each type of stone is for a specific purpose
Ken N.

While walking through downtown Anderson, I happened to pass this shop with this unusual name and a sign that also mentioned "Crooked Hookers" which struck me as funny, so I decided to stop in. I wasn't sure what to expect but thought I might see something that could be a gift item. After a few steps up to the doorway, I entered into an open space with a few circular displays of "spiritual" items as well as more along the walls. One of the owners of the shop was seated on the floor with a blanket, a large dog, and two cats. I can't say I've ever seen that before in a shop. I let her know right away that the window sign had piqued my interest and that I didn't know much about the shop. She remained seated and didn't really say much as I browsed. There are lots of polished stones in small baskets that are labeled with traits attributed to the type of stone and the zodiac signs that they go with. There were also larger stones, oils and potions, incense, and the crocheted "Crooked Hookers" brand items. I'm not the kind of guy who sits around taking long baths in scented oils, so most of the items didn't appeal to me. And my wife doesn't either, so buying something as a gift didn't work either. Although I thought some of the stones were interesting to look at and see what attributes they were mentioned to have, I can't say I put much belief into all that. So, I am sure I am not a targeted customer. But as a regular guy who likes supporting local businesses, I wish there was something here to draw me in, or at least some effort from the owner to help me find a connection. I've been in similar (spiritual) shops in Irvington and Bloomington, and will give this one credit for being the most organized and easy to maneuver around. Maybe a little more effort from the owner would have bumped up the rating. Review #3549

If you're familiar with the business, you already know the same team is behind southside Indy's Inner Path and this has now become Inner Path's north location. As was true in 2016 when I did my original review, I'm simply not on this side of town that often and don't get here as much as I used to. However, a couple years ago I did complete Reiki training here and am now a Reiki Master. Billed as the largest spiritual store of its kind in Indiana, this is located in a rather lengthy strip center that includes Celtic Cross, Original Pancake House, Oakley's Bistro, and Puccini's among other retailers. It's always been a positive energy place for me and it's where I've gone to renew my energy or pick up items that will support my healing. As I recently started chemo treatments for bladder cancer, I decided I would explore some natural healing options here. I think the name Inner Path actually better describes this place than New Age People. While New Age is certainly a major aspect of what you'll find here, it's really about the inner path and you'll find a wide variety of spiritual paths represented. It's a store that emphasizes the wide diversity of spiritual journeys and does, in fact, carry a pretty wide ranging collection of books, music, clothing, jewelry and other materials from spiritual paths ranging from traditional New Age to Buddhism to Christianity, with a special emphasis on the more progressive and mystical side, to Native American spirituality and a whole lot more. While you're not going to find Crowder Band in here, you will find a wide assortment of music with a strong emphasis on more meditative and instrumental music. I would acknowledge what several folks have noted in their reviews - Things here can be a tad pricey and, yeah, it seems to have grown since their move out of their original Broad Ripple roots (in the building that houses the Vogue) to their current location. Can you get reasonably priced items? Absolutely. However, for most of their artisan-created items you're going to put out some dough - this includes jewelry, home interiors, musical items, art and more. Do I think it's unreasonable? Nope. While I may not shop in these areas often, the market largely supports their pricing point and, unlike some places, you are actually getting quality products. There are also a variety of extras offered including massage, a variety of classes within the realm of spirituality, psychic services, and other special events. They have regular psychic fairs where you can try out the whole psychic scene if you're new to it and wondering about it. They had one going on this weekend when I visited, though I did not go that direction as I was very specifically exploring healing tools. I did break down and buy a "Mean People Suck" bumper sticker. I've always been a fan of their incredibly wide selection of candles and incense. You can get incense across a variety of price points - easily affordable and comparable to any other place that sells incense or candles. I'm not talking your generic mass quantity incense, but actual Indian-made incense or items made in other Asian countries where they actually understand producing incense for spiritual/meditation purposes (there is a difference!). On Today's visit, they were packed. Yet, it still felt very peaceful and energizing. Employees here are friendly without exception (I've seriously never had a bad customer service experience here). When I published my very first book, they were one of the first places to actually carry it despite the book being a tad edgier than their usual material. They truly supported it and I've seen them treat others that way as well. The store is in a strip center that has multiple curb cuts, accessible parking spaces and easy wheelchair access. On this visit, things were a bit tighter than usual in terms of access (thus sticking with a 4-star rating rather than going up). There were a couple aisles I couldn't access and a couple more where I had to wait for people to move. This is made better by the super friendly employees, however, access was definitely a notch below the usual this time around. You can also get some teas and snacks in a snack area here (nothing major) and you can definitely linger. Every time I come here I wonder why I don't come more often. The same was true today. The name may have changed, but this is still one of Indy's true gems.

