Yeah maybe it is starting to show a little age in the furniture, and the tables, but our experience earlier today was excellent. We had great service, quick friendly and informative. Our server was young, but you could tell she knew her stuff. She kept our water glasses full along with all the other guests. The menu is pretty vast, without being too big. Plenty to choose from with a great sounding special and soup of the day. There really is something to please everyone. Our drinks were cold, and to food we ordered was great. The lovely K got the clam chowder and a starter Caesar salad. Both were very good with the starter salad being larger than most large salads we get. I had the Mediterranean falafel and the soup of the day which was split pea with ham. Both were excellent. The Stella I ordered was a full pint, not something I see every day, they are typically 500 mls. All in all we thought it was outstanding, and will most definitely be back! read more

We stopped by the Timbre bar at the golf course for happy hour and were thoroughly impressed! The nachos were a standout - not only were they delicious, but the generous portion size and affordable price made them an unbeatable value. We grabbed a seat by the window on a cloudy day, but still enjoyed a lovely view. Really, though, anywhere you sit is great - the cozy decor makes every spot feel welcoming and comfortable. read more

"We HAVE to go to Crown Isle for brunch. They have the best brunch anywhere", that's what my girlfriend said before our meal...afterward not so much. We found out later that the chef has changed and the menu is a sad shell of its former glory. The view of the golf course from the patio is quite nice, but the food unfortunately did not live up to expectations. The bennys were passable but not what I would have expected from a higher end golf and country club, especially considering the price. Now I'm no expert but I have a hard time believing that the hollandaise sauce had been made from scratch due to its overly bright yellow colour, and the hashbrowns appeared to have been sitting under a heat lamp for some time. The service was friendly enough but a flooded out kitchen due to an exploding dishwasher pipe earlier in the day had the staff scrambling around like mad. Our server was quite apologetic and explained the situation to us. Since we weren't in any great hurry to get out of the place we didn't mind the little extra wait for our bill. It was a decent enough meal but now that we know the brunch is no longer the best in Courtenay, we'll probably take a pass on a second visit next time we visit the area. read more

A great way to unwind and dine al fresco after a round of golf . . . . The Silverado Steakhouse restaurant and The Timber Room pub now have the same menu. So we choose the Silverado outdoor deck because it was higher up, with a better view of the mountains and 18th hole. The crab and smoked salmon cakes were two nice chubby medallions, crispy outside, tasty inside with more salmon than crab. Accompanied by pesto aioli and a small slaw. My partner really enjoyed the selection of dim sum as a starter and said it tasted like a "real" Chinese (he's part Chinese). Evidently they are handmade by a Chinese lady in nearby Royston. The peanut dipping sauce was not authentic but he and I agreed it was a nice sweet/salty taste to the dim sum. My partner then enjoyed the Prime Rib special entree, rare, with mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, gravy and hot horseradish. Said it was excellent. My Madras Curry Rice Bowl wasn't so . . . Basmati rice, with pre-cooked, pre-sliced chicken breast (a la Sysco or Maple Leaf) with no taste and rubbery texture. A lot of Madras sauce poured over - no veg - some small naan bread points, and a small rolled papadum with cold mango chutney inside. It was adequate, but not gourmet like the rest of the food. Only the sauce was good. Note cider drinkers: they only have canned Okanagan Brand cider, not Grower's or Merridale. Bummer. The service was excellent, and with the relaxing beautiful view, it comes back to being 3,5 to 4 star, only the curry rice bowl didn't live up to expectations. read more

So much potential (PS: the last place I said thst about went bankrupt)! The location, check. The view, check! The staff, check! The drinks, oopps..don't advertise an Old Fashion and serve it with chipped ice. The food, limited menu and frozen fries earns you an "X" in my books. Such a shame that the most promising location in the Comox Valley is underachieving. read more

A snowy, stormy Friday night so we headed to the Timber Room pub for an early evening dinner and sat down to warm up near the fireplace. Unfortunately the fireplace wasn't on and when we inquired why we were told by the waitress that "it hadn't worked for months; that they had it on this morning but it only worked for an hour". The food was adequate, beef dip, salmon burger and schnitzel special, and the waitress was good. One washroom urinal was "out of order". For such a beautiful resort, we are still wondering why such basic maintenance issues aren't being looked after. read more

I've eaten here a few times. The prime rib is excellent!! But had to give it a 1 star since I got food poisoning the last time I ate here. I ordered the chicken sandwich with fries and the Brie cheese as an appetizer. Was in bed the entire day after with non stop v***ting! read more

We had high expectations for the Crown Isle Golf Club's lounge/restaurant which claims itself to be a "gastro-pub". Nice location with a great view overlooking the golf course and the nearby mountains in the distance. The room itself is decently decorated in addition to the numerous TVs airing golf. The sign at the front said "Seat Yourself", so we chose a table near the window that had no cutlery or menus on it. After sitting for roughly 5 mins with no one coming by, we grabbed a couple menus off of the neighbouring table. Another 10 mins later and someone finally stopped by to take our drink order. Initial impression of the service was poor, but perhaps we came during the wait staff's break. Food ordered was a margherita flatbread and side caesar salad for myself with my wife having the 2 piece fish n chips. The flatbread was simple and the crust appears to be prepackaged ... definitely not made fresh. The crust was also not very crispy. My wife's fish n chips were small (more like 1.5 pieces of fish vs. the 2 expected) but well cooked ... the fries on the other hand were undercooked, pale, and a bit soggy. Mains were very unsatisfying, given the expectations and prices. Some recommendations for Crown Isle. Focus more on fresh ingredients and offerings that are in-season. The Comox Valley has lots of fresh food alternatives available. Also, offering some local beer options would have been nice ... there are 3 craft breweries in the Valley and many more around the Island that this shouldn't be too difficult. Went to Courtenay/Comox on business, and found myself having a light lunch at Crown Isle's clubhouse restaurant. A lovely table, in the window, with vistas over the golf course and towards the mountains behind Cumberland. The salad lunch that I ordered was delicious...not always the case, but this one was something that one would order again and again, on other visits. A very appealing & up market environment, excellent service, a welcoming attitude...I look forward to dinner here, in the future...it's a resort, too, so maybe there's a weekend in my future? Our relatives, who are locals, said this place could be hit or miss, so we took a chance and luckily it was a hit night! Nice pub food, among our party we had the chowder, the Cesar salad (which was especially good) gyoza, fish tacos, ribs, veggie burger, quiche, and the sirloin dip sandwich and all were delicious. Great fries too. Good local beers and two lovely wines, a Spanish Rioja Tempranillo and a BC Pinot Grigio for reasonable prices. It was a gorgeous summer evening, we sat outside and the view of the glacier was spectacular. The service was a little slow at times, but they were super friendly and we weren't in a hurry. read more

Went to Timber Room today at my son's request. I have normally enjoyed the food and atmosphere but today was quite possibly the worst food and service we have had as a family as long as I can remember. What was even more annoying was there was no evident excuse for questionable service, it was Sunday lunch, they weren't busy. Maybe the empty tables is a reflection of a change we weren't aware of. So 1 out of 4 orders correct, each order came out 5 to 10 minutes apart, last I checked we were there to have a meal together. Again I reflected on the order...nope not a perplexing one, 3 burgers and 1 Caesar salad with prawns but nope...yard sale. We actually wanted refills on our drinks but I guess that was too much to ask. Add to that a bill that was $70 plus... nope... go somewhere else. Shittiest meal and service I can remember. read more
