But did you know they host a smaller version in December, which just so happens to (smartly) fall on First Friday? The one in June can be very hot and very crowded, so I preferred the wintertime version, although there were not as many vendors. The crowd favorites were still there, like Newfangled Confections, Homespun, Crimson Tate, Farizula Designs, Silver Linings Jewelry, Hoosier Proud, USI, Revival Food Co...the list goes on. The gallery was founded in 2000 and located in old downtown Zionsville in Bender Square Shops. It is directly across from the parking lot and street parking is an option. Art In Hand Gallery is a Zionsville co-operative art gallery owned, operated and staffed by a community of 24 local, Indiana artists. I fell in love with several pieces of Chris Davis who does Raku Pottery with feathers and horse hair incorporated into his work. Stunning! He has an art gala in Plainfield April 26-28, '19 at the Guilford Township Library in Plainfield I hope to make. There are many forms of gorgeous art here. I fell in love with several stunning pieces of jewelry ranging in price from $35 - $295, impressive oil paintings and watercolors, vibrant fused and stained glass, breathtaking photography and printmaking, extraordinary wildlife wood carving and woodworking and outstanding pottery including Raku pottery. The prices are affordable when given the quality and beauty of these marvelous pieces. I'm already regretting not purchasing two pieces today that was what I thought was an impulse decision so I passed. Now, that was a mistake and I need to correct. The inventory is every changing and has wonderful and unique art for both your home, office or gifts for that special person. Several of the artists are participating in upcoming art fairs, gallery exhibitions, teaching and other activities. Several will be at the Indiana Artisan Marketplace, Talbott Street and Broadripple Art Fair, Carmel International Arts Festival and Bloom in Fisher's Library. Check the website for details. This quaint little shop was very nice and cute, and had some nice local merchandise and unique nicnacks. I walked through the shop and could tell it had a nice selection of merchandise and the value of the price appeared to be very good. I went into a separate room that had 50% off merchandise, and found a few things that caught my eye which I ended up purchasing. They were kitchen coasters and they were very decorative and attractive looking. The service at the shop was Ok. The woman behind the cashier table was very nice and said hello when I first walked into the shop. When I checked out, she was very gracious and wrapped my kitchen coasters very carefully so that they would not break. Fivethirty Home is a neat shop with great merchandise, so if you are in downtown Zionsville, you should check it out. It is very nice and worth browsing around.

The new location has lots of nooks and crannies for setting up interesting displays and they do. We stopped by while out doing some Christmas shopping and found the store packed with shoppers. Good to see people supporting these small independent shops. They carry about 1/3 vintage items like globes and suitcases and nicely painted furniture pieces, about 1/3 local artisan decor mostly Indiana themed (which I love) and then about 1/3 reproduction vintage filler such as wrapping paper and trendy letter art. In addition she carries a line of high quality chalk paint and supplies. They teach classes on how to use the chalk paint (which I've been meaning to take). The pieces that she finishes are gorgeous - mostly little side tables. Today they carried a lot of Christas themed items. The owner is very friendly and happy to provide advice on painting. She is indeed gifted. The prices on the chalk paints are a little high so I haven't taken the plunge yet until I know I have time to complete a project. I see many customers coming to buy the paint and supplies so they must be happy. There is street parking available and a free lot across the street but it can be a bear to find a spot on a Saturday. They are not opened on Sunday. I'll be back and perhaps soon I'll take one of her classes.

The Accent Shop has been around since 1958 when Dick and Jane Bridgins opted to move out of their department store setting in an effort to bring a more modern style store to the Indy area offering furniture, lamps, tabletop and more. Today's The Accent Shop definitely still focuses on contemporary design, though they have a strong focus on bridal and gift registry items including dinnerware, flatware, glassware, serving pieces, collectibles, jewelry, and a bunch of other fun stuff. This new location is a little more relaxed than was Nora. For the most part, it seems a lot more spacious until you get into the Collectibles area where everything is really packed in. The employees have always been helpful here, though it's definitely in a more reserved way. In terms of accessibility, I'd likely quibble a bit with Yelp's listing that "wheelchair accessible" is one of the amenities here. While it definitely has some of the basics - for example, nearby accessible parking, appropriate curb cuts, and a level to the ground entry - The store itself is for sure a little bit hit-and-miss in terms of interior design. As I noted, this is especially true in the collectibles area where even my small manual wheelchair struggled and had to detour my path multiple times due to far too narrow aisles. I can't imagine a power chair being successful here. That said, the front of the store is vastly superior to the Nora location in terms of space and design. That was nice to see. I also really love the options here. I think the collectibles section bugged me in terms of access precisely because that was my favorite area of the store. From Christmas wares to a surprisingly large (and unique) Halloween section, I was really impressed here. I loved some of the candles. I loved the garden flags. The glassware was awesome. I think my two favorite sections are likely the kitchenwares and the seasonal collectibles. I can easily see myself returning come Halloween. Prices vary. You can sure spend a modest amount here, though there are also some higher-end items. There's something special about a shop that reminds you of the value of in-person shopping. I really enjoyed shopping here and loved the diversity of the items. Overall, I'd easily return and I very likely will during both Halloween and Christmas. While I do wish the layout was a bit more wheelchair friendly, there's an obvious effort here and I'm guessing 3/4 of the store is easily accessible and for the most part going very slowly and with care I was able to see most everything I wanted to see.
