5.0 Service, 4.25 Food My sister-in-law/friend treated me to dinner here tonight for my birthday. The ambiance is exactly as I remembered- Italian casual but quaint and comfortable. We were seated in a booth that allowed for private conversations. Our server was Frank and he was top notch! He consistently checked in with us in a very nice, helpful way. He shared that he also had experience working in the kitchen and tried most of the entrees, so it was great that he could offer that perspective when questioned about the menu choices. My friend ordered the Shrimp Al Forno with a chopped salad and I ordered the Seasonal Salmon with green beans and the smashed potatoes. Both entrees looked and tasted delicious. My friend's order was a huge portion of shrimp combined with pasta, mushrooms and cheese in a light cream-tomato sauce. She said it tasted lighter than it initially appeared and gave it the highest rating of 5 stars. My salmon was a generous portion with a slight bit of a cream dill sauce on top. The green beans and smashed potatoes provided the perfect delicious sides for the salmon. My first bite of the salmon had a slightly fishy taste but the combined green beans and potatoes balanced it out. I had recently eaten salmon at a restaurant in Toledo, OH where the salmon spoiled me, but this dish was also delicious (explaining a slight deduction of stars). Frank was fabulous in every way and we had a very enjoyable experience. The prices also seemed appropriate for the entrees. I should note that there are daily specials. Today was house wine for $4.50/glass. I ordered the Chardonnay but quickly exchanged it for a non Happy Hour upgraded wine and Frank very promptly remedied the situation and checked in to make sure I was satisfied-which I was. If you're in the Lambertville/Bedford area, it's a nice local option to have within a comfortable ambiance. Also, we both took home leftovers! Definitely recommend! Check out pictures! P.S. This restaurant only provides a complimentary birthday dessert if you dine on your exact birthday. I didn't really care, but my SIL asked, so it's worth noting. In contrast, some restaurants will give you a birthday dessert even if not celebrating on the exact day. While I didn't want dessert, it struck me as a missed opportunity on the restaurant's part. read more

We came here for a quick girls catch up. They had happy hour drinks for $4.99 and Monday's special was $8.99 pasta. I ordered that red wine sangria and was delighted by the flavors. We ordered the Brussels sprouts to start along with the absolute perfect bread and olive oil. That bread was amazing. We ordered our dinner and I had the spicy red and cream sauce pasta. Although this restaurant in Lambertville has been around for many years. But this was my first time eating there. While service was outstanding the food was not. I ordered the Lasagna and it not only was an extremely small portion but it lacked any taste. I guess I will have to stick with Rosie's in Toledo where I have never been disappointed. read more

I'd give them less than 1 star if I was able. By far, the absolute worst bartender. This evening we waited 16 min, at the bar, for even a water. The bartender had friends there. The other couple told her to wait on us 1st, as we had been waiting. She actually shrugged her shoulders, looked our way and continued to talk to her friends. We were floored, as we're her friends. Been here 4 or 5 times and this was not a good night for either of us. We showed up around 5:30 or so and quickly figured out it was homecoming. We were told it would be a 25 minute wait so we grabbed seats at the bar. A glass of wine for my dining partner and my impossibly elusive, can't be made, gin martini for me... WTF??? I requested a very, very dry Tanquery martini, on the rocks. My "bar tender" poured gin into a shaker along with a double pour of vermouth. I stopped her and asked her if she knew what "dry, on the rocks" implied? She said she did... I explained I was no longer interested in her version of "martini" and requested a glass of water instead. Seriously? I guess I could have just said, "gin on the rocks" but I didn't want to imply she didn't know how to do her job. She did mix my water correctly... After sitting at the bar, enjoying my water on the rocks, 30 minutes had gone by. I walked up to the maitre d's station and asked a young blonde gentleman how much longer it was going to be. He said, "we're really busy and we have a 45 minute wait." I pointed to my name on the list and explained I was told 25 minutes when we arrived. He shrugged. He shrugged... A young female came to us 5 minutes after "Captain can't tell time" told us another 45 minutes and took us to our table. We we're seated and the waitress came within a few minutes. We knew what we wanted and ordered right away, salads and pasta. 15 minutes later, pasta. No salads. Nice. We canceled the salads, but if we still wanted them she could get them in "to go" boxes for us. Wow, 2 caeser salads in carryout boxes at whatever price they were charging for lunch tomorrow? No chance they'd be wilted piles of $#*& by then... I had pasta with chicken and pesto. The pasta was underdone, there wasn't even a half breast worth of chicken and if that was pesto, it wasn't basil pesto. It was well made, but that was the worst pesto I've ever had. Maybe it was made with dried herbs or it was doctored up jarred pesto??? Anyway, what a miserable night. Crappy drinks, forgotten salads, a tasteless entree, useless maitre d and a general feel of "we're imposing." I would have left 1 star, but my dining partner liked her carbonara and her glass of wine. I need to learn to like wine. read more

