I'm a longtime fan of New Age People, though the first thing to note is that this location has now changed its name to Inner Path. If you're familiar with the business, you already know the same team is behind southside Indy's Inner Path and this has now become Inner Path's north location. As was true in 2016 when I did my original review, I'm simply not on this side of town that often and don't get here as much as I used to. However, a couple years ago I did complete Reiki training here and am now a Reiki Master. Billed as the largest spiritual store of its kind in Indiana, this is located in a rather lengthy strip center that includes Celtic Cross, Original Pancake House, Oakley's Bistro, and Puccini's among other retailers. It's always been a positive energy place for me and it's where I've gone to renew my energy or pick up items that will support my healing. As I recently started chemo treatments for bladder cancer, I decided I would explore some natural healing options here. I think the name Inner Path actually better describes this place than New Age People. While New Age is certainly a major aspect of what you'll find here, it's really about the inner path and you'll find a wide variety of spiritual paths represented. It's a store that emphasizes the wide diversity of spiritual journeys and does, in fact, carry a pretty wide ranging collection of books, music, clothing, jewelry and other materials from spiritual paths ranging from traditional New Age to Buddhism to Christianity, with a special emphasis on the more progressive and mystical side, to Native American spirituality and a whole lot more. While you're not going to find Crowder Band in here, you will find a wide assortment of music with a strong emphasis on more meditative and instrumental music. I would acknowledge what several folks have noted in their reviews - Things here can be a tad pricey and, yeah, it seems to have grown since their move out of their original Broad Ripple roots (in the building that houses the Vogue) to their current location. Can you get reasonably priced items? Absolutely. However, for most of their artisan-created items you're going to put out some dough - this includes jewelry, home interiors, musical items, art and more. Do I think it's unreasonable? Nope. While I may not shop in these areas often, the market largely supports their pricing point and, unlike some places, you are actually getting quality products. There are also a variety of extras offered including massage, a variety of classes within the realm of spirituality, psychic services, and other special events. They have regular psychic fairs where you can try out the whole psychic scene if you're new to it and wondering about it. They had one going on this weekend when I visited, though I did not go that direction as I was very specifically exploring healing tools. I did break down and buy a "Mean People Suck" bumper sticker. I've always been a fan of their incredibly wide selection of candles and incense. You can get incense across a variety of price points - easily affordable and comparable to any other place that sells incense or candles. I'm not talking your generic mass quantity incense, but actual Indian-made incense or items made in other Asian countries where they actually understand producing incense for spiritual/meditation purposes (there is a difference!). On Today's visit, they were packed. Yet, it still felt very peaceful and energizing. Employees here are friendly without exception (I've seriously never had a bad customer service experience here). When I published my very first book, they were one of the first places to actually carry it despite the book being a tad edgier than their usual material. They truly supported it and I've seen them treat others that way as well. The store is in a strip center that has multiple curb cuts, accessible parking spaces and easy wheelchair access. On this visit, things were a bit tighter than usual in terms of access (thus sticking with a 4-star rating rather than going up). There were a couple aisles I couldn't access and a couple more where I had to wait for people to move. This is made better by the super friendly employees, however, access was definitely a notch below the usual this time around. You can also get some teas and snacks in a snack area here (nothing major) and you can definitely linger. Every time I come here I wonder why I don't come more often. The same was true today. The name may have changed, but this is still one of Indy's true gems. read more

It's been a very long time since I had been to New Age People. I went specifically looking for a smudge stick. I asked one of the staff for help in what I should get. She asked me a few questions, directed me to the white sage and gave me instructions on how to use it. I'm very grateful for her assistance otherwise I may have burned my house down! I used the sage today ~ my house is renewed, refreshed & cleansed! I also selected a Lemon Grass bath bomb to try as well. The store was bustling with shoppers and many were buying. I signed up for their loyalty program as I checked out. I'm looking forward to going back and taking a longer look around when I have more time. read more

Crystal is a tremendously gifted reader! I got a reading with Crystal, and it blew my mind! I have had many different psychic readings in my life, and most are a complete waste. I have never been to a reader who knew things that she would have no way of knowing without spiritual guidance like Crystal. She also has great energy. She is non-judgemental of the sitter and also our loved ones on the other side. I imagine her loving energy is why spirits prefer to communicate through her. Got a reading with Jane and I feel like I wasted money. I saw another review after the fact that said she just asked questions and fed off that, which i feel as well. She also did speak on her own personal stories to take up time i noticed. I asked questions and she gave no clear answer. I also felt as though my reading was stereotyped due to my age(21). Such as comments like "you need to watch your foot" relating to driving, as well as "you'll date lots of guys before anything serious, as well as "i see moving happening for you". She was incorrect on me being in the medical field. She really just asked questions then gave "personal advise" it seemed. Don't waste your money, disappointed. read more

