We decided to try its breakfast while staying at Mar Monte for the weekend. Inside, with its casual upscale décor, was quite spacious and could easily accommodate 70+ guests. The friendly staff guided us to our table and brough water and menu right away. After browsing through their menu, we ordered the following items: Seasonal Fruits & Berries: In the plate, there were dates, fresh berries, sliced cantaloupe, pineapple, and apple. All clean and delicious. Traditional Breakfast: It was quite a hearty meal with eggs, sausages, potatoes, and toasted bread. Everything was well prepared and nicely seasoned. Crab Bennedict: The crab meat portion was generous, the poached eggs were cooked to perfection, and the toasted brioche was slightly crispy outside and soft inside. Food is delicious! Can see how much detail and effort the chef put into the dishes. The avocado toast is tasty. The smashed avocado has some seeds mixed in which adds extra flavors and textures. I think also some lemon juice inside. The fruit and berries plate for the kids has ten diff fruits even includes permission. The classic breakfast is equally amazing with generous portion. We stayed at this hotel so thought it easiest to eat here the morning of our departure. We're sad we didn't try it earlier. It was so good! Service was friendly. The food was fresh and fast. So it's been 4.5 years now and still a favorite SB restaurant! The menu has changed multiple times since we started coming but each time they do, we lose some favorites and discover some new ones! Currently they have a delectable Mediterranean focused menu. The Branzino was mouthwatering, seasoned & cooked to perfection. The Mezzanine Platter was perfection, the service is always warm & wonderful. The drinks are always so good, we always swear just to have one drink each and often leave with 3 drinks down each. Came here during happy hour and then got a table for dinner/appetizers. Brent was a pleasure and made a delicious margarita (or two). Our waiter Paul was a fun guy and made our visit here feel even more worthwhile. We ordered the baby lamb chops and mezza platter, and couldn't be more pleased with quality and portions. We will probably be back this week for a repeat of the same thing. Hopefully Brent and Paul, and kitchen staff will be there when we return. read more

Great service. Inside is really cute but we sat outside for the beach front view. It was nice weather on an August Sunday. Everything we ordered was delicious. Initially came for the whole branzino but didn't see it on the menu. Got the branzino filet instead and it did not disappoint, absolutely delicious! Really great burger. Cooked exactly as ordered. Not burned/over charred at all (but not gray!) Special ketchup and bacon added great flavor. Bacon was also cooked perfectly. Frys were a 9.5/10 (cooked perfectly, still crispy even at the end of the meal). Bun was "only" 8/10 as it was slightly dry, but the rest of the burger was juicy, so no worries. Tomato was actually ripe! Waiter/host were super nice and checked on extra drinks regularly! read more

Costa Kitchen is the on-site restaurant for the Mar Monte Hotel. I'm usually not big on hotel restaurants but Costa Kitchen was quite good during our stay. We only had breakfast here but I would definitely recommend breakfast here and if you sit in patio area, you will get amazing views of the Ocean. They have a very wide selection of breakfast options and an open bar for breakfast as well. I got the Omelette with chicken apple sausage. My first impression of my meal was that everything seemed farm fresh. The potatoes were the real treat as it was well seasoned with a nice crisp texture to them. Service was very responsive and friendly. Next time we stay at the Mar Monte we will definitely be visiting Costa Kitchen for our breakfast needs. read more

Do not underestimate this hotel restaurant. The burger was delicious. All the toppings like jalapeño jam, arugula, bacon were a perfect pairing. This time, they opened for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We got our balcony table. The breakfast was pretty good. I ordered Steak and Eggs ($32). The grill Prime NY steak was great, not salty and dry. The crispy potatoes were so delicious. The country toast with their homemade jam was an excellent combination. The Classic Breakfast ($22) was great, too. The pork sausage patty was so tasty and delicious. The seasonal fruit & berries ($13) were great, it has 10 different types of fruits. The service was great! Our server was very friendly and helpful. Who doesn't want a good breakfast with fresh ocean air to start a day. Located right inside the Mar Monte Hotel, this spot is a gem. We stopped in for breakfast and a light dinner, and everything was fantastic. The avocado toast is a must-try--so fresh and flavorful! Included with a stay at the Mar Monte hotel, order off their extensive menu, and charge it to your room, and it gets offset by the breakfast credit on your hotel bill, at least that is my understanding. In any case, our breakfasts were delicious. My chocolate croissant was still warm, flaky, and filled with chocolate (the most important part). My omelet was served straight off the griddle and served with homemade potatoes. Regan's service was very friendly and attentive, with just the right amount of checkbacks to make sure we had what we needed. Located at the far end of the hotel, there are outdoor tables overlooking East Beach. and an easy walk to the zoo. Rather than standing in a long line at the zoo snackbar, this place is a great alternative. read more

I was surprised that the food was as good as it was. It was a slow start as the server was not very attentive. It took about 30 minutes for him to come to our table when our other guest arrived. Polite but needs to be refined in his service skills. The food was pretty good. My only complaint was it did lack of seasoning but it was beautifully plated. My only other complaint would be that my, 20 dollar glass of Cabernet was straight out of the refrigerator. I can't drink chilled red wine. Ambiance was beautiful, the manager was very nice. Really cool coastal vibe! Found this spot on Opulist and was happy to get to try it. I had their Brussels sprouts which were different than most, adding peppers and onions giving it more of a Baja flair. Their focaccia was really good with olive oil and vinegar. I had the chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies and thought it was pretty tasty! I also tried the locals martini which has olive brine and pickle juice but the pickles wasn't over powering. We stayed at the Mar Monte Hyatt and the included breakfast was at Costa Kitchen. And what a great breakfast it was! The sunny, open dining room is bright and inviting. Our table looked across Cabrillo Blvd to the waves on East Beach. The friendly staff were welcoming and attentive. Our server, Regan, was wonderful. I ordered the "Classic Breakfast " and it was excellent. My wife had an omelet and pain au chocolat that she declared the equal of any she's had in France. read more

