Color Me Mine at Clay Terrace is the kind of place I really want to see stick around. It is not cheap, but I also do not pretend to understand the economics of a place like this, and for me the value is in the experience as much as the pottery itself. My kids enjoy it, and I think it is worth remembering that the reason you paint something can become part of the memory attached to it. The staff have generally been helpful, and we have had good experiences overall. My one negative was when I had previously bought a piece of unfinished pottery and a gift card so I could give someone something a little more personal than just the card, but when we came back to paint, they were told they could not exchange that unused pottery for a different piece. That felt like an odd and unnecessarily rigid customer service decision, especially since it was not seasonal merchandise and I was clearly bringing in new business. Pros: We called at the last minute on a winter Saturday for a group of 6 painters and they got us in right away. Easy to find location and plenty of parking even in busy Clay Terrace. Love the windows and brightly lit room. Challenges: I think part of the fun is choosing your own paint colors, getting what you need, finding stamps, using different utensils, etc. At this location the staff pours the paint for you. There are no 'extras.' I completely understand wanting to cut back on waste. However, I think older kids can distinguish how much is needed. We were constantly needing more paint and it seemed like the staff felt frustrated by that. I find this place to be overpriced. We've done pottery before and have made it out the door for about $30 per child with nice sized pieces. Many of the items here were well over $50 and didn't include the studio fee. My niece spent an hour working on her donut using different colors for the base and frosting, and meticulously painting the sprinkles. I got a call a week after we completed the pottery and was told the 'donut didn't make it.' I understand these things happen but this was a first for us and was super disappointing. read more

My brother and I brought my mom here for a Mother's Day gift/activity and it was so much fun!!! We got to create a ceramic Christmas tree that we will have forever. I would definitely recommend it! When you walk in, you are able to pick whatever table you want and the people working come bring you as much paint as you need. I also found their experience to be very helpful in terms of how many coats we would need to make it look good and their general advice as well. The reason I am not giving five stars is because I felt like the pricing on the website before we arrived was slightly misleading, so it ended up being more expensive than I planned. I also had a hard time finding parking because it is located at a mall and I was unaware that we would have to park in the back. I was looking for an activity to do to destress and I am so glad I found this location! The prices on the pieces are a little expensive, but they are very transparent in their pricing model so you can choose to leave if you can't find a piece that fits your budget. Also, please keep in mind that the cost of the piece is not just that piece of pottery (which yes, you may be able to find something at a craft store). The cost includes the glazing as well and the time in the kiln, so this isn't something you can just do yourself easily. Empty on a week night which I thought would be good so we could get some guidance on what we wanted to paint. I have been to other studios around town and I was bringing a first timer with me. Took awhile before someone emerged from the back room and said "let me know when you are ready". We had to ask about everything, no info given up front about the process or the prices. I only knew to ask these questions based on my other experiences elsewhere. Pricing seems high to me for not getting any help from staff. I asked if I could create something like one of there examples and she didn't know how to create it! Made me wonder if it was actually painted there or not. The staff have to give you the paint. So one teaspoon of paint isn't going to cover a whole lot of surface area. Had to keep asking for more which included waiting for staff to come out of the back room. if I'm going to spend that amount of money on some creativity time, I will be spending it where I feel welcome and can get the supplies I need to get the job done. read more

I have not been to a pottery painting business since I was a child. My parents bought a Groupon for my niece for her birthday and asked me to come along too. The Groupon paid for our sitting fee. They had a huge selection of pottery items to choose from and since we had never been there before, it took us a while to pick out what we wanted. There were three staff members there and they were pretty busy including birthday parties, but always got the help we needed. The staff even came by our table often asking if we needed anything. We ended up spending 3 hours there because my mom and I had picked out detailed pottery items and my niece was able to paint two items in that time. They honored our Groupon with no problem. Overall, the experience was great and we had no problems. We are planning on going back again. read more

