The Mediterranean pizza was excellent but the service was horrible. On Friday we called at 5:48 for a large Mediterranean pizza the lady said it would be 40 mins. I arrived at 6:25 and payed then I was told they're just putting it in now and it would be 40 minutes we received it at 7:10. If I hadn't paid I would have walked out also 3 other carry out orders were taken care of. This is the second time in a row that this has happened. We sat down In The dining room around 8pm....got our first round of drinks at 8:40pm. They were NOT busy. (2 beers. And a soda). Now that Im not ticked off, I ll write this review. Waited quite a while at the please wait to be seated sign. The bartender kept shouting every few min "Someone will be right there." Finally, a manager (Im guessing) in plain clothes had pity on us and sat us down. Now she is 2 of the stars because she was very nice. She did tell us that she was not a server. Took her 15 min for 3 drinks and I went to the bar n asked the bartender for menus. Asked for a beer menu and it is no more. I hate squinting at taps So after we ordered an appetizer from the manager, she finally rounded up a server for us. Took about 30 min for appetizer. Cheesy garlic bread was good. Now we made our own pizza and 1 person ordered a calzone. Pizza was half veggie n other half chicken. It was eh. Sauce was not flavorful at all. Chicken was dry.I ate one piece and have leftovers in the fridge. The calzone was mostly dough n light on toppings per my sis n law. Third star is for the Maumee Bay Amarillo ipa. We try to check out and the credit card machine is down for about 10 minutes. I was so ready to get the heck out of there I left my leftovers. Manager chased me out the door with it. Food taste like it is pre packaged. Tasted better pasta from Frishes Big Boy. Waitress doesn't seem to know how to supply table with utensils, napkins. After serving the food doesn't return to make sure we're okay. I think it's more of a bar than restaurant. read more

Great pizza sauce flavor and extra cheese! Also a nice crust that carries the multitude of yummy toppings to your mouth with just enough structure to accomplish the task ! I made my own original creation of ham, pineapple, Italian sausage and Greek olives. I brought two friends that were new to Capers and their comments were Great Pizza and we need to bring our adult kids here. We enjoyed their selection of bottled and " on tap" brews also. We visited Capers on a Sunday evening. The friendly service greeted us right away and sat us where ever we liked. We ordered the "nibs" which are their pizza dough cut into pieces and baked. Nothing too great or to write home about, but fulfilled the need for an appetizer. We both ordered a 12" pizza. One with roasted red pepper, bacon, & spinach. Very tasty. We prefer thin bubbly crusts, so these were not that. The other pizza was the Mediterranean. And also very tasty. Crust is on the doughy side and the toppings were very generous. All around good flavor and proportions were right. Nice beer selection but only one IPA. We had Stone Pataskala Red X IPA. Overall, it was a descent experience and we would go back to try additional items on the menu. read more

