They also sell kinetic sand, Magna-Tiles, magic water marbles, building blocks, floor puzzles, board games, educational DVDs and CDs ... I could go on, but then this review would just be a list of every cool plaything that's out there. But they don't just sell toys here. This place is also a school supply store and place for teachers to buy items for their classrooms, including banners, posters and things for classroom organization. There's also a space in the back of the store just for laminating. The prices are comparable to other brick-and-mortar stores, and you might be able to find some of their products cheaper online, however, I can't think of a place in the area that has this much selection, where you can actually see the toys and products and -- in many cases -- play with them. Which brings me to another reason why I love Lakeshore: They have stations throughout the store set up with different toys and games for the kids to play with. It's so fun! (Well, it's fun for kids; it's not so fun for the adults who have to pry the kids away from the store.) On Saturdays and Sundays, they offer drop-in art workshops for kids for free. Perhaps it's due to what I was having framed, (Military and police memorabilia, badges, awards etc.) I was very polite on each visit and went out of my way to engage meaningful conversation, but was met with rude responses, scowl face and a clear unwillingness to do business with me. Because I made a true effort to be polite every time, I can only assume this young lady was not the right fit for the position. On one visit, she scolded me for not responding to their pick-up-order call. No message was left and my phone thought it was spam. Explaining this met with further rudeness. The second encounter she refused to work with my item to redo it, until I broke it out of the existing frame myself. Glass shattered everywhere and she offered nothing to assist in clean up. My third time I called ahead to see if this project was completed early and if I missed a call like before. Again, very rudely I was told it wouldn't be ready until the due date. I arrived to pick up the item on the due date only to learn she was just starting to work on the item. Now past due I still have not received a response referring to its completion. This young lady has no customer service skills and has stopped me from submitting my next project. I will not shop Michaels again as long as she is employed in their framing shop. The best part is there is no clean up after or even before having a girls night! We had all gone to another place and while we had fun Hammer and Stain is a lot more affordable and they have a lot of craft variety. I love they have different projects from door mats to all sizes of signs. And they are priced accordingly. While I love my larger projects it is also nice to have some smaller things to do. I won this class on Facebook, but we had just been talking about picking a night to come. Before leaving we checked out the future projects room and there was some fun stuff! I know I want to do some smaller items for my 3 tier tray and my friend saw a cool football she wants to do. The location is perfect! They have their own parking lot. There were 3 large tables and our projects were there waiting for us. You sign up online and pick a project that they will have for the different classes. I have such a hard time deciding, but love the sign I chose! I went with paint instead of stain and love that I can get help even though I have done it before. It's nice to have someone there to help with color choices. I am bad about using too much paint so it was good Mansa was there to guide us! I am always the one who ends up with paint on me. Of course it washed off, or I would have teal fingers today. I love seeing the other projects and really like the paint wall so you can choose colors and stains. They have a website and a Facebook you can follow! I always recommend connecting on FB so you can keep up with all their classes and events. They have a fun Valentines day class where you make a tray and decorate cookies! Our plan is to do a St. Patrick's day class with friends. I can't wait to see all the upcoming classes. We were put in touch with Heather and she was not only able to execute our ideas on short notice(its incredibly hard to find a newspaper printing press that will take a small order!) but she was also able to expand on the concepts, and make them accurate to the time period theme. The final products were beautiful and were a highlight of the event.
