I love cheesesteak and finding locations that offer a meat substitute that isn't just veggies is always top of my list. Metro Caffe has two fake meat options for their sandwiches, either a Boca or a garden burger patty that's chopped up and grilled with cheese and onions! There's a few extra options to add as toppings: extra cheese, extra meat, peppers, avocado, mushrooms, etc. as well as burgers, hot dogs and a good range of sides. I decided to try the Boca burger cheesesteak sandwich while my partner got the turkey. The first thing we noticed was how amazingly soft the bread was, a big difference compared to other cheesesteak restaurants. The sandwiches also aren't huge and overfilled.... which surprisingly is what we prefer! We were able to eat everything and didn't feel like we had taken a bomb to our stomachs, which usually happens after a big cheese filled sandwich. On top of that, the sandwiches were delicious. The grilled onions were good and the cheese melted well and got into all the bits of the sandwich and meat fillings. Our food came out piping hot but not so bad that we had to wait too long before we could eat. The shop is small but there's indoor and outdoor seating and it's close to a few parks and bars that will let you bring in food. Service was quick and the workers were nice and friendly. Definitely a great replacement for the cheesesteak shops we've been losing lately, we're definitely returning! read more

I door dashed food from here and had the cheese tots and the mushroom cheesesteak. I am handicapped with nerve damage affecting my ability to walk and even stay standing for very long so DoorDash has been my lifeline for food. I will give credit where credit is due; the tots were great! Crispy and soaked in cheese sauce. It was amazing but then I had the cheesesteak. It was the most disappointing meal I've ever eaten. I did not taste a single hint of cheese at all, the bread was a little too think for my taste, and the sandwich had absolutely no flavor at all. No salt, no cheese, and the only time I've ever taken a couple bites of a sandwich and just stopped eating. It was terrible. Heard about this spot listening to the Morning Roast on 95.7 The Game radio station, people were raving about the cheesesteaks and finally Mae it over. After trying, definitely ranks in the top 2 cheesesteaks I've had in the city. The bread is perfect. Toasted, yet airy, it's one of the best rolls I've had on a cheesesteak, ever. The meat was tasty, mixed with a good amount of cheese, very well done. The only thing that I'd do next time is skip the hot and sweet peppers. The peppers were a little overpowering flavor wise. We also got an order of chicken wings with the hot flavor. Wish they were a bit crispier as it had a very soft and slimey mouthfeel. The fries were cool, added some salt to round em out. The food takes sometime, but that's ok bc the cheesesteak was fresh. Definitely would recommend if you are looking for a tasty cheesesteak. I kinda wish I didn't get something with lettuce and tomatoes so they could fill it with more of the meat, peppers, and cheese - the one thing that this cheese steak lacks is a good amount of cheese. Had an incredible burger here last night. This is a legit San Francisco institution, I got to talk with the owner for a few minutes and he is a really cool guy. Our burgers were fantastic (I got the blue burger which has bacon and some really good blue cheese), I got mine medium well and it was cooked perfectly. The bacon was also hella good. The fries were incredible, kind of like Berkeley institution The Smokehouse but better seasoned and better fried. I recommend this spot to anyone looking for a great burger in San Francisco, will come back to try the fish and chips and the wings and another burger :) Also there is seating for a few people there and we were able to park right outside at like 745pm on a Tuesday which is crazy for sf. 10/10 no notes read more

Desperate for a non-meat cheesesteak to be delivered for a lunch break I had to work through... I ordered the Boca Cheesesteak, tater tots, and a side of cheese for dipping purposes. Everything was good but I suspect I know how to make it great: Boca Cheesesteak - Ground Boca meatless burger, cheese, onions, hot + sweet peppers. Next time, I'll skip the hot peppers. They were tasty but overwhelmed the rest of the flavor, so eventually I just tasted heat on (really good, fresh) bread. I'd also get extra cheese since there was barely any. Tater Tots - Really good deep fried tots but they did not send the dipping cheese I ordered and paid for. If I had that cheese dip, the tots would have been excellent. Metro Caffe is one of those delightful hole-in-the-wall where the food is yummy and surprising. Based on other reviews, I ordered the Metro Burger and fries. The burger was pretty big and extremely juicy. The fries were crisp and tasty. I thought my son's order of tater tots was equally tasty, but he said that they were too crispy for him (even though he finished the entire basket). My husband enjoyed his burger as well, but he didn't feel that it was anything particularly different or unique. The service is really quick but seating is extremely limited if you plan to dine in. The staff was courteous and polite though not overly friendly. Based on the experience of all our family members, I'm giving this review 4 stars. Needless to say I don't recommend this place, you can't charge that price for food that's crap. For food this crappy you better charge the lowest price possible.
