Amazing staff and service. I made an appointment because the salon was recommended to me by many coworkers, and I am beyond grateful to have found someone like Chemo and his staff. Chemo is wonderful and unlike any other stylist I have had in the past. He is extremely professional, welcoming, and always gives great product recommendations. Thanks to Chemo, my hair is healthier than it has ever been. read more

I have been coming here to cut, color, and style my hair for almost 3 years. The staff treat you like family. Stephanie never disappoints, she is absolutely talented in cutting, coloring, and styling hair. She is also a makeup artist and she is just absolutely talented!! I always leave feeling fabulous, she is always very transparent and explains all procedures and maintenance regarding hair color and cut. I highly recommend her!!! read more

As I was getting ready for an event, I noticed one of my weft extensions was loose. After calling a few salons, I was finally able to get a hold of someone who had knowledge about weft extensions because this type of service isn't available in many salons. I was in and out of there in minutes and was so grateful to have had been able to find them and take me in last minute! Thank you so much! read more

I will follow Salon 1971 wherever they go - Veronica is my trusted hair ARTIST. She always has the best interest in my hair. I have complicated (long, wavy, crinkled, easy to tangle) hair, and she makes sure to care for it oh so gently. Time and again, she achieves my ideal color/style from every photograph I've shown her. P.S - They've recently upgraded their payment system and receipt/follow-up appointments to a much more modern method. You can now obtain your receipts & info on your appt. via text through an automated system. Yay to that & most importantly, yay for Veronica - my hair is lifeless without your magic touch read more

They gave me a great haircut Steph always does the designs I ask. She is so nice with everything I ask.

Veronica Lafarga has been my hair stylist for 8 years, and I would not trust anyone else with my hair. I like my hair blonde (more on the ash side), and long. Any procedure that she is doing on my hair, she explains thoroughly to see if it's a right fit for me. Love the Unite Products they sell, especially the 7 seconds. My hair has more volume, and is longer because of Veronica. She was also able to get me from red head, back to blonde with no damage on my hair. I always get asked who does my hair and always recommend Vero. Thank you Salon 1971! read more

I don't trust anyone with my hair and been going to my lady since I was little, but I can say that I found my new favorite place. I found Stephanie through a mutual friend I loved the work she did on her so I wanted to try it out and I can honestly say it has been the best decision. I wanted my hair lighter then what I had it and before we even started she checked my hair to see how much damage the previous salon Did and explained everything and the process. She is the best and I'm for sure going to continue going to her, I found my new salon and I love it. read more

Got my hair done at this salon for the first time and I was extremely impressed! Jasmine is a total sweetheart and very skilled. I love how my hair turned out. I found the prices to also be quite reasonable. Everyone here seems very hospitable and goes out of their way to make sure you have a comfortable, positive salon experience as soon as you walk through the door. Will definitely be coming back in the future! :) read more

I have been coming to Salon 1971 for my last couple of haircuts and I am very happy with my experience. The salon is well maintained and staff is always friendly. Although I'm not always sure how I would like to cut or style my hair beforehand, Veronica always takes her time explaining different ways that she can cut/style my hair for a certain outcome and does not fail to exceed my expectations every time. I highly recommend her if you are looking for a specific look, or even if you have no idea what type of look you want as she will help you find one that suits you! read more

Went to Salon 1971 today for the first time. I was in search for a new place for a haircut so after reading some of the Yelp reviews I decided to give them a try. I am very picky with who cuts & treats my hair (I take good care of my hair). I called to make an appt and got one on the same day with Jasmine. She was so meticulous and gentle with my hair & I absolutely loved the end result. I think I've found my new hair dresser, thank you Jasmine :) read more

I met Chemo at Saint & Sinners almost five years ago and have been a loyal client because he is... the Michelangelo of men's hair styling. From my Emo days of bangs all up in my face to my wannabe male model right off the Milan catwalk days, he has been my go-to-man! I recommended Chemo to my girlfriend and she loved her haircut. He seems to be really popular with the ladies too. I highly recommend you check out Salon 1971. Pro tip: Call for an appointment for Chemo. He is usually booked because he's got a loyal fan base. read more

5+ Stars!! I had such a wonderful experience and immediately knew walking in that I was in good, professional hands. I went in for a hair and makeup appointment for a wedding. Chemo and Vero were both Highly recommended and I definitely was Not disappointed. Chemo worked his magic on my side-do and Vero worked her magic with her makeup application. This was my first time at Salon 1971 and I can safely say not my last. I would totally make the drive from Alhambra. Thanks again Chemo and Vero for making me feel like a Queen. read more

