I get my hair done with Darlene . First off let me say she's amazing . When I first booked with her I sent her possible looks I was going for and color. I came in for my first appointment which was my cut & we did my consultation for color. She was so sweet and easy to get along with. Connected with her on so many things we had great conversations. She was excited about the cut I wanted (mullet) & since it was a big cut for me we started off small. Now I'm four appointments in and worked my way to full joe dirt mullet. & she's done a different color in my hair each time. Results are always amazing. She helped me change to a cut I really wanted & helped me ease my way into it , in a way I will feel comfortable and confident. She also did my Brazilian blow out & it's AMAZING ! I can never go back to frizzy hair again. The salon as a whole is nice and clean. The staff are open, nice, and conversational. They keep the salon up to par for presentation with all holidays/seasons . Definitely relaxing vibes for a mini spa day for a good hair treatment and scalp massage. It's also very nice that all product recommendations I've gotten so far I was able to purchase right there at the salon and not have to go to Ulta to pick it up. Darlene's Booksy is very easy to maneuver and very detailed on the services provided . If you have any questions she's always quick to answer with a break down and explanation. I would recommend this salon & Darlene to anyone looking to get a nice hair transformation. read more

While searching for a stylist on Yelp, I came across this page and saw Darlene's work and loved all her work! After seeing her work I knew my search for a hairstylist was done. I booked with her and she was very quick with responding and really helpful as well. During the appointment, she was so nice, made me feel very comfortable and she showed that she cared about my hairs health and being on the same page for my hair goals, which she met the goal 100%. My hair came out exactly how I wanted it and I got so many compliments on it. My hair felt so soft and voluminous. It's been a few months since my appointment and my hair still looks amazing. I met Yvette (she's the owner of the establishment) when she was doing hair out at Regis in Downey. She then moved to another salon and now owns the Shear Lounge. I'm so proud of what she has accomplished. She works with 2-3 other stylist and while I'm sure they are amazing as well I've only worked with Yvette. Yvette turned my virgin black hair into a balayge and eventually I went full blonde. My hair did not come back damage even when using the bleach. I also started getting Brazilian Blowouts with her while dying my hair. I only go to her because she's incredibly detailed and is very direct with you want and what is attainable. Ladies do yourself a favor and invest in getting the Brazilian. It is so worth it. read more

This post is way over due. Yvette is absolutely the best. I don't even have to say anything when I walk in. She looks at my crazy grown out, dry hair and knows exactly how to bring it back to life. I honestly don't know how long I've been coming to her. I've followed her from a few different places and finally here at her very own, Shear Lounge. Along with her skills, she is the kindest person and knowledgeable in everything hair. If you're looking for a new salon, look no further, you won't be disappointed. read more

First time going to this shop and I will definetly be returning! Met with Darlene and she was AMAZING!!! I'm very shy and don't trust people with my hair due to bad experiences but she changed all that! Talked alot about my hair before hand what would work, what dsnt work, and the process of making that come together. I'm extremely happy with the service and super grateful for her being so patient with me from start to finish! Thank you so very much to Darlene and the shear lounge team! read more

Omg omg omg. IVETTE is the best girls if you have been looking for a hair dresser this is your girl. I had messaged her Thursday night she replied really quick that same night. She asked me to sent her a picture of what my hair looked like so. To be honest with this whole pandemic going on I had used box hair dye I know bad job on me. I explained to her and well she booked me an appointment that Friday. My appointment: Nice clean salon took my temperature asked me some questions gave me hand sanitizer and a new face mask and we got started. We spoke about the ideas I had and the magic started. I went with highlights and well guess what I loved them. Ivette was really nice professional and caring. She shared with me all the steps of my appointment. She is well worth going to. Thanks Ivette for bring my hair back to life. I love it. read more