I decided to go on my birthday as a treat and take my 17 year old son, for a 30 minute reading and have our aura read. The individuals at shop were fairly nice and they were very well staffed. The shop is stocked with tons of spiritual finds: crystals, wind chimes, literature and apparel. I was also pleasantly surprised to find a table with tons of upcoming workshops, fairs and classes. I am very interested in learning more about giving spiritual readings and reiki. My son and I had back to back 30 minute appointments with Jane. Personally, I did not think Jane was all that thorough nor knowledgeable. She asked a LOT of questions and just fed off of that. She also wasted a lot of time with useless personal stories that has nothing to do with me (eating up time). That does not diminish my personal beliefs; however, readings are not suited to be done by just anyone. She was very nice. While the other waited for our turn with Jane, the other got our aura read which was a lot less expensive and quite frankly more informative. If there is something you are looking for and don't see it just ask they will try to find it and order it for you. Also don't overlook the classes they offer the instructors are well diverse and have helped so many people. My first visit to this most beautiful shop! Went in looking for some crystals for protection with Mercury being in retrograde.... And man! This place did NOT disappoint! I was greeted by Nicole, told her my "dilemmas" and she took me over to all of the crystals. As soon as we got to the crystal part of the store, I started getting goosebumps and got a little emotional. These crystals are very powerful if you are in tune with your environment/the universe/your emotions. Nicole helped me pick out some crystals that she suggested for this crazy retrograde. I then began to browse the other parts of the store and met Vivi--another person who worked there, who talked with me more about different crystals for protection and her own background. Usually, my experience is good. However, I've only purchased items, never had any of the "psychic" services. Last summer, a friend was visiting me. She had recently been cast in a musical. It would be her first time singing in front of people and she was nervous. To give her a "objective" confidence boost, I booked her a 15 minute session with a tarot reader. The only one available was John Tolle. We checked in at the front counter and were asked to wait in the back, in a little cafe area. I waited while my friend went back to where readings where done. John was 10 minutes late. When he came in, he reeked of cigarette smoke. I told my friend, who has asthma, she could leave, but she went ahead and went back into the little room with him. I waited outside. Just a few minutes later, my friend came racing out of the room, obviously upset. John Tolle was pursuing her. He chased her all the way out to the parking lot and had her pinned to my car when I caught up. He was screaming at her, calling her a "fucking liar" and "a dumb cunt." I unlocked the car and pulled my can of mace from my purse. He backed off. My friend refused to talk to me for over a month. When I finally got the story from her, I was beyond appalled: she told John why she was there -- about the musical and her interest in an acting career (she has an MFA from IU). He started with the usual tarot stuff, dealing a spread, etc. Then he told her that the musical was a bad idea. Pursuing acting was never going to happen for her. She pressed for more info and he said her appearance was the issue. She would never find success unless she had extensive cosmetic surgery, specifically breast implants. Then he walked over, stood behind her, blocking the door, and fondled her breasts. She managed to push her way past him and escape the room -- which is what I witnessed. I'm looking into legal options, but regardless of whether I pursue charges against him, I'd feel horrible if this happened to another woman. I want everyone to know to keep their guard up and request another reader. read more

I had been in this store the day before yesterday and planned on writing my review after my trip today. I went in to purchase crystals. I always hold several before deciding which one to purchase. I had my cell phone out and was researching which stones to use for fibromyalgia. A woman with a gray bob and glasses was obviously profiling me for shop lifting. It was extremely rude and insulting. She approached me a total of five times before I went to the counter to pay for the stones. The stones I bought will definitely be well cleansed before I use them. I will not be shopping there for a third time and will be looking for an alternative store for buying crystals. This was not the type of behavior I expected at a new age store. For being a so called "new age" shop, the staff is certainly paranoid. I went in with my phone just about dead, asked if anyone had a charger, out of three people no one had an iPhone? It was suggested to me that I go across the street to Starbuck's, maybe they would have unclaimed chargers...really? I had signed up for a psychic reading from "John" which was set for 12:45. I decided to go back home & get my own charger as it wasn't far. I come back and ask if so can plug in somewhere, I'm shown an outlet and and told that the store is not liable if something happens to the phone. Asked if I could charge it behind the counter & was told there were no outlets....hard to believe, I am then told that "John" was not available & "Jane" would be doing my reading. Jane was nice enough, she looked worn out, not really into it & continually repeated herself, used Osho Tarot cards, which I had never seen before. Not to mention my reading was supposed to be @ 12:45 and didn't start til well after 1pm. It was a total waste of $50 & I'll never get that 1/2 hr back. This store is filled with gimmicky, kitchy items under the guise of being "new age". I do not recommend patronizing this establishment. read more

