever been forced to pay for. Beautiful view maybe good for a drink and the atmosphere unless anyone tries to eat here as you would have to listen to them wretching at trying to eat garbage. In future do not take down my reviews. I really want to love this place and I keep making my other half go with me. I look like a dummy now for four separate horrible experiences. Two times we grabbed food to eat out on the boat, get mid lake and it's not what we ordered. Last time my garlic bread was completely black not exaggerating. Personally I feel that it should not have made it to my table but it did after an hour and a half. And finally tonight was given the wrong meal, Pomodoro instead of primavera and my bf ate it because I insisted they must just be out of broccolini and other vegetables that go with it. Finish it and realize there are two on the menu. But a little weird to get macaroni in the rigatoni. The server stated that there was a wedding the night prior with macaroni..... which isn't really ok. The last two times the chef had come out on the deck and wiped his nose down his arm and went back in to cook. But I was given a $4 discount for the wrong meal I tried. As a regular at many other restaurants in town I don't complain hardly ever but I'm pretty disappointed. read more

Great atmosphere and view of Powell Lake. The food is generally consistent and we usually order the Chicken Taco Salad. Closing time seems to be fluctuating lately with the kitchen closing down early. Most of the Staff are great but there are a few duds that either under wait or start stacking chairs early making you feel like they want you to get the heck out and it's only 9:30 on a Friday night. I'm still giving it a high rating due to the really good waitresses that make up for the odd bad one. read more

Didn't get a chance to actually eat here. We were a party of four that arrived around 7 pm( no reservations after 6) a very nice lady greeted us and we asked if we could be seated outside, she said that she would check and came back promptly and let us know there was a table free but had to be cleaned. We thanked her, then another employee came over and said absolutely no way, there was too many people out there and the only place they would sit us was in the pit. ( doesn't sound very appealing does it, maybe for Hunger Games, but not for a nice meal out. First hostess looked embarrassed. I asked if we could wait for a patio seat, and was told by the second hostess everyone out there has not even been served yet. (approximately 30 tables) so not very likely and our only option was the pit. We left. We were dressed nice, didn't smell, it was horrible. Ended up at Coastal Eatery where there also wasnt a table available but they took my number and we had a lovely walk around for 30 minutes till our table was ready. I will never go back to the place that made us feel so unwelcome. HORRIBLE . Felt so sad for the first hostess who really wanted to be anywhere else read more

Likely the best spot in Powell River for a burger views are unsurpassed, beer is brewed in town and cold, the patio is wonderful, no fault of the restaurant is the wasps: Be prepared to share with them they know a good thing when they see it, I highly recommend this place. read more

This is a great place to go to cure that Camping Hangover. The view of the Lake is pretty nice and I especially like it in November (when it's quiet). The food is pretty standard (Burger and Fries for me), but the server takes time out of her day to get to know you. Great Place ! Would go back again. Last time I checked, No Free WiFi :( read more

Worst meal we have had. Fish and chips, fish was over cooked and greasy. The fries were soggy and a sitting in a layer of grease. The Cobb salad was not like the photo on their FB page. Went here for lunch while visiting the Sunshine Coast. I had the cream of asparagus soup and cheesy toast. The soup was leftover asparagus pureed with a dash of cream and a lot of curry powder. There was no mention of Curry before I ordered it. Curry was all you could taste. They had pureed the entire asparagus stalk, even the tough ends so the texture of the soup was tough and fibrous. I asked the waitress if it was indeed asparagus soup and she said yes. Couldn't taste asparagus at all. She very politely offered to replace it with Chowder. The Chowder was good. The cheesy toast was simply toast with some sort of orange butter spread on it. I'm not sure where the cheese was supposed to be. My husband had a Reuben sandwich with onion rings. The onion rings were good but the reuben was disappointing. The best thing about this restaurant was how the waitress handled everything. read more

Spectacular view, decent food, and a lovely and welcoming staff.

Great bistro on the lake in Powell River, a place with a welcoming attitude and spectacular service. With all of the comforting, filling hot food offered in this bistro, it only makes sense that the staff and surroundings be welcoming, pleasant and friendly as well. The location of this eatery is spectacular, giving a beautiful view and a secondary parking option, should one decide to sail to the location. Being in British Columbia, and on a lake, it makes a certain amount of sense that they mainly base the menu around fish, but by no means does that mean the rest of the selection is anything less than excellent. Their pasta has always been among my favourites, and the burgers never disappoint. At a fairly reasonable price, these options are all magnificent, as are the soups and salads available. On another note, the service is always quick and friendly, especially friendly to those that frequent this particular establishment. The waitstaff all make a connection with regulars, and they're made all the more comfortable and friendly by the presence of so much as one familiar face in the restaurant. I highly, highly reccomend this bistro as a destination while dining in Powell River, because at the prices offered, you'll find nowhere as friendly and pleasant with such delicious food until you're across the Atlantic read more
