Went recently for dinner. Husbands birthday. I ordered the fish and chips and my husband ordered a hamburger. I haven't bén there for ages but from what I remember they were more than a pub. It was actually quite nice. I think it has gone down hill. My fish and chips was not good. The fish was heavy with oil and overcooked. The food is good - and they have great half-price wine specials, marked-down appies and reduced price beer during their daily happy hours. This is one of the local favourites for a hearty meal with great ambience and family friendly. They have a nice bar and dining area. You will love this all day menu with a nice variety of appetizers, lettuce wraps, tacos, burgers, some featured items such as AAA flat iron steak sandwich, fish and chips and beef dip. I was super hungry after a long day at a client's office. Deciding between the grill or the pizza/pastas/bowls section, I went for the Jambalaya bowl with mild spiciness. The ingredients were plenty and fresh. It satisfied both my palate and stomach! I think the flavour could be more dimensional though. It was mainly spicy and savoury. - Jambalaya bowl: packed with prawns, chicken, chorizo sausage, 3-colour bell peppers, rice, spicy creole sauce and grilled focaccia. Their house made habanero hot sauce was hot. Mild was actually like medium for some people. Order with caution! As we always say, "A meal without dessert is not complete." So I chose this not-always-the-same-flavour cheesecake. It was frangelico coffee that evening. It was so good! Maybe better than the main course! - Frangelico coffee cheesecake: the frangelico liquor with subtle coffee flavour in this creamy and rich cheesecake. Yum yum! We had never been to this restaurant before so decided to try it for a late lunch. Our waitress was very pleasant and brought us our beverages quickly. She took our orders, Spicy Calamari and Beef Dip. There were 2 other diners in the restaurant. After about a half an hour we got our food. The calamari was not very hot and the batter was soggy. The dish was supposed to be served with tzatziki. I got sour cream with something green in it, not cucumber or dill, it resembled tartar sauce. The beef dip came with a bowl of soup which was good! However the beef dip was not. The meat was cut thick and it was tough. We ate what we could and took the rest home for the dogs. The meal cost close to $70 because we had a beer each. Very disappointing. Two thumbs DOWN! The star goes to the waitress NOT the kitchen! read more

We had a very nice lunch at fluid. It's a very busy restaurant and they have many good options on their menu. We decided to share a couple of appetizers for lunch. We had a lunch special of flatbread with steak, goat cheese and greens and it was very good. We also shared an order of spicy peanut chicken wings that tasted similar to chicken satay. Worst carnivore pizza ever. Personally I would think it would have meat on it... not just veggies and bbq sauce... might have been some small pieces of ground beef but had to say... Fluid used to be a go to restaurant for my family and I. We have now ordered take out from them on four separate occasions and the food is half of what you would get in the restaurant. I realize inflation but this has been very disappointing. We ordered fish and chips and it looked like store bought highlanders fish from superstore. The fries would be unlimited in the restaurant but half of what you would expect. The fries were limp and also somehow burned? The fish was...welI.... I just don't even know how someone felt good about serving it. Very disappointing I will never recommend or go there again. This was my son's birthday meal he picked out because it used to be his favourite. Just wow. So incredibly bad I still am wondering wth happened to this place. I can't believe this place exists in Courtenay. It has a nice outdoor patio, large menu and great portions. Okay that's not surprising, but the food is actually good! Not amazing, but it's very good. I had the chicken stir fry and couldn't even finish the plate. The taste could've been better, but I'd definitely go back here and try something else. read more

I was looking for a place to relax, eat and have some drinks. This restaurant was suggested to me so I came through on a weeknight. Pretty nice interior. Staff was helpful and nice. Food was pretty good and the portions seemed large but pretty expensive for what it is. Seems like your standard pub food, done a little better. Happened on this place kind of by accident but so very glad we did. We ordered the lamb burger Aussied with kennebec fries and then the grilled chicken burger with a side of seafood chowder. All of it was just so tasty we were sad there were no leftovers really, and to add to the experience we also had great service. They are stupidly playing 5hecwaitlist =positive hype, when in reality they are just another mediocre restaurant in the middle of BFN. That crap may fly in Victoria or Vancouver but not in fricking Courtney bc. Plenty of other establishments that are happy to take the $150.00 we typically lay out on supper after a long day on the mountain. Wow!!! We had dinner here tonight and it was amazing! Wish I took photos. Our meals were chicken Parmesan pasta ~ a very large portion and tasty! Two of us had fluid burgers with grilled chicken and a wonderful aioli sauce. A giant plus is that this restaurant is gluten sensitive. They offer GF hamburger buns - which are amazing too! Disappointed. Ordered steak well done and it was served medium rare. Sent it back ... Waited 15 minutes and server came back and said they had dropped the steak and would have to start over. This was a wonderful experience probably the best restaurant I have been to in awhile. I ordered the 6oz steak it ended up coming out cold. Still delicious but not warm. Started off with the calamari & crab dip. Crab dip was nice.. full of chunks of seafood. Chips were fresh. Didn't try the bread as it was just dry. The calamari was a HUGE let down. For $14.. even if it were $5, I expect calamari when I order calamari. I think we got 8-10 pcs. The rest of the plate was red onions (I'm not hating on them), couple red peppers, handful of jalapeños (yum), and a ton of little batter balls. Like half the plate! I didn't pay $14 for dough. And the little bit on calamari we did get was a joke. Smaller around than my pinky nail and thin thin. So of course it was way over cooked. And it seemed like they battered it, deep fried, then battered & deep fried again. Ok, I'll move on from the appies. Had the Caesar wrap & over done fries and a Spanish burger w/ soup for $19. Didn't eat half the burger as it was over done with charcoal edges. Chowder was flavourful but not sure why they called it creamy as it was not. Don't think we'll be back anytime soon. read more

After enduring a terrible encounter at Billy D's pub and grill due to extremely rude and unreasonable staff we came here to fluid. We quickly went from what seemed like a ruined evening to an excellent experience. The food was great and staff were very friendly and accommodating. If you are in the area and wondering where to go for a delicious meal and a few drinks I would strongly recommend this spot, don't waste your time on Billy D's. read more

On Saturday my wife and I wen to Fluid and had one of the worst restaraunt meals that we have ever had. We had to send the seafood chowder back as it tasted rancid and was inedible. My pork tenderloin special was salty and tough. Although thay want you to give them extra time to prepare the dessert, I don't know why as the puff pastry was stale and the mini donuts were like hockey pucks. The service was okay, but at no time did manangement try to discover our problem. We have eaten at Fluid several times as well as getting takeout from there but we will not return as there are far better retaraunts for the money. The chef obviously does not check the food on the way out of the kitchen and management does not care about the opinion of the guests. read more

Fluid is one of Courtenay's little gems. The food is always plated nicely and they use fresh ingredients so everything is very flavourful. The Lounge area is nice if you just want to hang out in a comfy booth and enjoy a nice beverage and appys. The open deck is a pleasure on a warm Spring/Summer day and I find the meals are always consistently good. Nice ambience for the younger crowd in the evenings as well.