This was my first time visiting New Age People. I was greeted with a smile. It smelled amazing in the store. Everything is organized. I discovered some really cool items. Their items are authentic so it's pricey. But you get what you pay for. They offer monthly physic fairs every 1st weekend of the month (Sat & Sun). $20 for 15 minuets. They also have a pamphlet that list all of their classes for the month. I plan on taking their yoga, riki & pendulums classes. I'm looking forward to making this my self-care getaway. Okay, I still prefer NAP's old location in Broadripple, but I am a fan overall. Tucked into the corner of a strip mall on 86th Street New Age People has a great selection of supplies and gifts for pretty much any spiritual leaning. Don't let the name dissuade you, this is a good place to shop for really cool jewelry, candles and unusual gifty things - even for your pals who would never call themselves "new age" in any way, shape or form. NAP also offers a variety of services and events and classes including massage, intuitive readings and such. My only disappointment with New Age is with regard to its prices - some of the jewelry, though beautiful, seems a bit steep. Ditto with many of the gifts. I know things can't always remain the same, but it seems that NAP's move to more upscale digs on the north side is reflected in its prices - kind of a shame for such a valuable resource in this community. read more

The feeling here is more of a book store. You want to be silent when you enter and move softly. They carry a nice selection of self help books that may be harder to find in bigger box book stores. They also carry a nice assortment of oils and candles that are earth friendly. The jewelry is unique and pricey. Staff is friendly and helpful, and parking readily available since this is located in a strip mall. They do sale tea and have a small cafe`, but I have never been when it looks as if someone is available to make you something... This part of the store looks like it is intensionally darkened. This was my first time in New Age People (NAP) and found myself mesmerized by the exquisite crystals. Once I moved on, I found myself flitting throughout the store drawn from one interesting object to the next. The atmosphere is relaxing and quite plus you can enjoy a cup of 100% organic, freshly brewed loose leaf tea at the small café/counter made while you wait. NAP offers a large selection of items for yourself or gifts . As I explored I found myself relishing all areas of the store from the beautiful sounds of the wind chimes, gorgeous tea pots collections, beautiful, but pricey, jewelry collection, shelves of self-help books, music selection to browse through, distinctive journals, garden statues, all while enjoying the soothing music and aromas of the store. I even found myself purchasing incense pods with an adorable stone holder. My purchase was the Essential Essences Brand and the Rain Goddess Hawaiian Plumeria fragrance. It reminded me of the fresh rain scent of Hawaii. NAP also offers therapeutic massages, classes, and readings. The readers are very good, kind, and respectful. The managers listen. The supplies are very good and impressive. So, you may wonder, why only three stars? The receptionists, or should I say, cashiers are nice to your face, but talk about you behind your back. Once when I called about something the receptionist started laughing at me. I thought, "Why am I being treated like this. I deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.") I told management on a mean receptionist years ago, and she was kind and empathetic. By the time I told, the abusive receptionist left. That's why management couldn't figure out who it was. But they tried to be helpful and had empathy. Now I heard bad stuff about me again as I was leaving. Today. It was about a situation that was hurtful enough as it was without that cruel comment. So what do I do now? go to management again? They would probably respond in a kind, helpful way like they did last time. But one shouldn't have to go to management to be treated with dignity and respect. Newsflash to receptionists everywhere.: Pretend you work in a doctors office where one is not allowed to talk bad about clients. Some, clients like me, have unusually good hearing.When I said to my mom, that she should have waited till I left before badmouthing me, she said that I shouldn't have been badmouthed at all, that these are not doctors offices, so they are less likely to act professional. I won't go to management again, though they'd be kind and helpful. I will stay away from the place for a few years. As I was asked by phone whether I want to reschedule the reading I was canceling, I said because i heard gossip about me I won't be back for a few years. and that's a promise I intend to keep. I'd still recommend that other people go to New Age People because the management, the readers, and the the staff is nice.
