I ordered a bowl of seafood chowder for $19. It can with a tiny piece of bread and the broth was tasteless and the consistency of water! There was more vegetables in it than seafood! I was extremely disappointed. My buddy had a halibut burger and fries, I wish I had ordered that! Lunch cost me $54, I guess you live and learn. I was told it was under new management. I will still come back at least one more time but I won't order the chowder! read more

Stopped in on a Saturday evening. Placed was packed because they have local live music Saturdays. Met a really nice couple who let us share their larger 4 person table since there were no other seats. We ordered three appetizers (Breaded Wings, Coconut Shrimp and Breaded Oysters. Wings/and Shrimp 5/5, not a huge Oyster fan and breaded doesn't help. Nothing wrong with them, fresh and local just not my cup of tea. read more

This is a great historic right beside 19A, the scenic highway. I've only visited once in the winter and it was covered in snow so I can't comment on the outside areas. The inside was quaint and cozy. It was clean and decorated with neat historical photos. Our server was fabulous, the perfect amount of friendly and helpful with great energy. The food was high quality pub food, I had the oyster burger..,, everything about it was great; fresh and delicious bun, crispy and tasty oysters, fresh lettuces. My daughter had the chicken fingers and said they were great, fresh and delicious. If in the area, I would definitely stop here again for a casual meal with great service. read more

Good selection of Fanny Bay oyster dishes. Service fast and friendly, casual pub atmosphere, with on outside deck where you can see the bay. Crowd was a mix of locals, tourists and bikers. Five stars for location. Three stars for ambiance and that's a stretch although the outside area looked pretty good. The pub furnishings are tired. Three stars for service which was delivered reluctantly. But the 2 stars is for the food. Grilled oysters had the breadcrumbs under the cheese which gave a pasty taste to the fresh oyster, which was a shame. Pizza was lack lustre, thick crust, and meh but edible. The chowder was ok. The fish and chips was not good. Batter was gluey under the crisp dark exterior which was very oily. The fish itself when taken out of the batter tasted more like sole than cod but that could've been because it was sliced very thin. Not sure but definitely wouldn't order. For the prices the fish and chips at a pub should be able to stand alone. The side salad was great with fresh tomato and cucumber on spring mix, best part of the meal. We didn't stay for desert. As we were leaving we saw a sign that it's for sale? Not sure if it's an old sign but maybe that's what's going on? read more

We walked in as their first customers after Fanny Bay Seafood Shop recommended this spot. We ordered the oyster sample platter with 2 of each kind on the menu at $3/oyster. My bf loved the ones with tequila dressing and I'm a fan of fried oysters (it was big and juicy). We also forgot to take a pic of their clam chowder, what a shame!! Thing we regretted most is that we only had the Cup size. It was sooo amazing! Even the garlic breads on side was on point (we did ask for more breads). We went back to our hotel in Parksville and was so close to come back the next day to have the chowder again. I'd love to see more ppl come and support this inn as service and food was truly fantastic! read more

The dining out behind the restaurant is great for summer. The calamari was well prepared. The drinks were reasonably priced. However, I expected a lot more from their oysters. They tasted somewhat creamy and not what I had expected given their reputation. I've been a fairly ardent oyster connoisseur and you can find better ones out there. Perhaps if you pick up their oysters fresh from where they sort them, they'd be better. read more

My local friends took me down to the Fanny Bay Inn (FBI) for supper. Good menu options, replete with raw and cooked oysters made famous here at Fanny Bay. I ordered the breaded oysters. I received five enormous Fanny Bay oysters cooked just right. The proprietor and staff are friendly and made our group very welcome. Nice old school pub interior. 60s & 70s music in the background at a very appropriate level for conversation. There are a couple of TVs but thankfully muted as not to be distracting. A nice place to come for a meal and comfortable surroundings. read more

I've been coming here off and on for decades, when I'm in the area. A divey roadhouse-style locals bar with world class raw oysters and beer? I'm in! The beer list hasn't changed despite the craft beer movement, so you won't find any IPAs to go with your oysters. But Hermann's Dark or a Spring Pale Ale will suffice when you have oysters as fresh as these for local prices! If you want fancy, though, keep driving. read more

The oysters were fresh and tasty. the three of us had a cup of FBI creamy seafood chowder. This chowder was scrumptious. We are still talking about the chowder. The calamari were delightful. Great food. Great oysters. I hear it had a 'reputation' in the past, but it's gentrification seems to have gone well. Menu is excellent, service is always with a smile, and the huge garden is great to relax and enjoy the west coast. The biggest oysters I've ever seen! Fanny Bay is famous for their oysters. The FBI is about the freshest you will ever get as the processing operation is just meters away. It's pub fare and it well done. Excellent portions, and they will adjust anything to your liking. How food should be served. If your not sure about oysters, then I would suggest the seafood chowder. It's actually a stew... it is the best chowder I have ever had. A cup was filling! A bowl would do as a meal for most people! read more

It has been sometime since I was at the FBI. It was always a nice Pub but somewhat dark and dated. Well the wife and I after a visit with friends in Port Alberni decided to stop for a late lunch enroute home to Campbell River. Well the Pub is under new management and they have spruced things up. New rear windows letting in a lot of light , a rear yard with at least a dozen tables . Good selection of beer and was advised to try a Dominion Dark Lager rather than a Guinness. It was very good along with a fantastic order of Nacho's . They pride themselves on good food and also "Consistancy" in what they turn out. They have a good business Model and will do very well as "Word of Mouth" is so important. And I have told numerous friends already and will be back before the end of June. Ken read more

Well if you are cruising up the coastal route going north on Vancouver Island, stop in for a beer and some oysters at The Fanny Bay Inn. The oyster shooters required a second round, these tiny jewels in their shot glass with a dash of Clamato Juice on them where wonderful, as they say you can see their supply by looking east at low tide. Well, we went out for nice ride on our motorcycles and decided to stop in at the Fanny Bay Pub. My wife has fond memories of this place but I gotta say, they missed the mark for us today. The beer wasn't nearly as cold as it should be from the tap but the thing we can't get past was the appy we ordered....their garlic ribs. We were looking forward to them but when they brought the ribs (which, by the way, were $16.00 on the menu) consisted of 6....count them....6....ribs. And no, 2 of the six were bigger but the the rest were single bite. We brought up the notion of this puny order with our server and while he agreed, he simply stated there are 'challenging times'...or words to that affect. Nothing was offered up aside from this. As well, as we paid our bill, we again emphasized the disappointing portion given we could have split a full sized entree for another 2 bucks...and the entrees (burgers, for sure) looked awesome. He indicated he was the manager and his parents owned the place and commented he would, for sure, be bringing it up tomorrow and that they would either increase the portion size or pull them from the menu. All good...BUT...what about us?? Nothing further was offered up. I've been in the service business my entire career and this placed missed the mark....but my standards. Perhaps a repeat visit MAY yield different results but based on this experience, there simply may not be a future one. DON'T order the ribs....yummy but ridiculous portion for the price. read more

Staff came off a little crotchety at first but were good in the end. Well frequented-- I suspect they have many repeat customers. Space is a little dated but meh, who cares. The mussels were the best I have ever had. Just perfect. read more

No kids under 19 allowed!?! I get it if supper is closed to kids but in this day and age kids should be allowed in pubs for lunch at least.