Probably some of the worst service I've ever had last night. Six of us and all of our food came out at separate times, like 20 minutes apart... Then the bill came... Outraged is the word I would use to describe how upset I was. They charged three dollars per topping, three dollars for bacon and three dollars for onion... When was the last time somebody went to the grocery store and paid the exact same amount for those ingredients? Then another person in our party had half toppings on their pizza and were only charged $.90, when I asked why, "because they only had it on half of their pizza" which if anyone went to school, they know that $.90 is NOT half of $3.00... Capers has really good pizza, just as all the other reviewers state. Their beer selection is really good too, as well as being very reasonably priced. I tried the Great Lakes Chill Wave and the New Belgian Lips of Faith w/coconut and curry when I was there. Both were exceptional, and they were between $4 and $5 a glass, which is a really good price considering what you'd pay by the bottle. Capers has cheap, quality craft beer and great pizza. So so sad. We have been wanting to go here for years and finally did. We met another couple here for dinner. We ordered drinks. I received my iced tea pretty fast with out any sugar or sweetener offered and the server was off before I could say anything. My wife had to wait for her wine. My iced tea looked like water in the dark red plastic cup. When I tasted it, it had a weird taste most likely from dirty pop gun or dispenser and there was little tea flavor. I asked the server and she said that they ran out of the tea the night before. I didn't understand why you would still send out something you don't have. A tiny hint of tea particles in a fountain line with water doesn't cut it. We ordered appetizers. I ordered the mussels. $10.95. When they came, they looked good but smelt a bit fishy. They were steamed and tossed with a little marinara. They were lukewarm and tasted old. I have a terrible thing of eating things even if they taste crappy to understand the cooking process and ingredients. My wife finally made me have them removed because they stunk. We ordered Spaghetti with Meatballs. $10.95 It was a normal portion, not large portion of spaghetti and sauce with two meatballs. The meatballs were so soggy where they just fell apart and were so overpowered with oregano. It wasn't too bad. The garlic toast that came with it was cold and stale. I ordered a Spinach Calzone with spinach, tomatoes, artichokes, garlic, olive oil & light cheese. I requested to add chicken which the server happily wrote down. When I received it, there was no chicken. When I asked the server she said, "No there is chicken, I even wrote it down". I opened it to show her. She was surprised and said it should have because she wrote it down and rang in the chicken. She then said I will get some chicken and the manager will take care of the cost of the chicken. While I waited 25 minutes for a piece of grilled chicken I decided to taste the calzone and what a bland mess. With chicken added I felt the the flavor would make an improvement. I finally got two plastic cups with diced chicken for my now cold meal. I tasted the chicken and it was even more band than my meal. I was embarrassed because now I felt picky and I really am not. I will eat anything. We sent it back and the server came up and said, ' The manager removed the calzone". Now by now I would have thought the manager would have been over to talk to us. It want busy so no reason not to make this a better situation. If I ever was forced to go back by gunpoint, I would just let the person shoot me so I could enjoy a better meal at a hospital. If you need to go here I would reluctantly say, go here to drink and buy a pizza if you plan on getting drunk. Don't go here for Italian food. Well I am finished writing. my stomach is rumbling most likely due to the fishy mussels. Response to the owner's comment; Emily, The manager working that day should have come to our table since we had multiple issues. Your manager was clearly not there in your best interest or just lacks leadership skills possibly due to no development. We frequent locally owned restaurants to support them. I write reviews for them. Your food quality and service just wasn't there. I write the actual experience both good and sometimes bad in hopes that operators will improve on what they do. Yelp reviews have saved me time and money, keeping me from going to establishments because of their guest comments. We have also gone to new places even though someone left an unwarranted bad review. We went for a special wine tasting which was scheduled on Oct. 24. I was previously given a gift card for $10 for the wine tasting with the list of dates. The card said five wines for $10. I gave the gift card to the waitress. She said the wine tasting was $15! So my husband and I paid $30 for the wine tasting. The list of five wines showed them all to be $15 a bottle. So we could have bought two bottles for what we paid for a tasting. We got 5 wine pours that basically equaled one glass of wine! We have had the exact same wines at the Kroger wine bar for 25 cents a pour! The wine steward gave no introduction or explanation about any of the wines. We overheard someone say they serve appetizers. After sitting for 45 minutes, some appetizers were brought out. Again no announcement. They were dough balls deep fried and very greasy. They had capreese skewers and Brussels sprouts also. My husband and I each ordered an 8 inch pizza for our dinner. Thanks to the new Apple measuring app, I could actually measure it, because they looked much smaller than 8 inches. My pizza was 5 1/2 inches in diameter. The plate it was on measured 7 inches across with a half inch lip on each side. Basically the plate accommodates a six inch pizza. It would be better to state personal sized pizza on the menu rather than giving an actual size. My spinach artichoke pizza tasted good. My husband got the Italian and said it was okay. The evening at a pizza bar was certainly not worth $50 for basically one glass of ordinary wine and a personal size pizza. We won't be going back. read more

