2 hr wait for fish fry on Friday night is pathetic. Try planning a bit if you bring in a band with followers

Have been to the Sand Bar on Friday nights for their fish fry. Food is good and bountiful and the service is good. Seating is limited, so pick early or late to insure a table. Prices are competitive and parking is adequate. read more

My family rented a Lake House on Shawano Lake the week of the 4th of July. We boated by and stopped for drinks the first day. They have a Summer specials by the pail. We decided to go back and try the burgers and cheese curds. All burgers and wraps were really good!!! The burgers tasted like they were just taken off the grill! Sara was our waitress and bartender. Great place for fish, the daily specials, and burgers. Right across from the lake, so we boat here in the Summer and drive in the winter. Grandkids fish off the dock. Lots of TV's, jukebox just loud enough. Friendly patrons and employees. Never had less than a piping hot great meal here. read more

My family has been going to this restaurant for countless years, and it is a great possibility that we will never return after the service we received today. The appeal of this place is that it is one of two restaurants in Shawano that you can visit by boat. After our visit, we immediately left and went to The Lighthouse (which is a much better restaurant with NICER servers). When we sat down outside at The Sandbar, my 89 year old grandfather went inside to get a menu. As soon as he asked, he was met with attitude from a very abrasive and unpleasant man. Upon seeing that there were only 2 other people eating inside, we thought it wouldn't be a problem to be served outside. Wrong. The man with messed up teeth saw us writing our orders down (so we would remember what our party wanted when we went inside to order) and immediately scolded us and said that "we would cause too many issues giving them our own order." We simply told him that we were just writing it down for our own sake, and we were met with a hostile eye roll and he walked to the other party outside. When he came back to our table to write down our food orders, my father tried to order a water and the waiter lost his marbles. He screamed in our faces and said that he "told us 4 times already that there was no waiter service." OK, so then what are you doing writing our orders down? When we told him we were leaving, he said "I've already told you theres no waiter service, so whatever" and walked away We left because of his horrible attitude and this man missed out on an expensive bill and nice tip. We will not be returning. Very upset at the lack of respect and horrible attitude from this washed up sad excuse of a man. read more

I used to visit this area in the 40's and the bar was called The Washington Resort. The bar food used to be really good. We were going through the area so we decided to stop. It was a surprise to see the building was still standing but, a new name. We decided to stop and have lunch. They had a fish sandwich on the menu so I asked, what kind of fish? The lady behind the bar said I don't know, it's some kind of frozen fish! Oh! It came with a side of fries or potato salad. I said I'll have the ps and she says sorry our cook hasn't made any yet you'll have to have the fries. Well, at least the fish was good. The locals probably think this place is great but, I'm glad I don't have to go back. read more

This is now the Sandbar Grille, new owners and is even more incredible than before! My wife and I always get a chicken nacho supreme at least 3 times a week to go since we work late. Wendy in the kitchen has our order dialed in, Cheryl and Robo the owners are the best! Our kids and grandkids here the past two weeks, ordered everyday as they love the food too! The Sandbar Bar, my parents local hang out for Wisconsin Friday night cod fish fry's. Over the years they have redone the interior and changed some of the menu pricing of this classic Wisconsin dive bar, but not much else has changed. The food is probably the best bar food in the area, and the prices can not be beat. The staff is friendly and open to regulars and tourists alike (which is sometimes hard to find in the area). The Sandbar is busy and usually understaffed for the peak times, don't come on a busy night if your in a hurry! The only thing is wish they would add is outdoor seating or a deck to enjoy the view of the lake in the summer months! The top three you must have here are: The Sandbar Burger and fries, The Garlic Parmesan Wrap, and any of the Fish Fry's. Their daily specials are usually fantastic too! This bar will always have a little piece of my heart, its a must stop in Shawano/Cecil. read more

Visited here last Tuesday for Indian Tacos for lunch with 3 other individuals. The food was good and service was perfect. The place wasn't packed so the noise level was also decent. Finally there wasn't anyone smashing beer bottles when they were being disposed of behind the bar which is how a bar should be. Keep up the good work. read more

Talk about an awesome place that got ruined by the new owners. This place used to have unbeatable prices, and huge portion sizes. Now it is $7.50 for a bacon burger that is claimed to be half pound but obviously isn't. DO NOT GET THE NACHOS! For $9 you would expect a huge portion but you barely get any good. This place is still physically the same it used to be, they added some new decor which is nice. If it weren't for the atmosphere I would give this place a 1 star review. Please go back to the old sandbar owners. read more

This was my first time trying it the Sand Bar and it is certainly my last time. I walked in, sat at the bar with my girlfriend to have a drink, it took over 20 minutes for a bartender to even acknowledge us, and the place wasn't that busy. There was a male and a female bartender that walk passed us twice and then never even bother to say hello and we will be right with you. Once the female bartender came over she immediately says what are you guys having, not sorry for the wait, and what can I get for you. I asked for a drink menu and she had a look on her face like well shouldn't you know what you want to order. She then proceeded to grab two coaster and threw them up slightly and the landed some what in front of my girlfriend and I. After that she went to get the drink menu and left without saying a word. I told my girlfriend let's go, I refuse to spend my money at any place that would treat us so poorly, and we walked right out. I definitely won't be back and will tell anyone visiting the Wisconsin Dells are like we were this weekend to avoid that place! read more
