If you want a fun activity on the Indy Northside, look no further! I came here with a group of colleagues for a fun night out from the lab. It was a nice social activity that also allowed moments of quiet to focus on your piece. I find this dynamic kind of nice because I'm not one to talk endlessly even when I'm with my friends. They have tons of pieces to choose from, ranging in price and size, so you can make this activity as much as you want to get out of it. There's no studio fee, so glazes and kiln services are included with your price. They have just about all the colors of glaze, which have a display on the wall by the glaze bottles. The staff are all very friendly, Brooke and Fernando were especially attentive to us throughout the evening. They made sure to help keep our workspace tidy and helped with some glazing and artistic touches. Importantly, we never felt rushed with the process, which helped us feel like we could make something we're proud of. They also have some glass fusing stuff as well, so you can make some kinds of mosaic glass lamp shades (or at least that's what was shown throughout the space). I'm curious how that's priced, because that would be another cool outing! Pottery pieces take about a week to be fired in the kiln, so I don't have my masterpiece back yet. I had the best time here recently! A group of friends and I decided to pop in here. It had likely been more than 15 years since I'd been here and it brought me so much joy to see this spot totally packed! We went on a Saturday afternoon and loved hearing all of the options for activities. I knew about the pottery but to learn there is also wood painting, candle making, and glassware activities was super cool. I definitely want to come back. We got sat in the more private area in the back and each picked a ceramic item to paint! It needed three coats so definitely set aside at least 2-3 hours for this. We loved learning that they sell local drinks here in case you want to have a bevy while painting. My group had the best time! I didn't receive the text to pick up the items but when I called in they said they were ready. Everyone was so happy with what they made! Came here for my birthday and had the best time! We booked a private party in their event room, which holds up to 30 people. However, I only had 13 in my group, and we managed to sit at two tables of 10--worked out great. Our server was Faith, who was super kind and handled our group well, as we can be pretty loud! :) She gave clear instructions on all things ceramic painting and answered our questions knowledgeably. Pottery by You offers beer and wine, but it's also BYO food and beverages. I brought charcuterie for my guests, and for private parties, they require you to buy your alcoholic beverages from them. We got a couple of bottles of champagne. There was a nice selection of ceramics to choose from, and I opted for a set of 2 mugs. DIY crafting location for all things glass, pottery & wooden painted art! This was my first visit and it's a LOT to take in! I arrived thinking I'd either paint a mug or create a, glass art, winter scene... However, after the tour, and realizing glass art was a separate area than the wooden and pottery painting I decided on the mug. Defeats the purpose of going with a friend if you have to text them from across the room the whole time! ;) This location has a variety of colors(regular and specialty), along with texture options and stencils... they don't all mix well together, it's best to explain your artistic approach with a staff member before beginning to ensure you can actually create what you're picturing in your mind. My mini masterpiece will be slightly different than originally planned due to discovering mid project that the specialty paint I selected wouldn't mix well with the fine line art paint(used to paint the tree, ornaments and snowflakes). The final product, as described to me, will come out slightly blurred. As if looking through prescription lens not prescribed to me... I decided to go for it and embrace the abstract version of my initial vision. Everyone was extremely helpful, enthusiastic, ready to offer suggestions and techniques when you have questions on how to achieve desired results. I was looking for something to do for a family fun day when my daughter asked me to bring out the paint. I decided that I wouldn't be doing anymore cleaning for the day and this came to mind. It was impromptu so it was great that they accept walk ins and there was no wait so we were seated upon entering. The staff is very friendly and helpful and walked us through the process. They had lots of pieces to choose from starting around $10 and lots of colors to choose from. You can bring your own snacks which I would recommend however they have a small selection. For the pottery, you just pay for your piece not extra studio time. I think our 9inch plates were about $22 each. It was great! There were little ornaments for $7. Everything was very reasonable. Came here with a friend to paint pottery on my birthday a few months ago, and we had a great time! No appointment necessary, we just walked in! The staff were super friendly and helpful as they walked us through the process (the number of paint coats needed, different kinds of paints, techniques, etc) and answered our many questions on how to best bring our creative visions to life. I really loved that all the pottery was food safe, which pushed me to pick out a ramen bowl (which came with chopsticks). At the end, we just paid for the piece itself--I paid $34 (tax included) which felt reasonable for a custom painted piece (including all supplies, firing, and studio time). I was blown away by everything you can do here--based on the name, we thought it was just pottery, but they also have glass projects, wood board painting, and candle making! This is a great place to dip your hands into something you haven't tried before (literally!) My Snoopy bowl was a great bday gift, I'm so glad we tried Pottery by You! My two kiddos (10 & 8) had been begging for a return visit to this business. We had a lot of fun on our first trip here a year ago when we painted ceramics together and have been enjoying the art we created in different ways ever since. Note: my son and daughter had painted ceramic snake and cake slice containers while I had painted a brain (haha) that hangs on our living room wall. It is honestly one of my favorite art pieces in our home! Unfortunately the visit we made almost two weeks ago on a Saturday was not as pleasant or enjoyable as our previous one and I think it may have had more to do with the poor customer service & time of day we visited than the painting itself. Yes, weekends at businesses such as this are going to be busy, this business also offers parties, which is why we tried our best to get there earlier in the day. But the atmosphere seemed rushed, hectic, and the staff were using (what felt like) yelling voices to explain the paints and process to patrons. They said "let us know if you had questions" but when we had questions, the younger staff member used a condescending voice when replying or rushed away leaving us more confused than we were before. At one point, my 8 year old was on the verge of tears due to a mistake she felt she made in painting and I had remembered how kind the male owner had been on our previous visit so I suggested (while standing helping my son) for her to ask him for help. When he came over to our table, he began to talk loudly and draw attention to us in an uncomfortable way so others were staring. When I tried to explain what my daughter was needing, her crying at this point, he said loudly "well you have to tell me or I don't know!!" and walked away. He never came back, though we waited patiently thinking he would. I will say, one woman was incredibly kind and DID help us fix the mistake and even brought candy for the kids. She complimented my daughter and let her know the mistake was okay. Some takeaways: ceramic painting for children can be a lot of fun, but it is time consuming (it takes three layers that have to be completely dried in between) so you may want to come on a weekday afternoon or evening. I also wish the staff had the tables further apart so that it didn't feel so crowded. You have to constantly ask other patrons to politely move their chair or say "excuse me" while bumping into tables, squeezing through spaces, etc to dry your ceramic piece. And finally: this is a good business, I think we just came on a very bad day when the staff may have felt overwhelmed. We unfortunately didn't finish our work this trip but plan to come back another time to do so, maybe on a weekday! read more