First time going to Color Me Mine. We were asked if this was our first time. Since I said yes, I thought we might get some guidance. We picked our colors and were told where the brushes were. Saw other people using sponges ,stencils and stamps. We were never told there were other things we could use to enhance our piece. Had to ask for water to clean our brushes. They did not explain that we had to use a sponge to dry the brushes off. Had to use the bathroom to wash our hands. They did not offer anything to clean our hands off while painting. The kiddos were getting a little messy. Felt awful that the table was getting paint and water all over. Noticed that other tables were covered with paper for messes. Staff was not engaging at all. I'm giving this one star mostly because they had a great selection of pottery to choose from. Other than that, I would give this place zero stars due to their terrible customer service. I made the mistake in thinking that we only had to make reservations if our party was over six people. Since we had exactly six, I didn't make a reservation. The manager in charge got very snarky very quickly about us having six and not making a reservation so I told her no worries and just the four girls would paint. She continues to be snarky even after I said that only four would stay and two would be leaving to go shopping. It's almost like she was trying to convince us not to stay and that she didn't want our business. I've seriously never felt more unwelcome in a place of business. Idea is good, but crazy overpriced! It's cheaper to go to a Michaels and get your own clay figurines for $3-$5 and paint it. The smallest thing they had to paint is $25! Bring 3 kids and you will be paying over $100!! That's if you don't do a piece yourself. Which for small kids who will turn it into a brown greenish mess is ridiculous. Employees seemed more interested into talking to each-other completely ignored us while we were the only people inside the store. Not helpful. This place refused to glaze and fire my sons piece that took him 6 hours to do. We had a "to go kit" and it came with 4 paints. Well black wasn't one of them so I bought some from a different ceramics place. They refused. The lady was rude. Would not help me find a solution, would not refund my money. Shrugged her shoulders and watched my son cry. I do not recommend these people. They are never helpful. They only have piggy bank options for the kids. If u ask a question, they act bothered. My daughter and I have been here a few times, and it a decent place to spend an hour. On our most recent trip there, we were quickly greeted by the employee and asked to fill out a sheet-standard policy. We spent some time looking for the perfect things to paint and after we did, we picked our colors and got started. The things I like best: -good selection of things to pain -lots of colors, stencils and other apparatus to make our artwork perfect -good way to fill up an hour with fun Things I like least: -it's soooooo expensive. I can find the same ceramics on Oriental trading for a fraction of the cost they make you pay for one. between that and the cost to paint, my daughter and I spent almost $50 -I wish I could just grab my own paint rather than waiting on them. It's young kids that work there ,and they like to disappear in the back. Overall, it's a good time. You do have to wait a week to pick up your finished product but that's to be expected. read more

The concept is great and the store is cute but if you bring younger kids (under 8) the unnecessary waiting is so painful. You have wait for the teenage worker to get the pottery piece after writing the number on a paper....then you wait for the paint and supplies. You will not get enough paint the first time and they will not leave the paint bottles at the table. So my daughter painted a coffee mug and we had to ask for paint 4 times. Each time there was a 5 min delay because the workers where either in the back or in no hurry. After we asked for paint once the employee went in back and forgot the request. CRAZY! It's a great idea but I cannot believe that leaving the paint bottle on the table would reduce there profit as much as everyone being annoyed with the waiting! I've been painting here with my friends for the last few years and we love it! It's what we do for all our birthdays and there's always something new to paint. The staff all know us well and treat us so well every time we're in! They remember what we've painted and are always so helpful! My second trip here trying to use a Groupon. The first trip there was a sign on the door indicating no Groupons Apr 4-8. Went back April 10, no special event sign or other indication, to have the Groupon rejected because it was family day. The teenage employee clearly had been dealing with this...she was nervous about telling us, but couldn't honor it. I get Groupon can be tricky for businesses to manage, but really? The place wasn't full, no evidence of a special event this time and no plan for assistance or direction. I won't be back. Groupon refunded my purchase within minutes and we went to another place nearby where we payed full price but were treated well. read more

I went to Ladies Night with two of my friends and it was rather busy and loud but fun, nonetheless. They have a great selection of pottery to choose from. I would have liked to be able to get up and retrieve the paint instead of waiting for the workers to come around and refill... I was a bit hesitant to take my daughter here for birthday based on the reviews, but we had a really great time! The worker met us right away in the front and explained how it all works to us first timers! Basically you look around for the ceramic you want to paint, write the number on a piece of paper. Then choose your colors from the color selection plate (each is numbered), and you write the color number on the palette they give you. The worker then will fill up your paint for you, and you grab brushes, stencils, and anything else you want to make your ceramic pretty! The girl working was very attentive, coming out every 5-10 minutes to see if we needed more paint. We let her know which colors we were using a lot of, and she gave us extra of those. The only tricky part was some of the paints don't match their finished color. It was also fairly pricey, even with a 50% discount on sitting fee. We painted 2 things, and it was $60. I'd love smaller/cheaper ceramic options! read more

I brought an eleven year old boy in to make a present for his mom tonight. The clerk was not welcoming at all and should have advised us that walking in at 7:15 PM, we would not be able to finish our project AND would have to return on another day AND pay another studio fee! Had I known this, I would not have plunked down $90 to discover I would have to pay another $20 to finish the projects. I would have returned another time. I am now obligated to return, pay more money to finish these projects. While I can understand "studio" time, I don't think it is fair to charge a customer who has already paid it ONCE and was not told upfront of the potential additional charges. I definitely would not recommend as the service is less than cordial and the prices are outlandish! For this money, you can find better experiences in Carmel. read more

My husband and I went to Color Me Mine for a date night. We arrived at 6:30pm and we were told that they closed at 8pm. We were also told that we could come back if we didn't finish our projects. We chose our project and began. While in the middle of painting we realized that we would be charge ANOTHER $10.00 studio fee for our return of finishing our project. We hurried and we were able to finish our project with 15 minutes to spare. When we went to return to pick up our project, their web site AND sign on their door said that they were open until 8pm but it was 7:40 and no one was there. It's VERY frustrating to make the trip over to that side of town knowing they should have been open only to realize someone closed early forcing us to make yet another trip. Overall, BAD experience and wll NOT be returning. read more
