What a cute place! You wouldn't expect it to be that great with the outside looking more like a house but the inside, including decor, staff, and food are all great! Our server was so sweet, I wish I remembered her name. She was very accommodating and kind to my baby. She was knowledgeable and did everything in a timely manner. I do wish she would've let me know my salad I asked for as an app could be included with my two sides though (at least that's what I thought.) All of the staff were very nice and I loved that there weren't people ready to clear our table. Such a nice touch! The inside was also super casual. Although casual, the food and dishes were fancy. We came in later in the evening and even though it was still busy, we were seated right away and ordered chicken chunks for an appetizer. We tried them with all 3 sauces, honey mustard, ranch and bbq. I liked all of them! I don't eat seafood but my husband loves it! I had their chicken Alfredo which comes with salad and vegetable on the side, green beans. He ordered the tuna with baked potato. OK, I go to the Seafood regularly, and one reason is the bartenders, Jake and Dylan. They have fun, and they do a great job keeping your drink fresh. The food is always good, but keep in mind, we are on Lake Erie here, not Maryland or Maine. I always recommend the fish that comes from local lakes and rivers, and that local fish is always great, and always perfectly prepared. Their flown-in Florida grouper and mahi, and is good too. Of course, they have Maryland-style crabcakes and lobster rolls on the menu, but that's not local, and if you are expecting what you got in Baltimore or Bangor, you may be disappointed. They also serve excellent onion rings as an app. With dinner I recommend the generous garden salad with beets. Their clam chowder and lobster bisque is great as well. read more

Stopped in for Friday night fish dinner. Very small establishment and it was full. Instead of waiting for a table, we chose to sit at the bar for dinner. I am guessing to have the walk room needed to get behind people seated at the bar and the booths in the same area, they decided to short the top surface of the bar, not providing much comfort when dining at the bar unless your legs are quite flexible (mine aren't). We ordered the grilled blackened grouper and the sesame crusted seared ahi along with side salads and mixed veggies (cauliflower and broccoli). Salad was decent size. My grilled blackened grouper was explained as a very nice sized portion - when it was presented, I was not too thrilled. The grouper was maybe 4 - 5 ounces at the most. Sorry, but when this portion was explained as a very nice sized portion and you plate up an appetizer, I am disappointed. The cauliflower broccoli veggie medley was all chopped to about 1/2 inch pieces - not impressive. When we usually order seared ahi, it is just that; seared and raw practically to the outer edge. For whatever reason, seared raw, was not seared raw in our estimation. Fish was not like "butter" when you have sushi grade seared ahi. The Wasabi aoli dipping sauce was quite good. All in all, and sadly, we were not overly impressed. Will search out other alternatives for Friday baked/grilled fish dinner. read more

My reservation was delayed, and when we sat at our table, we had to wait 10 minutes to get someone to take our appetizer, and then another 30 to get our entrees in. This would have been fine if it didn't take over an hour to get our food. The steak was burnt when asked for a medium, and the meat looked of poor quality and tasted spoiled with a consistency of hamburger meat. Went there last Saturday night. The reservation was for 8 of us at 6:30. We arrived on time and the table wasn't ready. The poor hostess was so apologetic. She explained that their intention was to seat us at a table that originally arrived at 5:00 and they hadn't left. From the looks of it, they weren't about to leave either. She really felt awful, but she explained everything very well and it wasn't the restaurant's fault in any way. I told her we would grab a seat at the bar and when something was available, we'd take it. Wouldn't you know it, something opened up in about 20 minutes! The restaurant also took great care of us!!! the bartender made us some wonderful drinks and went out of her was to ensure we were all set and happy. Really nice they cared so much. Anyway, we were seated, and the waitress quickly took our order for apps, drinks, etc. The apps came out very quickly, drinks were delivered, etc. BTW, the place was SLAMMED!!! We do go to this place quite a bit and I can't recall seeing it this busy in a loooooooong time. The coordination between the dining room, bar and kitchen doesn't just happen. Cudos to the staff for a great experience on such a busy night! I ordered a few orders of onion rings for the table and someone else ordered the calamari. Excellent! If you like onion rings, it would be a crime to go here and not get an order. Very thick slices of onions, batter dipped and fried to perfection. They serve them with a cocktail sauce with lots of horseradish and another sauce that looks like ranch, but I was told it's not. I didn't try it as I just like salt on my rings! The calamari was perfectly cooked. Not at all chewy or fishy. My only quibble is the pieces could have been a little