Lentil soup w coconut and lime
    Brian P.

Staying at the Hilton Beachfront, and checked out The Set bc it's a pain in the ass to get in and out of the property. Plus I love a hotel restaurant. Gorgeous views of the Pacific and attentive service. Ordered the coconut lime lentil soup bc that sounded interesting. Surprisingly flavorful and rich in veggies, yet the coconut flavoring was muddled. Also got the tacos: 2 fish and 1 chicken. Very impressed w the fish taco. Tortilla nicely grilled and the protein was generous. Chicken taco was pretty good too, not the best I've had but solid nonetheless. Had the burger and chicken wings the night before. The burger was flavorless and forgettable, but the chicken wings were noteworthy. Cocktails are decent, nothing to write home about.

No Iceberg lettuce for the expense. I ordered the shrimp dish. Service was excellent. Can eat outside and see the beautiful water.

Excellent hotel restaurant with great views and a massive grass area. Food was good as well although I encountered a not so small fish bone (picture included). Definitely a great place to meet up with friends and relatives and let the kids play on the grass outside. Our server was also very attentive, patient, and accommodating - especially given the size of our gathering and number of kids. If you're staying at the hotel - I would argue that this is the go-to place for family gatherings.

We arrived for a quiet dinner and it was absolutely perfect. We were seated outside where we could savor the stunning sunset on Thanksgiving day. They offered a Thanksgiving day menu which had a limited amount of entrees and appetizers. I ordered the salmon which came with a sauce and a small portion of vegetables. We also ordered the steak which came with a little more sides. We were impressed with our meals, though I was craving some bread with my meal. When I asked the waiter for a side of bread, he said due to the limited menu they had no bread. That was unfortunate, but they did have a little cholula when we needed some more spice to our meals. Our dessert was the ultimate ending to our experience. The carrot cake was so light, soft and moist with nuts to add a crunchy texture. Our server was so helpful and kind.

The views of the beach when dining at the firepits can't be beat. The food is just ok. My steak and fries came out cold to the point that I used the fire to heat it. The sourdough bread that comes with the chicken was the best thing we ate- it was so good! The service was mostly good. There was a point when I was given the check folder but the check wasn't in it. We waited and waited and finally walked in to find her and get the check.

This is such a cute little spot inside the Hilton. They have a great patio outside with heaters in case it's chilly. I love the views you get of Cabrillo and all the palm trees along the ocean. Their service is great and the staff are always really friendly. We were staying at the hotel and actually received vouchers for a complimentary glass of wine for both of us while we were at the hotel. Such a nice perk! Others enjoying this place were ordering food and gathering with friends. Totally recommend this spot! You can park on the street nearby if you don't want to deal with paying to park at the Hilton.

Staying here at the Hyatt. This was our last night and decided to have dinner here. Glad we did because the food was delicious. Our server was impeccable. Wish I remembered her name. We sat outside with heaters above. When we finished dinner we moved over to a fireplace and ordered a s'mores kit. It feeds 2-3 peeps

They should hire more staff. Service was a bit slow. Waitress was very nice and helpful. She was spread so thin tho. :( My friend's food was over cooked. Her poached eggs were boiled and my eggs were overcooked or looked dried out on the top for sitting too long before getting delivered to my table. She also said the hollandaise sauce was really just butter. The bloody mary was served with bacon bc it was a loaded bloddy mary vs a regular one with a celery stick. Beautiful view of ocean from patio tho.

Carne Asada Flatbread, with essentially Zero "Carne" -- you only taste cheese
    Barbara S.

We arrived for our stay at the Hilton in the early evening, and wanted to get a meal without a lot of hassle of finding a good restaurant, getting parking, etc., so we thought we'd try the Set at our hotel, to make things simple. Because we were on the earlier side of dinner, we were able to get a table right by the windows, with a beautiful view of the palm trees, a thin line of ocean, and it was very picturesque. The bar right next to us was quite noisy; I am assuming there was a group there that all knew each other. The menu did not look thrilling to us, in advance, but we thought we'd give it a try. I wasn't in the mood for paying $42 for the sea bass, so went with the carne asada flatbread, which was to have skirt steak, beans, charred corn, mozzarella, onions, cilantro, and avocado crema. I tasted cheese. It was difficult to tell if there was any steak on it at all! I could see a couple of tiny pieces, but most dark parts looked like the tip of an olive or mushroom, which wasn't on my flatbread. (Now that I re-look at my photo of it, I realize those little tiny black tips must have been the beans - also fairly sparse). I wasn't eating the onions. You didn't taste the light sprinkling of green herbs on top over the cheese. If this was an appetizer, and everyone was eating a slice to tamp down the effects of alcohol, it might be okay. As a meal, it was ridiculous! For the list of ingredients, all I could taste was cheese. This was listed for $24. I would never have this again! For it to be called "CARNE ASADA flatbread", and to have about three 1/2-inch flakes of steak on the entire pizza is outrageous. This was not appetizing as a meal, at all! My friend had the roasted corn salad, and seemed okay with her salad, but said it was not one of the better salads she has had, and she has salads all of the time. I would never eat here again, unless I had no other options. I gave it 2 stars, because it had a nice view, the chairs were comfortable, I had a decent glass of wine, and it was conveniently located within our hotel. As for the food, it is nothing to seek out, in my opinion. For a corn salad, a flatbread with mainly cheese, 1 glass of their cheapest wine, and water, we paid $75. Highly, highly overpriced.

    Mahi mahi tacos
    Jennifer M.

