Local-ish.

After years and years of consistently great food... and great drinks... and great service... and great atmosphere... Ciao still rates 5 stars! I've never had a bad, or even sub-par meal. The food is definitely worth the calories, not to mention the money. Still and forever Ciao is the WORLD'S best Italian restaurant...that was formerly a Frisch's Big Boy.

House salad- very fresh and generous portion

I was recently here with friends for a cozy dinner on a chilly icy evening. The ambiance at Ciao is very comfortable and relaxed, so it was perfect for a girls' night out. Our server was superb! She was very friendly, relatable and cool. When we commented that we were surprised the restaurant didn't offer filtered water or even bottled water, she agreed with us that it didn't make sense in an upscale restaurant like Ciao- as opposed to the manager's more defensive reaction. Her overall demeanor was very chill while professional and efficient. By the way, they did offer San Pellegrino sparkling water at a price, of course. Our dinners were excellent! Our salads preceding our meal were very fresh and more than you would expect from a basic salad. I had a chicken Alfredo entree light on the sauce and it was perfectly delicious. My other friends opted for a fish special and both raved about it. Pictures of our dinners are posted below. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Food was delicious. Server Hanna was excellent as well! Atmosphere was just ok. No complaints and would definitely be back!

Get the Alfredo da Tavola delicious! It's enough for two or more to share as an appetizer. Always great service with inventive Italian courses. Old school dark, cozy and romantic.

We started with the fried ravioli as an appetizer, which was decent. We attended during happy hour with live music, and while the music was enjoyable, the rest of the experience fell short. The server was polite but largely absent, and when she was available, her demeanor wasn't particularly friendly. I ordered the Alfredo with broccoli but wasn't able to get Parmesan until about 10 minutes into the meal. Both the espresso martini and the Cosmopolitan were of low quality, which added to the disappointment. The food, while visually appealing, lacked flavor. To make matters worse, there was an unpleasant smell of urine near the bathrooms, which was off-putting. This was my first visit, and sadly, it left such a poor impression that I don't plan to return. In fact, we ended up leaving and heading to another restaurant for dessert and drinks because the experience here just wasn't satisfying.

If you're looking for a fancy dinner out with a cozy atmosphere this is your spot! Staff is always on it and so is the food. Not much room for substitutions but their are enough choices for everyone, maybe not for kids though.

Has a great experience overall at this restaurant. Our appetizers fell as little flat (calamari wasn't crispy and pizza was supposed to have mushrooms) but still were eaten and enjoyed by the table. The real star was the cheese wheel experience, which both looked and tasted excellent. As was the bolognese and dessert. Very affordable and great warm staff made this a must recommend. FYI, there's also a bar area for a more casual hang out and live music.

I had the most amazing birthday dinner at Ciao today!!! This was my first time here and I ordered the table side Alfredo. holy smokeesssss - how was this only $24.99!? Our server Eddie was fantastic- super friendly, quick, knowledgeable, and made our dining experience spectacular. Honestly, I'm going to be thinking about this dinner for WEEKS. The fried ravioli... the fresh bread... the CREAMY GARLIC SALAD DRESSING. UGH!! The restaurant had an upscale vibe but was also comfortable and cozy at the same time. The chicken decor made me feel like I was back at my great-aunt's kitchen. Today's experience was fantastic and we are so excited to come back! PS- If you dine on your birthday, ask about the birthday discount.

We didn't really like anything during our visit. We came and sat in the bar area for happy hour and live music. The live music was nice, they sounded good. On the downside the martinis we ordered were not good. The food was not good and the service was not good. They are way overpriced for what they're offering. We had the wait at least ten minutes into our meal before our server came around to ask for Parmesan. At any other Italian place they bring it with the food and ask right away. Told manager nothing was really good when he asked and he just got aggressive and took my food since "I didn't like it" and didn't give any discount. I may have had a few more bites but that's okay he saved me from eating the disgusting food they prepared. They're so many other great restaurants in the same price category. Ciao is just simply low-quality, overpriced food.

