We ordered some food for delivery from Jake's steaks last Friday night. We got two of the original Philly cheesesteaks, an 8-in and a 13-in, a mushroom cheesesteak, a BLTA sandwich, a large order of waffle cheese fries, a large order of curly fries and a butterscotch krimpet. After fees and tip, it was just over $100 for four people which isn't unreasonable in SF. The most expensive item by far was my BLTA, however, we always like to share and sample each other's food so my sandwich was also the most universally enjoyed. I ordered it toasted with sharp white American cheese and mustard and everybody loved it. The cheesesteaks were fine and the mushroom cheesesteak definitely had a good amount of mushrooms. If you love mushrooms, that's the sandwich for you. If you can believe it , I actually chose this location because I had read that their fries were excellent. That may very well be the case when you dine in but both orders of fries were pretty soggy and cold by the time they arrived. That sort of stuff has to be anticipated when you're ordering for delivery. I will say that I preferred the curly fries, but because the waffle fries had cheese on them, the flavor was better overall, so maybe next time I'll see if they offer curly fries with cheese. read more

Avoid this place like the plague. My friend and I came here and we ordered two burgers, and they were absolutely the worst burgers I've ever had. Everything was soggy and fell apart. The buns were made with thin bread. For $70 for two burgers and fries, you'd at least expect sesame seed buns , burger that's layered well. Instead, everything was watery and literally falling apart. The burger was definitely low carb because the bun was inedible it was so soaked with dressing impossible to eat . The waffle chili fries were not even so so. I came over here to get a cheesesteak and was surprised by how many options they had! Each cheesesteak comes with onions and your choice of cheese, including cheese, whiz! I did not try a sandwich with cheese whiz, but I was pleased with the garlic mushroom cheesesteak I did have. I did not drink a beer, but I wish I had because they had 10 ounces of house beer for one dollar and the bartender was super friendly! I did bristle a bit at the 75-cent surcharge for mayo since it's a God-given condiment, don't you agree? Stop judging me. The sum of it was tasty, I must admit, and also quite sloppy (Photo 5). But you're not supposed to ask for a knife and fork at a cheesesteak shop. It's the law. Now it would've been wrong to order fries, so I splurged and got the $7.49 Zucchini Sticks (Photo 6). They were pretty decent, not too soggy or oily, and everything's better with ranch dressing. Like a tawdry one-night stand, it gave me momentary pleasure followed by denials of nutritional infidelity. Love it. Amaroso's bread makes all the difference. I had the GMO hoagie style which includes garlic mushroom and onions. That was overkill and took away from the cheesesteakiness...I think it was the garlic. Unnecessary but that's my fault for the order. I ride my bike down Valencia weekly and have always wanted to give this place a try. For lunch, it was a one man show so it took like 25 minutes for my order to be ready. I got the cheese steak combo with fries and a drink. The cheese steak was severely underwhelming and bland. The roll itself also felt really small compared to other places in the city and especially for its price. The waffle fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was just lacking salt and pepper but an easy fix. Overall, I don't think I would come back unless I was in the area wanting a sandwich. I had started to give up on the hope that I would have a decent Philly cheesesteak here in the Bay Area (I lived in Pittsburgh for four years). However, I learned about Jake's and decided to give it a try to see if it would be the place that finally satisfies my cheesesteak craving on the West Coast. I ordered the Jake's cheesesteak with a side of waffle fries. The sandwich was quite tasty and the addition of chopped pepperoni and bacon with the steak mixture was something I haven't seen and added some great flavor. The hoagie roll was good quality and what you get in a classic cheesesteak, which makes sense since the bread is apparently from Philly. I wouldn't say this cheesesteak was the best one I've had in my life but it was definitely one of the better ones that I've had in the Bay Area. The waffle fries were pretty standard... good but you could tell that they were made from frozen. I live in the South Bay and wouldn't necessarily come all the way up here for the food. So Jake's had a rewards program that you earned points per purchase and could eventually get a free cheesesteak or other items. I had several points accrued a went by a few weeks ago to collect but the rewards were gone! (Apparently they changed vendors and all the rewards points ppl had were wiped) I asked the staff what to do and they said email contact@jakessteaks.net and the owner reached out to me personally to address the issue! A large cheesesteak and side of fries as actually perfect for two grown men to split; granted we weren't famished only modestly hungry. Original Philly Cheesesteak: This really hit the spot for my cheesesteak craving. The hoagie roll was fresh and chewy (I hate when places give you a cheesesteak on a crusty/crunchy roll). The beef was sliced thin and griddled nicely alongside some caramelized onions for extra umami. Cheez whiz was spread on the bun and mixed in the beef, though not drizzled on top. At first I was worried about the lack of cheesiness, but I think it worked out well this way because you taste the steak first and then the cheese. Waffle Fries: These were surprisingly awesome. I had asked for the bbq sauce on the side but unfortunately it didn't come that way, no big deal tho but there was also barely any ranch in my burger. The burger itself was pretty good.
