Owner; smiling with a large chorizo egg & cheese

Every time I've been to this place, it's been delicious & consistent. I never caught the owner's name but he's very generous with the community on Mission & makes you feel like you're at his house. He even opened up 30 minutes earlier than usual for me & my friends because he forgot to change the hours on here. I always get the Chorizo egg and cheese with lettuce, tomatoes, and banana peppers and it's always great.

Juan is The best in the bussines . Bread is always fresh, meat is stacked right, and everything tastes clean and on point. Nothing skimpy, nothing rushed. You get that classic sub shop feel but done the right way. The flavors hit every time

Juan is the goat. My friends and I arrived an hour early not knowing he opens later on Saturday and he still let us inside to order. Portion sizes and taste definitely justify the price making it affordable. Good food, good portions, good humor. What more do you need. Even with a mask you know he's smiling with his eyes!

I just got a chicken bbq sandwich to go from here. I loved the sandwich. It was the most delicious sandwich I've ever had. The service was amazing. I can definitely see myself coming back here at some point. This is only a takeout place just to let everyone know. The ambiance of the place was really good too . I give them a 5 star review

I always wondered about the menu item the" Tree Hugger ". Never tried their very interesting Vegetarian menu

There are so many sandwich places in San Francisco. Sandwich places are everywhere from the corner stores to delicatessens . There is one sandwich place which is the real sandwich place for decades in the San Francisco and is still open M-F ( Monday- Friday). The Sandwich Place on 16th street and Mission street has been a neighborhood favorite for decades from elementary to adulthood. The Sandwich Place ( not to be confused with the Sandwich Store) has been serving some good sandwiches from breakfast to lunch and has vegetarian options . I like going here for the lunch menu which is usually a hot pastrami sandwich and a delicious cold tuna sandwich. I got the savory Pastrami sandwich and it is still consistent to what I had over the years. The bread is soft and the warm pastrami is tender and tasty with melted provolone cheese and veggies for the crunch. There is limited seating outside which you can people watch and see some interesting things happening on Mission street. Come here for the sandwiches like the pastrami, tuna, and roast beef Go to the real Sandwich Place in San Francisco on Mission street and 16th

In search of a breakfast near where we were staying, I stumbled across this gem. The neighborhood is not the best, BUT this sandwich was made with love. The owner was such a nice guy. When we came in he was giving sandwiches to a couple of homeless guys; people like that are rare these days. I don't know if I'll ever be back, but I would support this business every day if I could.

Hidden gem on 16th n Mission. This man really puts all of his love and effort into his craft. What makes this place stand out from the other sandwich shops: He makes his own sourdough, prices are very reasonable, special sauces and condiments are made in house, theres only one guy running the joint putting together the sandwhiches up front and one person in the kitchen area cooking the ingredients as orders are being put in, its been there for over 45 years! Hes got a great personality and an awesome staff!

Top notch sandwiches made to order. Old school sandwich shop atmosphere. Lines can be long at times, but it's worth the wait.

Does this place ALWAYS close early.... it's 4 pm and the door is locked and gate closed?

Yes, they are notorious for closing as much as a half an hour early, and don't expect them to let you in even if you're a regular that is there twice a week.

Alma's Hot and Spicy was also a winner, as was the Giants. Kudos for having simple sandwiches with the option to make as weird and customizable as is reasonable! You start in the back toward the center to place your order, then move to line up on the left side to pick it up and add toppings to hot sandwiches. After that, you bring everything to the front to pay. Quite few people, us included, were a little unsure where to go next. The sandwiches made up for it. I got the tri tip special with garlic butter and swapped the Swiss for pepperjack. The meat was sliced thin and really tender, and the garlic butter a perfect addition. I'm not usually big on sauces, but they have a good variety of house options if that's your thing. We'll definitely be back. I was also happy to see they have another location in San Bruno.

I got the breakfast sandwich which was delicious, and my friend ordered the turkey sandwich which they also loved. One thing to note is that they don't allow substitutions or modifications, so just be aware of that going in. It's more of a deli/grocery-style spot, so there isn't much seating, just a few tables and chairs outside. But it's super close to Dolores Park, so we usually just grab our sandwiches and head there to eat. The chocolate chip cookie was also a standout. It's more of a brown butter, dark chocolate situation, rich but really well balanced, and the perfect sweet treat after the sandwich.