I was really disappointed with our experience here. First, we were shocked to find out about a 20% service charge that wasn't clearly disclosed. It wasn't on the receipt we were initially given, and we only found out when we questioned the total charged and the waitress brought out an additional receipt. That's not transparent at all. We would not have minded at all if the service charge was disclosed, but no where does it say that it would be added. As for the food, it was okay, but the beef cheek pasta we ordered was so salty it was barely edible, and i loooooove salt. The beef cheek was very tender I will say. The ribeye steak barely had flavor, it was cooked nicely tho. It was almost as though they added all the salt from the steak into the pasta we also ordered the ceviche, octopus, tri-tip but it was nothing special and not really memorable sorry The ambiance is nice, and I guess that's what this place is banking on. However, the service wasn't great either. Our server was very hospitable but not very attentive. Everytime we would try and get her attention it would take at least 5 minutes for her to even notice us. I get that they were getting busy, but for the price and mandatory service charge, I expected better. I won't be coming back, and I can't recommend it. read more

When we visited during COVID pandemic, it was closed for renovation. We were there for a sunny morning breakfast. We were the first to arrive and chose the outside patio seat. We sat down and were handed a menu by the waiter. We have ordered the following breakfast: - Steak and Eggs X2 - Great, it was a New York Steak with scramble eggs for both plates. Both steak and egg were cooked well, not too dry and the home strawberry jam was the best. - The Classic Breakfast X2 - Good, on both plates there are pork sausage patties, grilled tomatoes, crispy potatoes, white bread, and one with scrambled egg and the other with 2 sunny sides up. Everything on the plate was delicious such as the sausage patties and homemade jam. The only one that might need some improvement is the crispy potatoes which are not so crispy but tasted ok. - Seasonal Fruit & Berries plate - Great, it was one of the best fruit plates that has 10 different types of fruits. It was well worth it. - 3X Orange Juice - Grapefruit Juice - 2X Hot tea - 2X Coffee - Cappuccino We really enjoy the food and the service provided and the nice ocean front view. A beachside restaurant that's a stone's throw from the Mar Monte Hotel -- the decor and ambiance were Spanish-inspired and cozy. The staff was nice, albeit seemed a bit overstretched trying to manage everything at once. We were visiting during Christmastime, so I do want to call that out and tried to be understanding. We stopped in for a drink and our experience just felt underwhelming. Our group ordered wines and beers and waited well over ~20 minutes to order and just as long to get the drinks, which felt like a slog since nothing had to be mixed or made. I got a chardonnay, and the wine tasted pretty watered down. The restaurant was cute, but my experience here was alright -- but I could be convinced to give it another try! read more

We gave costa a second chance and shouldn't have. Their staff are very rude! When you have very overpriced food and rude staff, it really doesn't allow for any justification for the high priced food. This is the best part about staying at Mar Monte Hotel! And dare I say, this restaurant ties the whole theme together. Without this spot, that hotel wouldn't make sense. Costa Kitchen & Bar had the charm, the looks, the ambiance, and the hospitality that the hotel was desperately lacking. We walked through an exquisite Spanish style hallway into the thoughtfully decorated dining space. Our waitress welcomed us warmly. From the ease of placing our order to our aesthetically pleasing entrees - everything was what I'd picture a dream family brunch to be. There was even some peace and quiet while we ate, because my boys were too busy munching on their food to make any noise. I highly recommend their lemon ricotta French toast. Oh man! I've never tasted French toasts that good. The texture was perfect. The toasts had lemon curd drizzled on there. There was just the right amount of lemon zest in the batter. I appreciated the fresh blueberries on top. I also got a side of eggs and bacon to share. Oh and their coffee was a nice surprise! Usually restaurant's drip coffee is mediocre. First visit to Costa but won't be my last. Costa came as a recommendation for its location but the service should be the greatest reason for coming. Dropped in the bar with my family for quick drinks. Bella, our bartender, recommended a few favorites. Each drink was great. We enjoyed the service and her kindness so much that we stayed for dinner. It's sad that this restaurant with a great view of the ocean had to be ruined by poor service. Pedro was our waiter and he was the absolute worst. He seemed annoyed when taking orders and was not accommodating at all. During our meal, he did not provide glasses for water, argued with my family member over a poached egg, and forgot a meal. To add insult to injury, when I disagreed with the gratuity charge, he told me he removed it but then charged my card with it added. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. The recent negative reviews are all true and authentic. I have no reason to give a business one star, but this place and Pedro earned it. The highlight of this debacle was also this from Pedro: "Sir, by the way, it's my birthday! Thank you very much." First time checking out Costa and went for Happy Hour. They have live music Wednesday and Friday night from 7-9pm. The decor is visually pleasing, bright and sophisticated. Ordered over easy eggs and medium rare steak. Got well done steak and scrambled eggs. Talking to our waiter was painful as he was so confident yet so bad. Can't beat the location but the rooms at hotel are also not great. Could have stayed at the Hilton down the road for same price. Rooms are tiny ($550+ night weekend).