Ciao has excellent food! A great place for a free birthday meal. The table-side Alfredo is amazing! The filet was also top notch. The service is good, but their policy for reservations stink. You must call an hour and a half before the time needed. Even if there are tables available they will only seat you in the bar without a reservation. They don't open for lunch so you really need to make the reservation the day before. The ambiance is nice, but could use a little update. Maybe some bright white Italian pottery and get rid of the fake grape vines and bad art. Overall, a great experience.

I remember when Ciao opened. I was in high school, and it was a great location to have dinner on prom night. 30 years later, and it still fits that bill. The atmosphere is friendly and approachable, if not outdated, and the menu follows suit. Everything is textbook elevated American Italian fare, with very few risks being taken. The quality and execution are high, and the service is attentive and welcoming. As with all the restaurants involved with "Main Street Ventures" you'll find some issues, like the clunky and slightly malfunctioning digital menus, but overall, Ciao is a wonderfully predictable restaurant, perfect for a very casual evening out with friends or family.

Been coming here for years, great staff, I always dine at the bar which has a nice atmosphere, and the filleto de Manzo is amazing!

On my last visit, we dined on the patio (which would have been too chilly today). Inside the dining room, I noticed that the booths had drapes that were pulled back on each side. However, I would imagine the drapes could be set loose to create an intimate dining experience for dinner. The ambiance is sophisticated and comfortable at the same time, with Italian accents and artwork. Last time here, I vowed to try their pizza. However, I had pizza yesterday for dinner and opted for a high protein dish of Chicken Piccata. I must give high praise to our server Sheldon. He was the absolute epitome of how to serve a large group with efficiency and good humor. He knew exactly how to "stage" a large group photo far better than I could have attempted given the table setting. He was also extremely organized in taking our orders and serving them to the right people. Let's gush about the food now. A number of our group enjoyed the Mama's Bread appetizer, which looked like cheese bread with a garlic flavor, served with a zesty tomato dipping sauce. That's how it was described and definitely looked delicious. (I didn't try it because I was saving myself for my entree.) We waited a reasonable amount of time for our meals, given the number of people in our party. Sheldon had told me ithe Children Piccata was his favorite entree so I had high hopes. It looked delicious and I was very hungry. Since I tend to order Chicken Piccata at various restaurants, I had a base of comparison. It was a generous portion of chicken served over angel hair pasta, with artichoke hearts and mushrooms. It was very tasty and yet I had hoped for a bit more lemon flavor. It was delicious nonetheless, but more oily than my preference. Again, I thoroughly enjoyed it and took home leftovers, but these factors detracted somewhat from the meal. I tried my best to take pictures of my friends' meals without being too obnoxious, but didn't catch a picture of the Shrimp Risotto that one friend raved about. Another positive comment about Sheldon's professionalism is that he provided us separate checks and kept our checks/credit cards straight. Our experience at Rosie's was very impressive and I highly recommend this restaurant! But be sure to make reservations because it's an understably popular restaurant, even mid-day. Can only imagine the dinner crowd!

Went there Saturday with family and friends. What a great night!…read more Two of us had the lasagna and it was incredible. This isn't the usual lasagna. It's similar to what you know, but different! I bet it had 10 layers. The sauce was definitely made in-house. Not too sweet, not too bitter/sour. The one thing that's different with Calvino's is I couldn't detect or find any ricotta cheese, and I didn't miss it. It was a very generous portion, and it was perfectly cooked. No dry pasta or burned edges. I opted to add some Italian sausage which was the perfect addition. The other person who ordered this added sausage and ground beef and said that his was perfect. Either way, you can't go wrong! Another person at our table ordered the butternut squash ravioli. She was kind enough to let me try a piece and it was absolutely amazing! She ordered it with the olive oil and garlic sauce, which was the perfect pairing. This was as good or better than the butternut squash ravioli at Martini's in Columbus. The pasta had great texture (definitely fresh pasta) and the filling wasn't gluey in any way (this filling can have a tendency for textural issues). I'm definitely ordering it on my next visit! Someone ordered the chicken and pesto sandwich and raved about it. The last person at the table ordered the linguine with olive oil, garlic and mushrooms and again, it was perfection. All entrees were served with bread (ahhhh, those great little nuggets of fresh baked bread, drizzled in butter and sprinkled with cheese...) and a really nice, fresh salad. I would bet that the dressings are all homemade too! From past experience I can attest to the stromboli being outstanding (get the Godfather!)! The pizzas going by the table looked pretty amazing too, but I've not had their pizza. Appearances can be deceiving, but from the looks of the pies and quantity of people ordering them, they have to be pretty great too. Calvino's does not have a full bar, but they do have an extensive wine selection and some nice beers to choose from. If everyone at the table is ordering wine, go for the bottle as it will save you money. They have some really nice, inexpensive wines that pair very well with pasta - you won't break the bank on wine (but you could...)! All in all, it was a great night! The bill for the two of us came to $55.00 (that's including the tip)! The service was great, the food was outstanding - the best Italian meal I've had in Toledo, hands down.

