Leon and Nellie have been friends of my family for years (even longer than the decades we've been…read morecoming to New Hampshire), but somehow we'd never stayed at the Spruce Moose. Even without the familial connection, I'd be absolutely in love with this place. Family and friends gathered this past weekend for a memorial hike in honor of my dad, who passed in 2007. Leon and Nellie went out of their way to accommodate us, down to even offering additional rooms when some extra guests appeared and getting up extra early to make us to-go egg sandwiches we could take long on our hike up Mt. Washington. Both our group and the other guests at the Inn were treated like treasured friends in their home and it felt like a big old family reunion for us all. The Spruce Moose is the perfect location---a short walk to the adorable North Conway village, and a quick drive to countless hiking options. The decor makes you feel like you're visiting friends in a luxurious mountain home. Zeb and Avery, the two trusty labs, greet you at the door and will cuddle you on the couch for hours if you let them. The beds are comfy, and the rooms contain no tvs so you can truly enjoy the nature around you (though there IS wi-fi if you need your technology fix). Breakfast in the morning is delicious and filling. Tea and coffee are available at any time. It was an amazing weekend, in no small part to Leon and Nellie. I will be back to the Spruce Moose the next time I come to North Conway!

Avery and Jed are the most welcoming doggies, I was only with them for one night and I miss them terribly. The breakfast was excellent, coffee and tea are available all the time. My room was beautiful, the shower had great water pressure, and the lodge itself is super warm and cozy. I honestly felt like I was visiting relatives I just hadn't met yet.

(Dirty room, vowed never again to try to sleep there after the night Innkeeper told us to just sleep on top of the covers because she isn't housekeeping.) Anyhoo, I'd heard they do breakfast for the public and that there may possibly be new owners so we went back to give it a. Try. We walked past the front desk with an old man on the phone who didn't even look up. Then we wandered around looking for the host stand while some old lady vacuumed. No greet, no welcome, she just kept vacuuming while we tried to figure out how to get a table. No one bothered to help, say hello or even acknowledge that they could see us so we left. Seriously, forget this place. They clearly don't care to stay in business. Update: just to make sure I wasn't losing my mind after this response, it literally says breakfast on your sign by the road and you have a breakfast menu on your website. AND there were people in the dining room eating soooooo, what am I misunderstanding? Never mind. Good luck.

We were going to get drinks, and then head over to our reservation at a different restaurant. Upon entering the building, we found the lounge and were greeted by a hostess, who informed us we could sit anywhere. We chose a cozy-looking rounded couch near the fire. When I sat down, I noticed the table in front of us was covered with drinks from a previous party. There was also a menu left over from them. I decided to ignore this and we picked up the menu to look at what drinks they offered. I wish I could say something about what the drinks tasted like or their quality, but the only thing we consumed here was the air we breathed. We were pretty much ignored the entire 20-30 minute period that we sat on that couch. The only sort of acknowledgment we got was from a girl that came in with big plates of food, asking different patrons if they ordered the meal she was holding. She asked us and two other groups before walking out with the food. I understand how busy it can get, and I would have been okay with waiting longer if we had been greeted by the bartender. Saying something like "Hey guys, I'll be right with you." May seem small and insignificant, but it lets the customer know that you see them and will be back to take care of them. We ended up going to The Wentworth, where they also have a bar/cocktail lounge. The waitress was very busy running around with plates, but she said hello and made us feel welcome. Ever since we went to Stonehurst Ive been reading over reviews, and there are so many things I was shocked to see. The price of a stay is way too expensive for the type of feedback this place is getting. I hope things change so that people can enjoy this historic location once more.

There were 10 of us, adults and one of us, as we planned was going to sleep on a pull out couch. The bedrooms had only beds for 9 ppl. However sheets were not provided and when I called to ask for sheets that first night we arrive, they said that they would have them for us in the morning. Ok, but how does it comfortably fit 10, when someone needs to sleep on the bare sofa let alone for 12 ppl. When I kept insisting that the sheets are delivered tonight, the person on the phone said, he is asking me to leave and he will refund my money. This was extremely rude. Especially since THREE OF US WERE PREGNANT!! I told him that I have paid for the house and I am not going anywhere in the cold night. Was he insane?? The next morning one of us saw a mouse in the house and we let the cleaning lady know. Again the response was she is not responsible for this. Ok then, who is. There were a couple of other mice spotted until the end of our stay, and we had to share the house with them. If it wasn't for the rude attitude of the 'top notch' team I would say that other than being old, the house was ok. And this is the first time we had had such an awful experience renting a house.

The office staff is not good about responding and if you call the emergency number, it just goes to voice mail. Very disappointed in the office and would not rent with them again.

Dan & Nancy even gave us a couple extra restaurants to try (as in late fall, most are open only Thurs.-Sun.) Extra kudos there. Three years ago, we came across the b&b as we went next door to the Covered Bridge Shop and purchased a few things. In 18 days, we saw so much of what New England had to offer but my family and I all agree that the Covered Bridge House was one of our highlights on the trip. Hands down. It's located right in front of the Saco river, which made our stay 10x better. The location is not next to the hustle and bustle of North Conway, but close enough to drive if your looking for attractions and more dinning options nearby. Also, conveniently located to Crawford's Notch. We loved the location because it was quiet and peaceful. From the decor to the comfort of the bedrooms, everything was perfect. The rooms are warm & inviting, with antiques but not outdated. The beds were very comfortable. My husband couldn't stop raving about the breakfast and how everything was so well put together. Everything was delicious and not your typical same ol' boring continental breakfast everyday. The food was fresh and cooked to perfection. We miss starting our day here before a long day of hiking and exploring the White Mountains, we felt spoiled! The owners Nancy & Dan were exceptional. Their service and hospitality is some of the best we've ever experienced. We couldn't have been more grateful for everything. A lot of B&B's do not welcome children, so naturally this place stood out from all the rest as we had our two kids with us. Thank you so much, Nancy and Dan. You two are one of kind. We hope to visit again in the future!!!