Five stars based on great lunch menu prices! The bread and dipping oil was delicious. The chopped salad and Italian vinaigrette dressing was very tasty! Our server was very accommodating! The restaurant and bathrooms are very clean. If I travel through the area again, I will definitely stop by for lunch. read more

We have been hearing great things about Sidelines Italian, so when a friend suggested it, I was all in. Let's just say, it lived up to all the hype. I left so full because I couldn't stop eating my delicious pasta. I had the Pasta di Mare with a chopped salad and my friend had The Boot. She had to take a lot of it home. It could really be split between two people. Jamie was our server. She was amazing- super attentive to all of our needs even though the restaurant was packed. This was my 2nd time going there. The 1st time was not very impressive but that was over a year ago. This time the food, service and atmosphere were right on the spot. I love spaghetti and meatballs and Sideline's is very good. The chicken parmesan and bread is also really good. We had a pretty good size group but the waitress was on top of things and kept our glasses filled and the bread basket stocked too. If you're looking for great Italian food and don't want to travel far, try Sidelines. I will definitely return. read more

Let me preface by saying that I'm very critical of Italian food, as I have yet tasted any in Toledo that's as good as what I make myself at home, but I continue to search. To be fair, there are very few places anywhere that can compare to my lasagna, spaghetti or pizza. Having said that, the bread was amazing. The rest was lacking. I ordered The Boot, the combination sampler of lasagna, a meatball and chicken della casa, which is a "marinated chicken breast, lemon garlic sauce, charred tomatoes, capers and shaved parmesan". The lasagna was typical of many Italian restaurants. If you like it at other places you may like this. I didn't care for it much. The meatball was large, served in a cup that was just the right size for the meatball, but very little sauce. The chicken was slightly dry and again, very little sauce. On paper. It sounds delicious, the lemon garlic sauce with capers, but too few capers to go with just a smidge of sauce. I won't be back. read more

Since my birthday was in a few days I thought I would stop by to have a late lunch. I had never been to this place before and I'm sorry, but I was not impressed. I ordered the lasagna and it was terrible. I was served this huge mound of overcooked lasagna noodles with a glop of tasteless tomato goo on top. There was very little if any cheese that I could taste and the meat was a few tiny tasteless meatballs scattered thru it. The whole thing was so bland that I couldn't eat it. I asked for a box so I could take the mess home and hope I could doctor it up. Nope, nothing helped so I threw the nasty stuff away. I should have stayed home and eaten a bologna sandwich, which would have tasted better and been much cheaper then the $15.99 I paid for that disgusting mess they call lasagna. One thing is for sure I won't be going back to this place again. read more

Great place for dinner. We had (4) in our group and we're promptly helped by Addison. The complimentary bread/dipping oil was a big hit at our table. We ordered Chicken Parmigiana, The Boot, Rigatoni with Pomodoro sauce & Italian Sausage, and the Pork Tenderloin. Sides included the Misto salad, garlic smashed potatoes, herb linguine, and the lobster bisque. Two plates were cleaned, half of the chicken parm and The Boot were boxed for take home. Portions are good sized and reasonably priced for how much you get. The place was busy but not crowded and we never felt rushed. Addison did a great job of attending to our needs and made for a nice evening. No room for dessert, this time, but will be sure to save room on our next visit. Our server Ava was very professional and friendly. Prices were all pretty much between $12 and $20 for normal entrees. I went with the carbonara pasta and the chicken was burnt. There is a bar area as well as booth seating for a family friendly environment. The oil that is served with bread is already at every table before being seated which means it probably sits out all day until someone is seated there. This should be brought out when the bread is served for health/cleanliness purposes. read more

