If you want a fun activity on the Indy Northside, look no further!…read more I came here with a group of colleagues for a fun night out from the lab. It was a nice social activity that also allowed moments of quiet to focus on your piece. I find this dynamic kind of nice because I'm not one to talk endlessly even when I'm with my friends. They have tons of pieces to choose from, ranging in price and size, so you can make this activity as much as you want to get out of it. There's no studio fee, so glazes and kiln services are included with your price. They have just about all the colors of glaze, which have a display on the wall by the glaze bottles. The staff are all very friendly, Brooke and Fernando were especially attentive to us throughout the evening. They made sure to help keep our workspace tidy and helped with some glazing and artistic touches. Importantly, we never felt rushed with the process, which helped us feel like we could make something we're proud of. They also have some glass fusing stuff as well, so you can make some kinds of mosaic glass lamp shades (or at least that's what was shown throughout the space). I'm curious how that's priced, because that would be another cool outing! Pottery pieces take about a week to be fired in the kiln, so I don't have my masterpiece back yet. I'm very excited to receive it! They also provide shipping, so if you're a little further away, you can still get your piece. I'm sure I'll be back again before too long!

They have a LARGE variety of different items to paint (as well as different offers as well). The employees were attentive as we painted with filling us in on the process, getting us new brushes, etc. They also offer adult beverages, which is a nice touch for date nights!

I love that you can have craft time without the cleanup! I had just discovered Hammer and Stain on…read moreFacebook after some girlfriends were discussing making craft events part of our get together this year. The best part is there is no clean up after or even before having a girls night! We had all gone to another place and while we had fun Hammer and Stain is a lot more affordable and they have a lot of craft variety. I love they have different projects from door mats to all sizes of signs. And they are priced accordingly. While I love my larger projects it is also nice to have some smaller things to do. I won this class on Facebook, but we had just been talking about picking a night to come. Before leaving we checked out the future projects room and there was some fun stuff! I know I want to do some smaller items for my 3 tier tray and my friend saw a cool football she wants to do. The location is perfect! They have their own parking lot. There were 3 large tables and our projects were there waiting for us. You sign up online and pick a project that they will have for the different classes. I have such a hard time deciding, but love the sign I chose! I went with paint instead of stain and love that I can get help even though I have done it before. It's nice to have someone there to help with color choices. I am bad about using too much paint so it was good Mansa was there to guide us! I am always the one who ends up with paint on me. Of course it washed off, or I would have teal fingers today. I love seeing the other projects and really like the paint wall so you can choose colors and stains. They have a website and a Facebook you can follow! I always recommend connecting on FB so you can keep up with all their classes and events. They have a fun Valentines day class where you make a tray and decorate cookies! Our plan is to do a St. Patrick's day class with friends. I can't wait to see all the upcoming classes. It's fun to actually make decor for your house or give as gifts and I am really glad we found Hammer & Stain!

I was really impressed that the venue was able to move outdoor vendors inside last minute and allow them use of their basement space. The selection was gigantic- clothing, actual bugs, jewelry, art... even a mobile yarn shop? There was definitely something for everyone. I do wish there were a few more food options but it was a small event and the ice cream and Thai I had for lunch was still really delicious! We will definitely have to attend again next year and hope the weather cooperates a little better the next time around. :)

But did you know they host a smaller version in December, which just so happens to (smartly) fall on First Friday? The one in June can be very hot and very crowded, so I preferred the wintertime version, although there were not as many vendors. The crowd favorites were still there, like Newfangled Confections, Homespun, Crimson Tate, Farizula Designs, Silver Linings Jewelry, Hoosier Proud, USI, Revival Food Co...the list goes on. Don't forget to check out vendors down in the basement and explore the open studio spaces! I love this bi-annual celebration of all things local and will put it on my calendar for 2016!

Attended my first mosaic workshop here with a few friends and was amazed at the results…read more First off this is located at the Stutz building, on the third floor, quite near the elevator, so it's not that hard to find. There are plenty of paid parking lots and street parking available around the area. Keep in mind that street parking is free on Sundays. Communication is outstanding, with reminder e-mails, detailed maps on how to find the studio, where to park and after your class instrutions on applying the grout. But let's get to the classes. Currently this location "only" offers Turkish Mosaic Lamp workshops. However, you can choose your type of lamp, or just a globe or candleholder. Entirely up to you and your budget. It is not cheap, but neither are the materials needed. You will be seated at a tablel with seemingly endless mosaic glass options in so many great colors, it's going to be tough to choose a color combination. There are a few suggestions on their website as far as color combinations go. And of course you will need to decide what type of pattern you will be creating. Another tough decision. You will get a two-sided sheet with various patterns you could follow, or you can feel free to create your own. Our instructor was Kurt, a most patient man, as I dragged about a dozen of folks with me as usual and there were a couple of other folks besides our group and with that every last seat was taken. He answered question after question and refilled bead and glass shapes continuously. Showed us how to glue things in place, made suggestions, helped here and there with project gone awry and somehow still managed to share a bit about his home country of Turkey. There are little lit platforms where you can check what your lamp will look like when completed, and also an actual lamp you can hold your masterpiece to and get a better idea. Once you are done with your pattern, you get to create your own mix of tiny glass beads and apply those in all the 'free' spaces. then you are done with studio time. You are given grout and instructed on how to apply this once your project has reasted at least 12 hours. (you will also get an e-mail the next day, reminding you and a link for the instructions again). You will also get your lamp part , if you chose to make a lamp, and the bulb to go with it. All is neatly in a nice sturdy bag so you can add your globe and your grout to it also and have it all together in one place. Highly recommend this experience and I am hoping that they will add some of the different workshops that are offered at other locations. Fingers crossed.