The ambiance is now very contemporary with a nod to the Italian cuisine it serves. It's a very pleasant environment for dining. The complimentary bread and seasoned oil were delicious. My friend ordered a thin crust pepperoni pizza which looked amazing. I ordered Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken with the Alfredo sauce on the side... So glad I did, as the Alfredo sauce was like a very watery soup. Also, the entire entree' was lukewarm. Our server immediately took it back and returned with a much thicker and delicious Alfredo sauce and warmer entree'. Kudos to our server who re-maid the sauce himself! While I didn't mention anything about the noodles, they weren't very soft- not al dente', but a texture that was sort of rubbery as if pre-made- but were much better with new Alfredo sauce and warmed up chicken with the fettuccine. Every staff member we encountered was very friendly and personable. No issues at all with the service; in fact, it was excellent. My friend took home the leftovers of pepperoni pizza, and it was a generous portion. As for my Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, I ate out the chicken, which was perfectly grilled and delicious. I didn't want to take home the remaining fettuccine or sauce. While the re-maid sauce was delicious, the fettuccine noodles were a texture not to my liking. My overall rating is 4 stars based on the above comments. In the past (a number of years back), I had enjoyed the Chicken Caprese entree and would likely order it again next time. I would return to this restaurant and recommend it with caution as to what to order. Overall, it was a nice experience on a chilly night in Michigan.

Item 2: Regardless of what you call it, I love this place, and have since the 1970s. This place is a little neighborhood hole-in-the-wall, and I don't think the decor has changed since the 1970s (literally). Who says that's a bad thing? GYROs: Bottom line is that this is some of the BEST tasting gyro meat I've ever eaten. Period. It's flavored to perfection, and cooked to juicy yet crisp perfection, also. I have no idea what spices they add to the lamb/beef mixture (nutmeg? cumin? cinnamon?) but it has a unique and delicious flavor. This is the first place where, as a little kid, I ever ate a gyro, and they still make one of the best. (Not that my ethnic background matters, but I am Greek, and I've eaten a lot of gyros in a lot of cities and countries). If this is not the best, it's damned close to it. The chicken kabobs are excellent too. When I feel like eating something with more protein and less fat, this is my go to. These are fantastically seasoned and grilled perfectly every time. They come with rice or fries, and some veggies. The Greek salads are next level. They are large, well presented, well put together, and come with a BIG ASS SLAB of feta cheese. The homemade Greek dressing is not the best I have ever had, but it is more than serviceable. Pizza? Oh yeah, the pizza.... J & G,s thin crust pizza is also excellent. The flavor of the sauce is more traditional than what you will find at Amie's or Gino's, and therefore, may appeal to a wider range of tastes. I'd stick with the more basic toppings. To drink, they have milk and pop for the kids, and beer and wine for the adults. In case you haven't guessed, their wine list includes retsina and mavrodaphne. Obviously, as the place is also Upside Brewing, they have a pretty nice selection of beer. Upside has a few taps, and multiple taps from other local and regional brew houses are available. They do get busy, but we've never had unacceptably slow or rude service.