This is a hard review to write! I like to compare restaurants to other popular ones to give people an idea of what to expect but that really doesn't work this time because this place is but isn't comparable to other Italian restaurants and here's why. It is comparable in price, menu selection, quantities, quality, service, etc. to other places like Olive Garden, Spaghetti Warehouse, and Carrabbas but the taste of the food and the experience is very different. First the experience or ambiance. This restaurant used to be a Pizza Hut so it is much smaller than the restaurants named above. It is very comfortable, not too noisy or busy and has a homey or family run restaurant feel despite being part of a growing chain of Sidelines establishments. This is a great place to have lunch or dinner with your significant other. On to food taste and this is where it is hard to compare. The flavors are unique to this restaurant like you are eating dinner at someone's Italian grandmother's house. Meatballs, because who doesn't judge an Italian restaurant by their meatballs? The meatballs and pomodoro sauce ($6) were very different from Olive Garden's and I mean that as a compliment. These were big, very flavorful, and not overly cooked. The sauce was basic with mild flavor like you would expect from pomodoro. Lasagna. The noodles, sauce and cheese were great and full of flavor but I would rank it last amongst all of the competitions named above for two reasons. Oddly enough one side of it was dried out when they reheated it before serving. The sauce had been reduced to a tomato past like consistency on that side but the other side of this small serving dish was fine. Not sure how they pulled that off! The other reason is lack of meat. There were just a few small pieces of meat in the whole dish. Pasta Fagoli is no Olive Garden and that to me is not a compliment. The pasta Sidelines uses is huge and there was very little liquid in the bottom of the cup. This was more like a pasta dish than a soup. The bread was good but could be better if the crust was more developed. My wife ordered a salad, some chicken dish, and green beans. She wasn't happy with anything but the green beans. In summary, we liked it enough to go back at least one more time and try some other menu items but there wasn't a wow factor that makes us look forward to the next time. read more

Diner quality food for the price of higher end restaurants. This was my first time here, and also my last time here. They had calamari that had the same texture as rubberbands for $11.00 (I just had calamari cooked to perfection at Weber's in Ann Arbor for $14.00. I also got more calamari at Weber's than Sidelines). Sirloin steak for $20.00 that I ordered medium. It came out well done on the outside, but rare in the middle. You can get a better quality steak cooked to perfection for the same price at Texas Roadhouse. One person in our party got a wrong order. They did not remove the charge because "he ate out of it already" (maybe 2 bits was missing). They also overcharged us for a side salad that I got with my steak. Instead of the add on price the menu stated, they charged us the stand alone price. When I notified the waitstaff of this error, they refused to fix the charge. As awful the whole experience was, I was shocked at how busy they are. read more

I placed an order for the Family Feast that serves four people. I spoke with Kelly (pretty sure that's her name) and she was beyond helpful!! I had no clue what to order for my friends/neighbors, for whom I wanted to drop off dinner at a specific time. She was so helpful with her suggestions and I'm very excited to pick up this feast for my friends/neighbors, as one recently had surgery and her husband needs a night off from cooking duty. I will amend my review once I pick it up and receive feedback on it. I was pleased that the feast includes an appetizer (risotto recommended), salads (opted for a large chopped salad!), lasagna and chicken carbonara (which I chose with help from Kelly), along with a dessert. This review is solely based on the courteousness and helpfulness of Kelly, along with the wonderful options available for the Family Feast. Even though it will be for two people, the four-portion Feast sounds fabulous!!! Stay tuned for an update!! So far so good!!! UPDATE: My order was ready on time and neatly packaged for carryout. I was able to pick it up from the pickup window without leaving my car. (Good to know for super cold or rainy days!). It smelled so delicious in my car too!! My friends reported that everything was A+!! Don't know details of why, but obviously it was to their liking. I had ordered the two of them the Family Feast (serves four) with a large risotto appetizer, large chopped salad, lasagna entrée, chicken carbonara entree, and the dessert. The total was $35 before tax and tip, which I thought was very reasonable.
