Salon 1971 is quiet the gem. Not only do they have amazing staff , they also do humanitarian volunteer work ! I started coming to Vero a few years ago . I almost don't want to review this little hidden gem for fear that I'll need to wait even longer to get an appointment with Veronica! Salon 1971 is tucked away in an unassuming strip mall in Downey. Don't judge this book by its cover. Once you enter the salon, it's cozy, modern, and adorable. Everyone I encountered at the salon was such a gracious host and made every guest feel so welcomed. I work in the salon industry so it was incredible to hear every single stylist do an amazing job educating the client in their chair. Each stylist was thorough in her consult and assured their clients during each step by letting them know what she was doing along the way. I'm fairly educated in the structure of cuts, product, and styling but I left on Saturday feeling like I had learned something new, which I loved. Veronica came highly recommended to me by a coworker whose hair always looks on point. I was so pleased by my haircut, that I booked an appointment for color with Veronica (Vero as she's called in the salon). Made an appointment for my daughter on Saturday for November 13, 2018, at 9:00a.m. So I pushed my own 9:00a.m. meeting with a client to 10:00a.m. Tuesday morning comes around, I had my daughter call salon at 9:00 a.m. no answer. I drive her to salon (which is 5 minutes away) but yet no one is there. I had her write a post it and tape it to door (thanking them for letting her know of their tardiness-sarcasm)so if someone came while we went to McDonald's she would know she was next door. Stephanie called at 9:25 a.m. to say: "lost track of time , thought it was earlier than it was. I'll be there in 15minutes." She didn't arrive (in her white car and her blk short outfit) to Salon 1971 until 10:00 a.m. as my patient had run out and I was driving out the door! This salon isn't exactly close to where I live but it is definitely worth the 35-minute drive! Chemo is amazing, he knows exactly what I want to do with my hair and knows how to get it there. Thank goodness for this salon! I have never felt better about my hair. I have always had really difficult, frizzy dark brown hair and never knew what to do with it. I mean, I still don't know how to style it now, but it just looks so much better now. Vero has gotten my color to where I want it to be, while not damaging it like crazy like other places. Brianna is amazing! She takes her time and really understands the look you're going for. Salon 1971 is very aesthetically pleasing on the inside, but they are missing a sign outside, so it may be a bit confusing finding it the first time. For my first appointment Brianna corrected my ombré, and turned it into to everything I wanted! The cut/blow dry was amazing; she has very gentle hands and checked in to make sure I was doing ok. Second appointment was equally as great! She took me from ombré to red! All this without damaging my hair. Honestly, this review doesn't do her justice.