Very yummy. I had Mahi Mahi tacos and they were perfectly fried and seasoned. The fish was fresh and Camillo was fast and attentive! Caesar salad is also delish.

Mac and cheese. Pretty but no flavor at all.

The cocktails are highly creative, diverse in flavor and design, and really could stand up to any you would find at a top cocktail bar in a major city. The exterior doesn't scream "must come in" but you absolutely should. Is it a tiki bar? Yes, but in the best way. And the bartender deserves applause for pulling off 3+ quite complex cocktails every 5 minutes off of memory and without any support.

In a stretch of Lower State packed with breweries, wine bars, and roaming weekend energy-drink humans in vintage bowling shirts, it threads the needle nicely between cocktail bar and tropical escape pod. The menu leans tiki-adjacent rather than deep-cut exotica, but the drinks are smartly built and avoid the "every problem can be solved with more rum" philosophy. There's a solid spread of spirits across the board, which makes the place feel more welcoming to a broader nightlife crowd instead of strictly rum disciples clutching vintage Trader Vic's mugs. The Oaxacan Dead was the standout for me. Smoky, balanced, endlessly sippable. One of those drinks where every sip quietly talks you into ordering another without turning into a sugar avalanche. The Jungle Bird was also great, though presented more in the direction of a Negroni than the punchier tropical versions you usually see. Bitter, restrained, and easy to settle into. Crowd-wise, things tilted a little frat-floaty as the night rolled on, but the staff handled everything smoothly and kept the vibe from turning into full pirate mutiny. Service stayed friendly and composed even when the volume of the room started climbing like a malfunctioning theremin. Big bonus points for the location and outdoor seating. Being right in the middle of Lower State makes it an easy launch point or final stop depending on your evening trajectory. Grab a drink, people-watch, drift between breweries and wine spots, repeat as necessary.

When we arrived on a Tuesday evening, there were about seven patrons throughout the bar and the outdoor seating area with the live music drew us in. We were told to order at the bar, so while the rest of our party was seated, I stood there for five minutes before someone took my order. Totally fine, but no sorry for the wait or even smile or any warmth from the male bartender, who disappeared for a five minute break shortly after taking my order. The tables at the outdoor seating area were very sticky and since there were no employees in sight I (and the other patrons who arrived then) cleaned the tables ourselves. After waiting 10 minutes I went up to the bar and assumed since our drinks hadn't been delivered, I was supposed to pick them up, I was told don't worry, we'll bring them to you, and after another five minutes, our drinks arrived. The cocktails were decent, nothing revolutionary but I am spoiled in this department, well made but nothing to get excited about . After 30 minutes of enjoying the genuinely nice outdoor area we ordered another round, three shots took another 10+ minutes. When we realized we had to leave to make our reservation, we asked for a box for our untouched food, and we were told we don't have boxes. They ended up finding one for For us, but it appeared to be a pastry box from somewhere else. The female bartender who took over after the male clocked out, was much more personable, but not much more efficient. To their credit, this bar has an excellent selection of tequilas and Mezcal's, so if you're not in a rush and you enjoy those spirits it's definitely worth stopping by. The music was really great and was definitely the highlight of that bar.

Pearl social is such a whimsical fun spot to grab a drink and a snack in the funk zone. We stumbled in for a late afternoon drink and it wasn't very busy inside - giving off "best kept secret vibe". Also all of the little things were done well, crisp menus, clean bathrooms, and music done at just the right sound level. Their menu in the bar area for food is small but mighty - oysters, cheese plates, you name it. I'm definitely going to keep coming here for the cocktails. I've had one of the best sips in 2025 here - which would be The Mixtape cocktail. My friend told me I had to get it and I'm so glad I listen sometimes lol. This cocktail completely blew me away. My bestie (and yelp elite) Imo brought me here for a girls day after raving about it for months, and now I completely understand the hype. We grabbed seats at the bar (which is honestly the place to be, especially since this spot gets busy on the weekends). Hint hint: make a reservation or get here early. But overall the bar was the perfect place to people watch and to catch up. When it comes to service, impeccable. Despite being busy everyone was attentive and the drinks/food were well placed despite it being a full house. And can we talk about the bartenders? They were so welcoming and even let us film while they worked their magic making cocktails. Watching them crank out cocktails with so much flair was half the entertainment and they couldn't have been nicer. Service was definitely a 10/10. We enjoyed a few margaritas but my favorite was definitely the Hibiscus Margarita. It wasn't overly sweet and was just refreshing. I also had the tamarind Marg which was good too. Extensive cocktail menu and mezcal if you like it. The food absolutely lived up to the drinks. Santo Mezcal takes classic Mexican flavors and gives them a slightly elevated twist while still keeping everything comforting and approachable. My friend couldn't stop talking about her Pork Belly Tacos and I fell in love with the Shrimp Enchiladas. They were loaded with fresh shrimp and covered in the most incredible creamy chipotle sauce (same as their sister restaurant Los agaves for reference). Definitely one of my favorite enchiladas around, 10/10 also. One thing I wasn't expecting is that their chips and salsa might be some of the best I've had. The tortilla chips were fresh, warm, perfectly salted, and paired with a salsa so good I probably ate two bowls before our food even arrived. Honestly, you could sit at the bar with a basket of chips, salsa, and margaritas for hours and be completely happy. Make sure you don't pass up on the chips and salsa. As noted, this is a more elevated Mexican restaurant so prices are slightly more $$$ but you get what you pay for. Just worth noting because if you equate good Mexican food being $2 tacos and a bucket of beer, this spot won't do it for you. But if you want something for more of a special occasion where the food, vibes and service are A+ then this spot is for you.
