Tender ribeye , grilled onions and peppers , sharp, tangy cheese & the bread though it was toasted it was soft & didn't cut the roof of my mouth (trust me, this has kept me from eating toasted sandwiches in SF ) I got some chips, Jalapeño heat & a homemade strawberry lemonade. I have to laugh at myself now because when I got in the elevator I saw a worker and asked if they had ever been there and she said, that she had and that I should try some of the other things on their menu. I would definitely get the cheesesteak again. The meat was nice and tender. The cheese was gooey and paired well with the meat. The bread was also soft and easy to bite through. The California chrome is also good but I preferred the cheesesteak. The bread on this one was harder to bite through. The crust was smooth and a bit tougher. We were most excited about trying Newkirk's because they offered an option with impossible "steak" (plant-based meat) (both vegetarian and vegan option). Thank you for this option! After reading the reviews, we expected to be wow'd. We ordered one impossible cheesesteak and one regular cheesesteak, no modifications. We actually just came from New York and had a great cheesesteak there, so maybe that was why we were not wow'd? The regular cheesesteak had some flavor, not a ton. The sauces helped. You can get two sauces per sandwich (additional sauce also available for purchase). We liked the green sauce a bit better than the orange. The impossible cheesesteak was good, the mayo helped. The ends of the sandwiches were a bit empty (should have taken a picture.. sorry). Sandwiches were $16.95 each. We ordered online and it was ready after we checked in with the worker. Hands down my favorite sandwich spot in SF. If you ever want to have the closest thing to a NYC sandwich this is it! My favorite is the hash brown sandwich, while I am never able to finish it (you probably would love to go with me because you get the half I can't est ). It's so delicious! Extra points for the staff as it can get busy but they are super efficient. The strawberry lemonade it's delicious. That by itself it's a 10 out of 10. Inside there are a good amount of tables but expect it to be busy especially during the weekend. The ambiance is very SF with a healthy dose of East Coast vibes. Came here for a quick lunch take out and I for the pastrami egg sandwich. The bread was very light and fluffy and flavors of the pastrami was A+. It was pretty busy in there actually so I can tell this is a popular spot. We were in SF for the weekend and made a point to visit Newkirk's. We ordered a bacon egg and cheese (BEC), a Pastrami egg and cheese (PEC), an orange juice and an iced coffee The sandwiches came on a soft warm Kaiser roll that was excellent. The BEC's bacon was crispy and the egg was nicely cooked. All this with some bright orange hot sauce combined to make a pretty epic breakfast sandwich. I had a bite of the PEC and it was equally good. Iced coffee was also very good and the orange juice was kid approved. Service was quick and friendly and it was quiet and comfortable on the Friday morning we visited. Went on a trip out of town recently to catch a concert too expensive to see in SF. Did a little research and found a cheesesteak spot there. Talked around to some locals about it and they described it as their "to-go/ must have" spot. It was on the Michelin guide and I trust a large puffy white man who wants to sell my tires. Went on a Saturday morning around 1:00 and there was a line almost out the door. The line flowed nicely though and it probably took about 15 minutes total to wait in line, order food, and then for the food to come out. There is seating room (not too big, but a good amount of open chairs) and there were two pinball machines. I got the Hashbrown Sandwich togo and it was delicious. The bacon was perfectly cooked and crispy. The ketchup and hash browns balanced out the heat from the jalapeños. The sandwich also comes with two hot sauces. The green was more mild and was absolutely delicious. I'm not sure why this place doesn't get more attention. One of the best things I've eaten this year was the pastrami, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich with house made hot sauce from here. Everything about it is perfect - the soft poppyseed Kaiser roll, the salty pastrami, the gooey cheese, and the hard fried egg all mesh together in such a great way. In my opinion, this is easily one of the best no fuss (and no dry biscuit) breakfast sandwiches in the city. Beyond the fantastic breakfast sandwiches, the service here is typically really friendly too. They seem to go out of their way to be helpful. Although the ambiance is pleasant overall, the shop itself is very small with just a few tables. The location is immediately adjacent to the General as well, so parking can be tough. I was driving through this part of city, and saw the Newkirk's building and the words cheesesteak so I knew I had to add to my must try list, and decided to give it a go. Since it was my first time, I went with their cheesesteak and got a sausage breakfast sandwich. The surprise winner between the two was the breakfast sandwich! The poppy seed Kaiser roll was baked to perfection and overall, this was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in a really long time. I've been thinking about it ever since I went last week. They have a wide selection of fried egg breakfast sandwiches, and definitely will be back for more. The cheesesteak was good but can't dethrone my top spot in my personal power rankings but id say it's in the Top 3. Whatever bread they use is really good, crunchy yet soft.