Fun evening painting for everyone even the young painters! Took my 3 year old for special one on one time and we both had a great time! Staff were very friendly and helpful. This was our 1st time and they took time to explain how everything works thoroughly. Bonus was finding out that all the paint washes out with water! A huge plus when taking little painters! Recommend giving yourself 1.5-2 hours to have ample time to paint and enjoy. I was surprised my 3 year old was entertained and enjoyed herself for 2 hours! Together we painted 5 Christmas ornaments for a total of $30. They said it usually takes about a week to fire your work in the kiln but smaller items like ornaments have been a little faster. Great selection of pottery to paint and awesome ideas for personalizing it. On the walls are example pieces that each staff member can teach you how to replicate and make your own. They also do parties (I did my bachelorette party here)...there's a back room that offers some privacy and you can even bring your own food! Typical time I spend here is 2-3 hours but one can definitely spend more or less time depending on your piece and your perfectionist level. They have an event calender on their website that offers some deals depending on the day of the week that are worth checking out. I had an amazing experience creating my candles. Everyone was so nice. I had to take a flight out of Indianapolis in the afternoon. I called beforehand to check if I would be able to make my flight and more importantly, if I would be able to bring my new candles home as solids. They assured me that it would be ready on time. When I arrived, they greeted me, recognized that I had a time constraint, and helped me as soon as they could. In choosing my scents for my candles, I was asked to give my top 3 scents and they helped me mix and match scents until I got my perfect candles. I had to wait 45 mins to an hour for my candles to solidify. I was called back when they were ready and the woman who called me was so considerate. She asked whether I planned to have the candles in my carry on or a checked in bag so that she could package them with matches. She ended up taking them out because they were going in my carryon but her trying to save me time and prepping me for the airport was so sweet. I would come back to this place anytime! read more

If Pottery by You wasn't fabulous enough now you can make a candle that is 100% soy. They have a ton of different essential oils and scents to chose from. The ones we made have zero smoke. Even after you blow them out you can smell them lingering in the air. Fun and easy. read more

I've been coming to this business off/on for 10+ years. I painted pottery with my girlfriends before we had kids. I started to bring my kids here and now we've had a birthday party here. We've been to other businesses that do the same thing, but it's not as good as Pottery by You. Not only are they reasonably priced, they are also really helpful and happy to help with your creation. We hosted my daughter's birthday party there recently. We had 15 kids and they all loved it. They had so much fun painting pottery. The staff member hosting our party did a great job making sure the kids had all the paint they needed, help with specific painting, and kept everyone on track. They also had all the kids sign a plate that the birthday girl got to keep as an extra souvenir. One of the kids accidentally dropped her pottery and they were very kind to replace it. (Tip: there's a cupcake shop in the same strip mall and a fantastic liquor store, too) PBY has lovely vases, doggie dishes, dinner plates, cups, jewelry boxes, and figurines to pick from. There are finished samples all around the store to help inspire you. The staff has ALWAYS been cheery and ready to help me reach my creative potential. There are sponges, special brushes, special paint... I've never had the same experience twice. After a week you get a phone call that your piece has been 'fired' and is ready to pick up! Have you ever driven by a place so many times it's ingrained in your memory, and then you are looking for places to go and it comes up and you realize you've never once been there? This was me and Pottery By You! Okay first, it's MORE than pottery! They have pottery, mosaics, candle making and board and brush projects. I was looking for a candle making place and they have that inside! It's called 'Fab Flames' or 'Fabulous Flames'. I called prior to going and the man on the phone was very helpful and informative. I was there with a friend making candles for Mother's Day, while a lively Bachelorette Party was making candles and/or Board and Brush projects at the same time, while another large party made pottery in their other side of the store. We had a great time making candles. The layout is great, there was room for everyone and I wouldn't say it felt crowded or too spread out. The candle maker (who reminded me of a bartender, helping us mix scents) was able to help all of us, even with a full bar to help for candles!! They had refreshments as well while you wait; and the wait was about 90 minutes for the candles to set. Kudos to Pottery By You!
