It was packed for a Wednesday evening. Reservations are a must. Food was excellent. The portions were great and the staff were amazing. All in all a great experience. read more

Good experience eating at the "dockside" area as the main area is reserved for adults (age 18 or above). The main course did come out a bit slow. The prices were reasonable and the service was attentive. We would be back as they close later in the evening and can accommodate later dinner times. We wanted to try Off the Hook restaurant up the street but all reservations were made. Glad we found this place. read more

Service is extremely slow. It took over one hour to get out our mains and they forgot to order starters. They comped the desert. It's a super disappointing experience and chatting with friends they have had similar experiences. The food is good but the service is super painful Based on what I experienced I would not recommend this restaurant because it seems like the restaurant management struggles with staffing appropriately. read more

When we tried to get a table at Blackfin Pub earlier in the week they were fully booked and referred us to their sister restaurant Dockside. This turned out to be by far the better option. We had a really good experience at Dockside and thought that since they were both owned by the same company that we would also have a wonderful time at Blackfin. What a disappointment our time at Blackfin turned out to be. We did manage to get a table on the patio and it was lovely looking out at the harbour. The service was decent but not as good as the service the evening that we dined at Dockside. It was very busy and our server did try her best. We ordered a bottle of wine and started our meal with a shared appetizer of brie with blackberries, peaches, ginger maple and citrus compote. It was supposed to come with Rosemary flatbread but it seemed to come with small pieces of pita bread with no rosemary. It was also the smallest piece of brie that we've ever been presented with. We probably should have sent it back but we could not find our server. There was only about l oz. or 30gr. of cheese. We each only got 2 very small bites from this $18.00 appetizer. For entrees my husband had Szechuan salmon and I had the steak and prawns. I tried a bite and it did not taste very good at all. My husband did not enjoy his salmon and thought maybe it was because of the seasoning but it definitely was not a good dish. My steak and prawns had overcooked prawns and one of the toughest steaks that I've had. It was very disappointing. When my husband commented to our server that the food was very disappointing she provided us with a complimentary dessert. We chose key lime pie and it was decent. I would not recommend Blackfin Pub. Go to Dockside instead. The view is the same, service is better and the food is significantly better. read more

We had a great friendly server to start with. Though the burger was a bit over cooked it did taste great as did the fries. The view is terrific there. read more

We tried the Lingcod and the salmon entrees. The fish was perfectly cooked and each of the sauces complemented without overpowering. The sides were also nice .... perfectly cooked vegetables and fluffy rice. The service was attentive and well paced. As mentioned, the view is spectacular! read more

Really great atmosphere. The food is very tasty. Lots of options for food. The service is also pretty good. I recommend reservations.

It was quite busy but the hostess found us a seat. Mixed drinks were good. We liked the size of the beer selections. Clam Chowder was good, Calamari was great. Fish & Chips were a good sized portion and not too greasy. It would be nice to go again and sit outside, had a great view. read more

The view is phenomenal and the seafood chowder is some of the best I've ever tasted. Just happened on this place. It was great.

The portions were very small. I felt as if they had given us a senior's portion they were so small. The small salmon steak was unremarkable with little seasoning. They could at least have had a larger portion of rice to make-up for the small salmon steak. The 1-piece fish and chips was embarrassingly small. For the price charged they should have larger portions. Most in our party went away hungry. You would be better off getting a fish sandwich at McDonalds. Don't waste your money at the Black Fin. read more

Took friends from Calgary to Black Fin for Fish and chips. We were served the worst fish and chips I'd ever had. So many local restraunts do a good job of fish and chips but we were served a 3 oz. piece of cod in 5 oz. of batter. ripped off for ~$20.00. Chips were lousy. VERY DISAPPOINTED. Won't ever be back. read more

I love the seafood chowder here. Relaxing atmosphere overlooking the Comox Marina and harbour views. Service is also outstanding