larger, but still, a wonderful plate of calamari. From the looks of it, we ordered fried catfish (seriously, best thing on the menu), salmon and I think a few seafood platters. Most of us chose salads or coleslaw, but one person chose the French Onion soup and said it was great. Oh, I think another person ordered the lobster bisque and it looked amazing too (they were at the other end of the table, so I didn't get a chance to ask). The entrees were perfectly cooked and served piping hot. If you want a great fish dinner, you can't go wrong. It's local, it's clean, it's been around for over 60 years, the people are amazingly friendly and will bend over backwards to make you happy! They make a darn good cocktail too and they have some great drink specials throughout the weeknights (go through the back door to see the weeknight drink specials!). read more

Excellent selection of various seafood dishes and all family favorites! First time here. The fact that they have Lake Erie perch is what drew me in! The first iced tea was great; fresh, not too much ice. Perfect strength! However, it got refilled from the pitcher (of an obviously older vintage). I don't like surprises. Our server didn't do it-she had assistance from someone else. Yuk! The bread and breadsticks was a nice nostalgic touch which I appreciated. I'm already convinced that I'll be back. (Stick around-I'm still reporting). The tables are smartly placed to allow maximum seating and private conversations. Narrow bench/booth area for two. And table-areas for four to a dozen? (Maybe even more). I can see why they are popular. UPDATE : Our server switched out my tea and dumped the pitcher of the aged iced tea. The coleslaw is creamy, cold, and fresh! Oh, we also split a shrimp cocktail (7shrimp) and ordered some onion rings. The baked potato was good (not special). The iced tea was very good. The scallops were very good and were served with drawn butter. The onion rings were excellent and the taste of the mild onion was not masked by the coating. I loved the perch! The home fries were generous and are available with (or without) onion added. Mine were without. Very good food. We had a great time. We spent just less than $100.00 and tried what interested us. Wow The Seafood you did it again... here with many of the same people as last time and we loved it... the place was packed but not overly noisy. We got the Perch, Lobster Bisque (yay we came on a Friday) , and onion rings. Mom LOVED the onion rings and the sauces. I loved the bisque... big chunks of lobster in a not-too-heavy cream base. The perch was exactly as we remembered... it's not on the menu as blackened anymore but they did it for us anyway. She got lobster roll n fries. I got perch n slaw. The calamari was rubber. Not cooked right. My perch was very good. Slaw ok, looked like supplier made but still good. Her fries were good too. The lobster roll was a letdown. I get we're not in Maine but it sure could have been better. No lobster chunks. All purée. And incredibly salty. She couldn't finish it. I took a few bites but quit. Fabulous local seafood spot that may look like a hole in the wall from the outside, but is anything but! Definitely a gem inside with fabulous/friendly service, a plethora of food/alcoholic and nonalcoholic drink choices, and an even better value for the incredible food you get. Between my husband and I we had several alcoholic/NA drinks, a crab cake appetizer, 2 entrees (mahi mahi & seafood capellini -- both which came with a salad & veggie side included), & we both got a cup of the New England clam chowder for around $80. Fresh bread served complimentary with your food order as well. Not a huge restaurant inside, but very clean/cute inside and the staff was all extremely nice/polite and they were always quick to clear empty/dirty dishes, top off glasses, and assess if you needed anything else or were satisfied with your meal. I encourage you to look and see how many 4 and 5 star ratings I've given. I'm actually pretty easy to please for the most part. Lord...where to start. I guess I should start by saying that the waitress and hostess were both nice, and it's possible they were short staffed, but at some point it's hard not to lose patience...unless you like spending over 90 minutes in a restaurant just...waiting. Waiting for a drink, waiting for food...waiting and wondering "Gee, I wonder why the host gave us 2 small plates?" I had over and hour and a half to realize that the other waitress's tables all had bread. We never got bread. Bread...would have been AMAZING to have while we waited. I spent most of the evening wondering what kind of bread they had. Alas..I guess I'll never know. I did get a French onion soup which was good. This was followed by the house salad which was not good. It had about 25 beets in it and no cheese. When the entree finally arrived...underwhelming is the best word i can think of. I got lake perch...5 tiny pieces, with basically no seasoning. Bland. Was it good? I mean..i love perch, so it was fine. Was it memorable? No. It was bland. I got a baked potato, which was literally JUST a potato. I paid extra for sour cream. And my waitress actually asked me "did you need butter for your potato?" I'm guessing (because i spent a good portion of the over 90 minutes waiting, longingly watching the other tables eat