Ok, so I have reviewed a lot of restaurants because I eat out alot. This was the first time after coming home from eating at a restaurant that both my wife and I became sick. My wife literally threw up once she walked in the door and I wasnt too far after. The food tasted good but there was something wrong with it that made us both sick. We recently moved into the neighborhood and have driven by this place hundreds of times without giving it a second glance, but my after my boyfriend's coworker raved about their pizza we had to give it a shot. Ordered a large Mediterranean pizza for carry out last week and it was awesome! Veggie toppings were not skimpy and really tasted fresh. The BF was also happy with their beer prices (he had a couple while he waited on the pizza) and is eager to go back again for their Monday before 6pm deal. This is a good place to stop in for a drink and lunch or dinner, a little off the beaten track in a older strip mall in a kind of backwater section of S. Toledo. Service can be a tad slow, but not awful. Decor is a bit dated. There's usually a good rotating selection of a mix of 6 or so craft and mainstream beers on tap, and I can always find at least one I like. Wines too. Plus a decently stocked full bar. The crowd is typically a bit older, maybe 30s-40s usually, and while they can get busy, it's never so loud that you have to shout to have a conversation with your table mates. There are some TVs, but thankfully it's not the kind of place where people typically go to watch a game and shout at the TV. Generally there's a good mix of classic rock on the sound system, loud enough to enjoy but not the main focus. A good mix for the age group that's usually there, myself included. There is a nice little shaded outdoor patio area to enjoy when the weather permits. The food is decent and pretty reasonably priced. I've had many of their specialty pizzas and sandwiches and all have been good. The Mediterranean and "Ultimate Pepperoni" pizzas are especially good. And half-off pizza until 6PM can't be beat on weekdays. If they're busy, be prepared to wait a bit for your food. They do a lot of takeout business as well. The bar and wait staff are always friendly in my experience. All in all, just a friendly, low-key place to unwind and get a good drink or two and a meal. Went with my spouse and kids on a Saturday night - Reviews on slow service were consistent with our experience. The server was very friendly and didn't make any mistakes, but was slow. This would be fine if your group/table is looking for a long meal to visit, etc., but not with 3 kids under 6 yrs old. Food was pretty good - Pizza is more thin crust than pan style, but was good. I got a New York style calzone that was pretty tasty, wife had a grilled chicken melt type sandwich that she said was very good, too. This would be great place to get together with friends, maybe a double date type night out where you want to catch a game or visit and not be be rushed. But if you are in a hurry or have young kids, may want to try some place else. Giving it 3 out of 5 due to lack of speed service. Had service been a little quicker, would be 4 for sure. read more

This was my first and last experience at this restaurant. I suggested this place for a group of 7 because Doc Watsons was closed for renovation. We ordered 3 salads, a flatbread a BLT, and 2 burgers. How could this take over 45 minutes to come out when there was only 1 table ahead of us and 5 tables of customers in the whole restaurant? Because of this, We were late for our training session and the manager came out to tell us they were short staffed and we only waited 20 minutes. No apology for our wait. She then- after one of us spoke up- gave us a 10% coupon for a next visit. Why would any of us go back when it's obvious you didn't appreciate our patronage, the food wasn't good and our waitress had a bloody wrist. I can't believe this place is still open. Caper's pizza is a great neighborhood joint. Not many Toledo restaurants offer vegetarian options, but I can always find good food.

In town from AZ visiting family and it was the first time eating at Caper's. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and told to sit wherever we liked. Menus were already on the table so we started looking right away. After about 20 minutes the server came to take drink orders. We also placed food order at that time since we had plenty of time to decide before the server got to us. Food took about another 45 minutes and the wrong pizza came out and the burger was dry/burnt. Waited for server to come back to let her know and after 20 minutes I just went to the bar because my beer was gone. Please don't get me wrong, the server was super sweet as well as apologetic. She was the only one working and was clearly struggling. Towards the end pf our visit, several more staff members came in and seemed to lift some of the burden off our poor server. My family member that lives very close to Capers and I (when in town) will not be back. read more