There's nothing else like this anywhere near here, and what is within driving distance can't compare. I met Melissa years ago while she was set up at a farmers market and was delighted and totally surprised to find out that she had a shop in my small neighborhood. Oaklandon is quaint and cozy but not really known for the excellent small businesses we've gained in the past few years. It helps to have a shop like this in our little neck of the woods, but that's not the only reason I'm now a die-hard of Essential Wellbeings! I love to visit, even if just for the excellent vibes. The shop is thoughtfully curated with a huge selection of harder to find crystals, literature, magical tools, and of course, aromatherapy (Melissa's specialty). Melissa is an expert in so many things. Her down-to-earth energy is so refreshing! She's super well-read and knowledgeable but the humility in the way she shares what she's learned is the real gem. It can be kind of hard to find people who are experts in this area to begin with, but then to find someone who's not pretentious about it is a gift. I took the chakra balancing course and had an amazing experience learning so much! The first product I fell in love with was the chakra oil mists. Shortly after finding Essential Wellbeings, I had a pretty difficult conflict in my life and Melissa welcomed me into her space to relax and chat without expecting anything in return. I'm so grateful to have stumbled upon this gem that was right beneath my nose

First off: the branding is awesome. It's visually appealing and makes you want to stop and check out their stuff. That's an accomplishment in itself. Secondly, the owner is very helpful, knowledgeable, and passionate about her products and services. It truly is a one-stop-shop for all things needed for spiritual cleansing, health and beauty, aromatherapy, and more. They have essential oil blends, chakra balancing classes with essential oils (can't wait to try this out soon!), health/wellness concoctions, crystals and stones, smudging equipment, skin care, pet care, and the list goes on. Definitely check this place out if you're looking for anything holistically healing and more for yourself, friends/family, pets, the home, and more. You won't be disappointed!

On the way home tonight, I finally got my chance to stop in. The Silver Witch is located in a small strip center on East 56th Street. It's on the East end of the building and the building itself is next to Mousetrap Bar & Grill. The Silver Witch took over the spot previously held by Pearl Plants (I hated to see them go). I believe at one point this was also a bar, however, that's been a few years ago. The Silver Witch is essentially a gift shop with an alternative spirituality vibe. From the name, you should probably gather that there's a definite focus on Wicca and more nature-centered spiritual paths. That said, there is an awful lot here that could please anyone. The Silver Witch carries plants, jewelry, original artwork, books, candles/incense, stones, and a host of other items including some clothing. Everything I saw was of good quality and pricing varied quite a bit. You can definitely spend a decent amount here, however, you can also find affordable items. For example, I came away with some high quality incense at $6.95 for a 30-pack. They also have incense options by the individual stick. The employee who was working was friendly and helpful. I did get a sense of being overly watched, however, since this is at 56th and Keystone I can't say I blame them for being cautious. This is an older strip center. I'm not sure I saw any accessible parking, though I had no issues with finding a spot where my wheelchair could function just fine. The only slight issue might be if Mousetrap was having an event as this tends to fill parking spots. However, The Silver Witch closes at 7pm and mostly avoids that nighttime live music crowd. The entry is level to the ground. The entry is a single doorway that was pretty manageable. There's a slight lip at the door, however, I had no issues. I was pleased that pretty much the entire interior was wheelchair friendly. It's divided into three separate room areas - most of the plants are in the front room along with the incense and some jewelry and stones. The middle room gets into more jewelry and artwork and books. The back room isn't quite fully utilized, but it seems like they host some events back there. There are also terrarium items in the back. I really only found one corner where I got a bit nervous about hitting something. Everything else was wheelchair friendly. While I did think the employee was a bit wary, she was also very helpful and I got the sense that if I needed assistance she'd have done what she could. This is really a good spot for this type of store with a headshop on the opposite end, a vintage retailer in the building, and Mousetrap next door. I'm really hoping The Silver Witch prospers here. Overall, this is probably in the 4-5 star range. However, I liked the customer service was solid, the selection was great, the prices were fair, the atmosphere was welcoming, and I love supporting this kind of indie business. So, I'm going with the 5-star rating while acknowledging this may not be everyone's cup of tea. However, the jewelry, plants, and artwork alone make this a great place to stop when in the area. I'll definitely be back.

What really took me aback was when she just seemed to intuitively know my birth sign. I've always had insightful and genuine conversations with at least one staff member, if not more, when I visit. Never feel like I'm being "sold" on anything, but gifted with knowledge and genuine guidance. Inner Path has a little bit of everything you'd expect to find in a metaphysical store, and then some. I was surprised to also find a decent amount of items that reference God and things I would affiliate with Christianity, nestled amongst Tarot cards and Witch's Brew coffee cups.