their bread to pass the time...) that the baskets with bread had butter in them, so they are probably used to butter already being on the table. Alas...our table did not. So "yes...i will need butter for my baked potato." My dinner companion got shrimp and scallops and the word they used to describe them: "rubbery". If this restaurant was cheap...ok, fine, don't expect 5 star. But it is not in fact cheap...it's actually pretty steep. I almost got surf and turf, but saw it was $80 and decided to just get the $26 perch. $26...for 5 small pieces of fish, a potato with no butter and a salad that tasted like beets. Been going to The Seafood for over 30 years. They have had some rough patches but have turned around and have been a "go to" neighborhood place for years. No more. Tonight was one of the worst meals and experience we have had. I know, you don't go to a seafood restaurant and order liver and onions, but it was a favorite and when they stopped serving it the must have got enough complaints, they decided to bring it back. We got served cold almost raw liver with no onions. Long wait. Server was very apologetic and offered to have it cooked more. Another long wait am now burnt shoe leather served again with no onions. Server took off of the bill. Bourbon glazed salmon salad used to be a feast. Now it as a small portion served in a small bowl. Salmon actually cooked the salad below and made it a soggy mess. For $22.50 should have been so much more. Server said they are now closed on Sunday because they can't find cooks. Obviously the can't find cooks even when they are open. I'd really like to start with my star rating; it really gets a 2.5 star rating. My compliments to the wait staff. Good job. The food was a bit less complimentary. I really thought the clam chowder was good but it's really hard to mess up clam chowder. I had a Caesar salad with grilled salmon. Let's start with the dressing. I expected real Caesar dressing. You know, the kind made with egg yolks and sardines. When I asked if they used sardines, they said sure! Well, what I got was sardines laid on top of a bed of romaine and croutons with some shaved Parmesan cheese and the "Caesar" dressing on the side. Not the real deal. The salmon came dried with a slight amount of seasoning. I am disappointed. The restaurant is wayyyyy overpriced. One lobster tail is $42.50 Another person in our party was going to order lobster but, the price...really?! A filet minion is $34, which is pretty pricey, but I guess they have to pay the mortgage somehow. I didn't take pics because it was so unimpressive. read more

When I walked in the door I was instantly transported to a neighborhood restaurant in my childhood. It was 1952 again and I was in a small family owned restaurant that was a favorite in the blue collar neighborhood of my youth. Everybody knew everybody because they were neighbors or worked in the same factory or workplace. The Seafood Restaurant on Alexis in Sylvania is just like that and the home cooked style food is excellent. No frills or fancy French sauces but basic food done well. It took them awhile to serve the soups/salads/cole slaw and the entrees so I would recommend getting an appetizer if bread can't hold you over... on the flip side we were definitely full by the time our entrees came. The seafood queso was de-licious! We inhaled them w/ the warm chips (nice touch)! Even used some of the pretzel sticks that came with the bread basket. The clam chowder had legit clam in it, and the salads were large portions. Although we were full before entrees arrived, we charged through. The entrees were good- cajun seasoned red snapper with hash browns and onions, grouper fish sandwich with fries, multiple fried perch with fries, baked potato, and sweet potato fries. The whole meal took two hours. On a normal day that would be too slow, but none of us minded for Mother's Day. I've been to this place many times. Best clam chowder and lobster bisque that you will ever have. Generally very positive about this location and how they've stepped up their game on their crabcakes. I still think there is a disdain for constructive criticism. My fish was fried with a nice batter, but they left a pool of grease on the plate which messed up the crispness of the batter. Both this time and the last time I was here, the waitress seemed defensive about my constructive criticism which was observational and not negatively presented. This is a very good, unpretentious restaurant which is focused just on the food. If you're looking for a hip, trendy place, this certainly isn't it, nor is it known for its ambiance, not having been updated much in a long time. But if you want good basic seafood, you have come to the right place. They have a very large menu, all sorts of different fish, oysters, clam strips, Alaskan crab legs, etc. It's surprising the wide variety of things they have, and they seem to have lots of specials all the time too. The sides are basic, but good. The house salads were basic, but large and good. They do come with beets on them though, which I have to remember to have excluded. My wife had clam strips, and they were quite good. We seem to have trouble finding good clam strips, but these were. The service is good and friendly. So to get a good seafood diner, at a very reasonable price, give them a try. read more