I almost don't want to review this little hidden gem for fear that I'll need to wait even longer to get an appointment with Veronica! Salon 1971 is tucked away in an unassuming strip mall in Downey. Don't judge this book by its cover. Once you enter the salon, it's cozy, modern, and adorable. Everyone I encountered at the salon was such a gracious host and made every guest feel so welcomed. I work in the salon industry so it was incredible to hear every single stylist do an amazing job educating the client in their chair. Each stylist was thorough in her consult and assured their clients during each step by letting them know what she was doing along the way. I'm fairly educated in the structure of cuts, product, and styling but I left on Saturday feeling like I had learned something new, which I loved. Veronica came highly recommended to me by a coworker whose hair always looks on point. I was so pleased by my haircut, that I booked an appointment for color with Veronica (Vero as she's called in the salon). I loved the style I left with and really appreciated that Veronica took so much time and care in styling out my hair to really show off the cut. Can't wait for my next appointment! read more

First of congratulations Chemo on your salon 1971.. love the name , location and vibe. I went in for a haircut because I couldn't find someone who could style my haircut and give me perfect side bangs My hair is not that complicated but the previous haircut just keep making it worse. There was no shape or form to it. Even if I curled it i had gaps. CHEMO fixed all that!!!!!!! read more

Salon 1971 - Done by Stephanie - Hair Salons Near Me - Downey, California

Made an appointment for my daughter on Saturday for November 13, 2018, at 9:00a.m. So I pushed my own 9:00a.m. meeting with a client to 10:00a.m. Tuesday morning comes around, I had my daughter call salon at 9:00 a.m. no answer. I drive her to salon (which is 5 minutes away) but yet no one is there. I had her write a post it and tape it to door (thanking them for letting her know of their tardiness-sarcasm)so if someone came while we went to McDonald's she would know she was next door. Stephanie called at 9:25 a.m. to say: "lost track of time , thought it was earlier than it was. I'll be there in 15minutes." She didn't arrive (in her white car and her blk short outfit) to Salon 1971 until 10:00 a.m. as my patient had run out and I was driving out the door! I was LIVID at this salon's disregard for their clients time and the juxtaposition of exorbitant pricing as positioned with the lack of professionalism and common courtesy. read more

Veronica is the only person that I have trusted with my hair over the past 5 years. She has given me so many haircuts over the years and did has turned my dark brown box hair to a gorgeous multidimensional blonde. If you're looking to try a new stylist that listens to exactly what you want. Vero is your girl! And the staff at Salon 1971 is so friendly and welcoming! Came in here one day looking for a cut, and I walked out with not just a fresh cut but a brand new hair color. I was attended by Stephanie, and she is A-MA-ZING at what she does! She asked me how I like to style my hair, and then recommended a hair cut that would complement the many styles that I do--I have medium-length, curly hair and I never keep my hair one way. She went at it and I was extremely pleased. She asked if I had ever thought about coloring my hair, I mentioned that I thought of it, but never decided on what I wanted to do. She asked if I trusted her, and I felt spontaneous, so I said "yes". She colored my hair and I loved it!! Ever since then, I've had complete trust in her. Whenever I tell her that I think I am ready for a new look, she seems to know exactly what I want. I've had my hair color change so many times, yet my hair continues to be silky smooth and healthy EVEN after bleaching! Thanks to her professional hair tips and tricks. I highly recommend her. I highly recommend this salon. AMAZING! read more

This salon isn't exactly close to where I live but it is definitely worth the 35-minute drive! Chemo is amazing, he knows exactly what I want to do with my hair and knows how to get it there. I've been to many talented hairdressers but he's on another level =) He's very knowledgeable and educates you so you're on board every step of the way. Thank goodness for this salon! I have never felt better about my hair. I have always had really difficult, frizzy dark brown hair and never knew what to do with it. I mean, I still don't know how to style it now, but it just looks so much better now. Vero has gotten my color to where I want it to be, while not damaging it like crazy like other places. I also got a brazilian blow out with one of the other girls, and it is changing my life! Definitely check this place out. Look at their very active instagram for examples of their great work. I've been meaning to review my favorite salon for some time now. I've been going here for about 6 months now and I absolutely love it! Brianna is my stylist and she gets it done right all the time! I've cut it from long to short bob and had it colored process to go to the infamous grey hair. A lengthy process that only a professional stylist should do, since it's quite some work. I'm always happy with the work done and many kudos for Bri!! Thank you! read more

My experience at salon 1971 was wonderful. I was greeted with a friendly smile and was offered coffee and water. Brianna is amazing! She takes her time and really understands the look you're going for. Salon 1971 is very aesthetically pleasing on the inside, but they are missing a sign outside, so it may be a bit confusing finding it the first time. For my first appointment Brianna corrected my ombré, and turned it into to everything I wanted! The cut/blow dry was amazing; she has very gentle hands and checked in to make sure I was doing ok. Second appointment was equally as great! She took me from ombré to red! All this without damaging my hair. Honestly, this review doesn't do her justice. If you're looking for a new and educated hairstylist, she's your girl! read more
