My friend and I were exploring Airforce Beach and midwalk she declared she was craving a Reuben sandwich. Starving myself I agreed that would be pretty tasty right now we were going to go to Courtenay to look for one but as we were passing the Griffin she suggested we go there. I hadn't been for a few years so agreed when she mentioned she had been with her daughter recently and it was good. Oddly the couple setting next to us were having a Reuben and it looked amazing. They suggested we split one as it was quite large. So we did that and added a side salad in addition to the fries. Good choice! The server was super friendly although she did disappear near the end for over 20 minutes and we eventually went up to the bar to pay our bill. So for the half sandwich and a soda water and a tip it was $28 if I recall correctly. The sandwich was good, as were the fries and salad and I would definitely go again. read more

The Reuben!! Done right with the daily soup on the side.(home made cream of mushroom was really dang good) Pretty good beer selection and friendly service while sitting at the bar. A little out of the way, but a good thing in my mind if you don't want a lot of noise and distractions. The ambiance is great, you know you're close to the air base and the patio is very inviting in the summer. There is a good selection of beers available and the food is good, although we usually go there just to socialize. read more

I ordered the small lasagna special. What I received was a dish with a tablespoon, of what appeared to be, lasagna, half a plate of salad and a slice of garlic bread. Needless to say, I was pissed to pay $18.00 for this meal. read more

Excellent service & food! We enjoyed a sunny spring day on the patio. We enjoyed the Reuben sandwich and Bangers & Mash. I ordered the special soup of the day, Hamburger Soup but it was on the sweet side and I didn't care for it. Service was great. read more

I had lunch today and had the $17 seafood chowder. What I received was more souplike than chowder based. Shrimp was baby shrimp, scallops were the smallest I've ever seen. Overall Campbells chunky soup chowder is a better choice and only $2.49 a can. Sometimes you get a meal that is less than one you might get at home but as had this meal while smelling the cigarette smoke from the table next to mine while on the balcony, I will simply state that I will never return. I was in shock to find a restaurant that still allows smoking next to eating customers. So many great memories here celebrating promotions, retirements, as well as postings of dear friends, however the good times can't outweigh this poor experience. that being said I must admit that my waitress was very friendly and professional. staff great, experience not so much. read more

As someone who worked there as a cook I would not recommend eating there. They freeze burger patties, they pre deep fry their fish and keep it in the walk-in fridge for days uncovered and recook it to orders. They do the same thing with breaded chicken precooking it before service. Very low quality seafood as well. There are many different ways they cut corners that result in low quality food for paying customers. read more

The Griffin Pub was recommended to us while we were waiting to catch a plane. We weren't hungry, we weren't thirsty...but, we didn't want to sit around like bumps on a log doing the thumb-twiddle thing. Nor did we want to go to a pub. But, as they say in the classics, what the hell! So we cabbed it to the Griffin. It's sort of an English community pub. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was distinctly Pom, and the beer was cold. So we ordered a hamburger. It was BLOODY FANTASTIC! It was so good (remember we weren't hungry) that we ordered a second. And that wasn't all. The chips were wonderful and the whole deal came with a bowl of seafood chowder. There is little more to say. The burgers were not cheap but not expensive, the service was good, the place was very nice and the burgers were as good as any...anywhere. read more

Went to the Griffon pub yesterday with a large group of people. About 27 of us in all. Our waitress was Cheryl and she was fantastic. She looked after us very quickly She took all our orders within about five minutes after bringing us all our drinks and when the food came out - it all came out - and everyone was fed around the same time. Everyone enjoyed their food and thought it was delicious. I had the days special which was a pork dinner - very very tasty. My husband had a burger - think it was called a 3B burger and very good. Not a drop of that was left. Lots of shnitzel was ordered by people and all claimed it was delicious. This is a great place for a small group or a large group of people. Wed is Tapas! or appetizers for less. The Griffin Pub is a one-of-a-kind place to meet your buddies, enjoy exploring new foods with your family. I'ce been a couple of times now; good service, comfortable setting, as it's next to the airport, lots of aviation photos plastered everywhere. Food is good pub style, hits the spot. Plus, take a ride out to the beach afterwards to watch the eagles and planes. read more

As usual, the food was tasty, the portions substantial and service was prompt and courteous. They have once again had to navigate their way through the Covid hurdles - this time re-opening with a tent in the parking lot. However, on this cold, blustery night patrons were few so we were safely tucked in the heated back patio. Very good fish and chips and great mushroom schnitzel washed down with stout and a glass of red wine. We are happy that the Griffin is in our 'hood. read more

A must stop in Comox! Great atmosphere, good selection of beer on tap and tasty choices on their menu. Also enjoyed the options of pool, darts and even a little dancing. Definitely will be back on our next visit to the island. read more

Kitchen makes you want to return. Staff are friendly. Excellent decor. The clubhouse is the best I've ever had. Especially when you order it on the marble rye. I've always judged a place on it's clubhouse. That is if they offer it. The Friday Prime Rib Dinner seems quite popular. The Wednesday Tapas are all 3 bucks. They are mostly fried but a great deal for variety and sharing. Open mic night (Sun), I've played it a couple times, and live music can be found on other nights. Excellent patio with lots of room to gather or chill. Free pool table on Sunday as well. read more

This pubhas had better days they were well regarded for their food fair but having been there a couple of times in the recent past just this past week and having passed on the bangers and mash which I have enjoyed on a number of occasions my friend tried it again as this was our regular meal which we enjoyed very much. My friend agreed with me that this meal had dropped in quality quite drastically as the bangers were a very low grade compared to the previous product they had provided and they raised the price not a good move. I moved on to the triple B burger which I have to say did taste good but comparatively to other products available at other outlets in the valley it was over priced for what you get. I hope things improve at this location I will be listening in the future but I know I will not be returning until I hear a much better report. read more

This pub was most disappointing. The decor is old and needs some refreshing. The menu has far too many items and the food is far below average. The one thing that is making the grade is the service. The staff do there best but with the food being so disappointing it overshadows their efforts. This place would appeal to some but I feel the place needs a real overhaul in particualr the cook and the food that is coming out of the kitchen. read more

The Griffin Pub is a long standing reliable pub near CFB Comox. The memorabilia on the wall makes you smile and want to stay. Parking is good and there is a cold beer & wine store should you require it. We met a friend there for lunch. We were all familiar with the pub from our time living in Comox when posted there with the Canadian Airforce. Our food was enjoyable. I thought $12.50 was a wee bit high for a Griffin salad that did not come with any bread or "extras" just the salad. The draft beer was also not working for those who would have enjoyed a pint. Hubby had a baron dip that came with loads of fries and dip, our friends enjoy the calamari, the prawn salad and a blt sandwich. We stayed for several hours chatting. Once our bill was brought, we were left alone - more water would have been nice. We were there more to visit and enjoy the company of our friend who was visiting from the east coast. I would return next time in Comox. They offer events in the evening -music, Texas poker, pool and darts. read more

We happened upon this place while looking for a quick bite before catching a flight out of Comox airport. The service was fantastic (we told them we were in a hurry and had our food within 1/2 an hour). The food quality was very good and the prices were very reasonable. The Sunday special (roast beef dinner for $10.00) was a huge serving and while we didn't order it we saw it served and it looked fantastic. Great staff who are very friendly and efficient.