Scott our waiter was so good we went back again the next night. The food was great, expertly prepared. The wine and beer recs were spot on each time. We went to track down one of the breweries I had on the sampler plate as well. Between witty banter and dropping knowledge on the local eateries and things to do on the island, Scott really made our meals at the Black Fin special. read more

We were excited to try this place as it's got a lovely view and came recommended. We couldn't get a table because we have kids... This was noon on a Wednesday. They look like a pub/restaurant to me and yet claimed to have a liquor primary license. Ironically, we were headed there after having a drink on the patio of a brewery with the kids! If anyone would be liquor primary, it would be a brewery. If you have kids, forget about it. Maybe we're too undesirable for the establishment despite having 5 adults in the group all looking for drinks and a main? Hmmmm... read more

Ahhhhmazing!! Service was SO good! Doug was our server and bartender. Appreciate his impeccable service. Scott was AMAZING as well. So hospitable and helpful & the hostess (I think her name was Jocelyn) was lovely as well. The Blackfin Pub is in a wonderful setting overlooking the harbor - many of the tables have good views, and the setup is nice (neither crowded nor noisy) ... a pleasant atmosphere. The food was of varied quality, some quite good, some not so good, some OK but nothing special. Good: beef tenderloin, Tantalus riesling Nothing special but fine: poke entree, cheesecake, bloody Mary, bread, French fries Poor: the calamari (way too much batter) The calamari had so much batter that essentially the flavor was fried batter - the flavor of the calamari was completely overwhelmed by the fried batter (fryer taste). And then there was the service - very pleasant, but very slow - agonizingly slow. From the time we ordered an appetizer until it arrived it took 40-minutes. The server gave us a discount (recognizing the slow kitchen), but ouch. And at over $100 for two people (including a discount for slow service), it wasn't cheap. I have to say, several locals recommended the Blackfin to us, and they like it, and go back often. Perhaps it's among the better local options, but we won't be returning. read more

Blackfin - The Blackfin Pub from the wharf road - Pubs Near Me - Comox, British Columbia

This is a busy place with a waterfront view. Our food was excellent. I had the Beaumont chicken which was superb but their frozen fries weren't and neither were the underdone veggies. Husband had the ling cod which he loved. Great service. I would love to go back. read more

Stopped by Blackfin for a late lunch due to the wonderful view it has and great reviews online. They had big windows facing the water, it's best if you can grab a table next to that. They have a sunken dining area and a large bar right as you come into the pub. Unfortunately the service we got that day was disappointing. We went in quite late in the afternoon and there were only 4 tables of diners with several servers in the restaurant. I ordered the fish and chips and wanted to ask for mayonnaise after my food arrived. The waitress who served us our food left the table quickly and never came back to check how we were doing. Another waitress acknowledged me and gave me a wave, but she went on taking orders from two other tables and serving them drinks and their appetizers. Bussing between the kitchen and dining room multiple times. 15 minutes later, I had finished my meal when she finally remembered to come back to me. Overall the food was solid. The batter was not too thick and had a good crunch. It wasn't overly greasy either. The fish remained moist on the inside. read more

I moved here in may . I've been 3 times as guests insist on taking us out and their patio is fabulous. It continues to get better. Someone always gets the canuck burger which is monstrous . The fresh ground sirloin is superb , like really good. Served on a brioche bun with everything you can think of. A really great burger. Fish n chips are made with snapper and were perfect. My daughter ordered the salmon burger which hungover both sides of the bun. She raved. Gf had blackened salmon salad all 3 times. I'm not sure if they underwent changes after the covid closure but things are really good. Not your average anything. Service was great . Seasoned waitresses who know exactly how much time to spend . Try it again you won't be disappointed. read more

Fantastic night out. The cocktails were delicious, blackfin and passion fruit. The Thai mussels were absolutely to die for and I couldn't get enough of them (and I don't like mussels normally). The crab chicken meal and the fish tacos were good. A bit fishy for my taste buds but I'm used to MB walleye so that's why it gets a 4. The mud pie dessert was also very tasty. The view of the bay was also absolutely incredible! Highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. read more