Let me tell you about my experience. I have been looking and asking hair stylists on yelp if they could do my hair. I found Darlene and sent her pictures of what I might want. The appointment comes and as I'm sitting in the chair letting her know what I want she seemed confused because she said the hairstyle that I want I already had so she didn't need to do much with it. I thought well I guess I should leave then but I already gave her a deposit which I didn't know the refund policy for. So I decided I'll color my hair. I wanted a deep chocolate redish brown. Instead I look like Allan from barbie. I was nervous when heading in because I was hoping for her advice on what to get instead she would get aggravated when I said I wanted this way but in her eyes it wasn't what I was asking? Idk but she gave me a trim haircut for $60 no style. I was excited at first because the girl in front of me had her hairstyle basically the same how I wanted it and instead she just gave me a trim. I'm really not happy at all with my look. Darlene is a very nice wholesome girl, but when it came to advice for my hair she shouldn't have been the one I trusted to do my hair. I'm very disappointed in this spot. oh and the girls there basically talk crap about their customers like in office space. It's rude and their basically talking about you. I should've gone with the other hair stylist on yelp actually talking about the process of my hair. Rather than going here and showing a picture and getting what picture looks like. I'm really f*cking pissed I payed $200 to get my hair done for the VERY 1ST TIME EVER AND I LOOK RIDICULOUS. NOT COOL. read more

Been going to Darlene for haircuts and color for the past few years and let me tell you, she does NOT disappoint! Always a great conversation with her and she leaves your hair looking and feeling like a million bucks. She is very transparent with her pricing online, which I greatly appreciate. She takes the time to make you feel so comfortable and at home in the salon. You can tell she cares about her craft and wants to see her clients truly happy with their experience. I went in this past weekend for a platinum blonde ombre, where she worked on my hair for 8 hours! She made the entire process so smooth. I am sooo obsessed with the final product and can't wait to go back so she can work her magic again. Thank you Darlene!!!!!! read more

I got my hair done with Yvette today and let me just say she has changed my life and I am not exaggerating. I came in her salon with the most brittle and damaged hair super dry and just ready t be chopped off. When I made my appointment I told Yvette i wanted to get a balayage done. However after she saw my hair she gave me a couple options. She explained that I needed to get rid of the dead hair but I told her I didn't want to cut my hair short. She worked her magic and after a treatment my hair feels great. I am so happy I came across Shear Lounge. I've tried many salons in and out the Downey area and I have never been this satisfied. Thank you again Yvette for the work you did on my hair. I will definitely be back! read more

I found Yvette on Yelp and made an appointment through her website using square up which is very convenient because you pick the time best for you based on her availability. So convenient instead of back and forth texts/calls. She immediately reached out to ask what I was looking for. In person she was so easy to get along with and asked all the right questions to make me feel that I was being listened to. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted except to keep it natural looking and she completely nailed it. I especially love the cut! She has an eye for detail and is meticulous when cutting and shaping/framing the face. Salon is very clean and welcoming. I highly recommend her. read more

Fearful from my last disaster of a hair appointment I nervous walked into the Shear lounge, but as I was kindly greeted and sat waiting for my hair appointment my worries began to melt away. Yvette was so cheerful and bubbling with excitement as we walked through what we should do with my dry, brassy, and uneven hair. She helped me decide which hair cut would best suite my hair, since one side is more dense. She also suggested a toner to fix the brassy color, and a hair treatment to bring it back to health. It was honestly such a profound experience as I realized a hair appointment is more then just someone snipping away at dead ends, but a slow forming bond of trust between client and hair stylist. I left as a happy customer with soft, toned, beautifully layered hair. Definitely coming back and recommend setting an appointment with Yvette. read more

Let me start off by saying I'm so loyal to this woman ! I will follow her to whatever shop she works at. Yvette has been my godsend! It all started off with a haircut and I've been going to her since.. Before her I loved to do my own hair when it came to dyeing but one day I woke up and had blonde ambition.. this could never be achieved alone and I knew better than to waste my time. This woman is amazing.. dedicated.. her technique is extremely well thought out. If someone has a passion for hair it's yvette. She color corrected my hair for hours, fixed a lot of my own mistakes LOL and in the end gave me my dream hair.. which I thought I would never have !! This wasn't one process btw, it took patience but it was all so worth it!! I highly respect and recommend Yvette to everyone I know ! read more

I have had my hair colored by Yvette for the third time today and I absolutely love it. I went to Yvette for the first time in August 2018 to have my hair colored for the very first time and she talked me through the entire process. She took her time to make sure everything went perfect and that I was happy with how it turned out. I was amazed at how it turned out and received so many compliments. Since I went for a stain, purple, verses a traditional color, I went back to Yvette before a trip with family in early 2019 and again she did an amazing job. I went back today and I am so happy with how my hair has turned out. Yvette takes her time and it shows. Love her new shop as there is plenty of parking and is easy to find.