So glad that this pub was recommended to us and especially during Covid, We have gone twice and so far hands-down they have the best halibut fish and chips ! Also a great pour on their local beer , our server was called Allison, was well-informed professional and very nice what a credit to a restaurant when you get somebody who is well trained and genuinely liking her job., I would recommend to sit in her section if you can. Food prices are inline, would be great to see a happy hour. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a sunny Friday afternoon but sat inside as my girlfriend's father has some odd aversion to sitting on patios despite the excellent weather. The food was typical pub fare, it was good but nothing outstanding or mind blowing. I had the Oyster burger which was okay but I think I had three or four bites of my sandwich before I encountered anything that resembled an oyster. The fries were thick cut and nice and fresh, and the rest of the family seemed to enjoy their meals. The decor was nicely finished and the servers were all friendly and attentive. The music on the other hand made me feel like I had been trapped in an elevator from the 70's. The beer was nice and cold, and perhaps the next time I'm in Comox we'll be able to enjoy it outside on the patio. read more

I met a friend there a couple of days ago to catch up over dinner and drinks. We were there early and ordered drinks and dinner, the food was good and we started what we thought was going to be a pleasant evening. Halfway through our meal we were asked if we wanted another drink, which we both declined as both our original drinks were still half full. After dinner, a dessert menu was slipped to us but neither of us wanted dessert and were finishing our drinks and contemplating another one. Then another person showed up with our bill, but instead of placing the bill on the table for us to look at, she pulled opened the bill, asked who had what and proceeded to ring up our tabs for payment. We thought this was odd as we hadn't asked for our bill, nor did our server inquire if we would like it. It's not uncommon for one server to settle up before another starts during a shift change so we just assumed that's what had happened there. We finished our drinks and waited for a server to stop by and ask if we would like another.... When our original server did finally stop by, it was to rudely tell us that we had to leave and we couldn't stay there any longer as there was a line-up out the door, they needed our table. And she wasn't discreet about it. So what started as a pleasant evening with a friend ended in humiliation and embarrassment for both of us. We had been seated at a table for 4, although we were a party of 2. Which left us wondering why we were seated at a large table if space was at a premium? It wasn't a shift change after all. I can only guess that they decided our party of 2 wasn't going to bring in enough revenue and it was best to move us out. There were other tables around us that had arrived before we did that were parties of 4 and we didn't notice any of them being forced out the door. It would explain the rush for us to pay our bill and leave, although we weren't finished. But hey, at least I was home by 7pm? And that line-up out the door? It was 4 people. I'm not sure if they were together or not. EDIT: The owner reached out to me and reparations were made to ensure this never happens to another customer of theirs again. I'm satisfied with her efforts and have changed my review to 3 stars to "neutralize" my review. My bad experience was the result of one employee. My meal was excellent and we were having a very pleasant evening up to this point. I sincerely hope the employee realizes the damage that could have been done to not only the reputation of her place of employment, but to the professional reputations of myself and my friend in this very public display. read more

I loved coming here 5 years ago, however after visiting during my travels back up the island I have switched my tune and have witnessed a decline in service. It is not due to food because we did not even give it that much time, we left. Maybe the lack of service was due the fact we were weary, and not dressed to impress (or tip.) We had been traveling from Vancouver all the way up island. I took a special route just to take my boyfriend here for lunch and he was the one to suggest we leave. Servers need to be trained to be respectful of ALL patrons. Whether they are young and casual or older and well dressed. read more

-Delicious food (Calamari was not my favourite though) -We tried to order a flight but it comes with 4 set beers and you cannot replace any so what is the point of ordering a flight in the first place... -The particular server we had was really out of line, constantly coming by to laugh at us for how much food we ordered (2 appetizers and 2 mains) and finally she came by to say "i guess no dessert after that?" Although we did plan to have dessert we decided not to do we took our desire for something sweet somewhere else. read more
