We had the worst so called steak dinner there ever. We would not recommend this place. Don't go there!!!

Bartender was great! Expected more for what we paid for Easter brunch. It was just OK.

Stopped by on the recommendation of a local. Boy was I surprised. I figured it was just another bar, but it turned out that I was in for a treat. Very friendly staff, good cold drinks, live music, and very good food. I had the Lobster Tail and was pleased. The Old Fashioneds were spot on, and they even put on a little show for my bar neighbors birthday. I will be back. read more

My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night for a nice date night dinner while visiting the area. We had a little snafu with being seated. Apparently, there was a party of 30 people in the dining room and they weren't seating any more in there, so it was a 20 minute wait for bar seating. The hostess seemed a little bit disorganized but we put our name down and got some drinks at the bar while waiting. I had a grapefruit moscow mule and he had an orange moscow mule. Both very good! There was some live music in the bar. A little bit loud, but I guess that's to be expected. Finally, a server saw us sitting and waiting and asked if we needed anything. We explained that we were just waiting for a table. After pulling some strings, she managed to get us a table in the dining room without the wait or bothering the large party group. We had the Classic's spread for an appetizer (cheese and bacon with little garlic toasts...how can you pass that up!), french onion and clam chowder soup, spinach salads with hot bacon dressing, and the Nueske's bacon wrapped beef tenderloin. We took some turtle cheesecake home for dessert. Overall, a very nice restaurant! I would come back! read more

My wife and I bought a place in the Shawano area three years ago. Classic's quickly became our weekend evening "go to" place. We haven't been to all the area restaurants as of yet but of those we have visited Classic's seems to be the "fine dining" establishment in the area. There is a quiet dining area for that romantic/date night type evening while the main bar is often bustling with activity. Probably my wifes favorite part of Classic's are the local bands/musicians brought in every Friday & Saturday night starting around 8:30 - 9:00. Very rarely is there a cover charge and they bring in different genres of music every weekend. We so enjoy getting away from the kids for a few hours to listen to excellent musicians from Northeast Wisconsin. Classic's is locally owned and operated. The staff are always cheery and take the time to say hello. It's obvious they take great pride in customer service. Classic's is probably one of the more expensive dining options for the area but it's certainly not out of line. We more often go for the drinks & music but on those visits where we've had dinner we've never had a bad meal. Our experiences have ranged from steaks, Friday fish & just a plain old burger. While the music is what my wife most enjoys I'm somewhat partial to the happy hour (4p - 6p), $2 hand muddled old fashioneds. Such a deal. There's been many an afternoon where casual conversation has been struck up with complete strangers. If you are staying at one of the local campgrounds or are in the area looking for that place to go, Classic's is most definitely worthy of checking out. read more

This is the best food in the area. A gourmet meets supper club menu. The wine pairing dinners monthly are excellent too!

My wife has family in Shawano so we've bounced around on visits to local bars, but Classics has quickly become our favorite. It's an impressive establishment in general, not just for a small town, and has a great vintage feel to it. The bar speaks to the good old times of Rock and Roll, Bluegrass, Blues, and Jazz. There's some great memorabilia hanging on the walls from artist sketches, famous photos, "classic" guitars, and more. They have a nice wraparound bar, and several different sections of the place to walk around in and look at all the fun entertainment. My favorite part is the several large TVs and projection screen that have a DVD video concert playing when there isn't a live band in the restaurant itself. Everytime I've come (and taste is obviously relative), they've had a band I really enjoy playing on the videos or a live band that is doing a fantastic job. And because of the solid accoustics, it sounds like a concert regardless of which is happening. The food menu is impressive, both in variety/quality and unfortunately in price. Pretty steep for Shawano with a lot of dishes clocking in between $15-30, but from what I've had you at least get your money's worth in the taste department. My Prime Rib (14oz) was very scrumptious with a delicious seasoning on the fries, and the accompanying Chicken Dumpling soup was decent too. Overall I enjoyed my wife's food a little better, she got the $10.95 Prime Rib sandwhich special which was just about as hearty in size but easier on the wallet and even tastier when finely sliced. There were quite a few steaks and pastas on the menu that require a return visit, but overall the food is worth exploring since they have a full restaurant attached to the bar and cater to higher end fare rather than the stock pub food served by many neighbors. Service is friendly; on several visits we've had some lengthy conversations with bartenders and waitstaff and the mood is always positive. Never an excessively long wait for food or drinks, even when they've been bustling, and while the food is a little pricey the drinks are cheap. Usually $3-4 or less for a beer or mixed drink and almost always something on special. Classics is for sure worthy of its title, make it a stop on your list when traveling norte read more

My girlfriend and I visited Classic's on a Friday night. The service was slow and the waitress was indifferent and not very engaged, no specials were explained nor was there any menu recommendations. We ordered the bacon wrapped scallops as an appetizer. They were extremely over priced for three scallops the size of a cold midgets balls, wrapped in extremely burnt bacon. We were served French onion soup that tasted as if the broth had been cooked in a dirty pot of dish water. Our entrées had a nice presentation, I had the mediterranean chicken and my girlfriend had the sautéed shrimp. Both dishes were extremely bland! Even the potato fell flat. Overall Classic's was an extreme disappointment and we will not be visiting this restaurant again. read more

An all ladies motorcycle group from various Wisconsin counties were provided several dining recommendations for the Shawano area, and we tried 3 others before arriving at Classics on a Monday night in mid July. We were so impressed by the food, service and adult beverages that we received at Classics that went back with another group Tuesday night...and were not disappointed!! Between us we sampled every appetizer (ahi tuna with a house slaw was my fave!) along with steak (cooked to a medium rare perfection), salmon, a tasty chicken & pasta dish, and a slow cooked brisket sandwich worthy of a 100 mile trip. While all the food and bevs were flowing, we were happily entertained by the large screen TVs playing an Eric Clapton concert followed by Fleetwood Mac! The second night's entertainment was live - a local with a terrible singing voice and a slightly less annoying organ - not for everyone, but enjoyable in a vacationy way! Looking forward to another visit during snowmobile season and hoping that their spinach & raspberry salad with homemade dressing, a couple of "true" old fashions, and a mound of that fabulous slaw await! read more

This place is everything you want from a Wisconsin supper club! We went at happy hour (4-6) and enjoyed the $2 old fashions, of which they had a great variety. We were going to eat in the bar, but glad we didn't- there is a fancy dining room in back with white linen tablecloths - you'd never expect that from the bar! We both got fish & chips, but I substituted fries for my chips. The potato chips were homemade, as well as the fries ( both great) and the fish was the best fish fry we've had yet ( and we've had a lot of fish fries). It was more than we could eat, but they offer an even bigger version with soup & salad! We really enjoyed it and we will definitely be going back! read more

We stopped here on our way up north based on all the other reviews. It wasn't bad by any means, but it didn't meet my expectations of a 4.5 star. I was really excited by the menu options. We ordered the cheese spread appetizer with tostinis or whatever they were called, deep fried little breads. The cheese spread was really good, but you basically had oil ooze out into your mouth when you took a bite of these breads. My husband and I each got the spinach and bacon salad because you don't see them that often and they are usually amazing. The bacon dressing came on the salad, and I feel like it sat too long before we got it. Some of the spinach was wilted and hot, other cold, and the dressing had a more bitter taste than any other hot bacon dressing I've had. The salads the table next to us got looked really good. I got the baked French onion which just tasted odd. I think it was the croutons, they looked seasoned. It was just weird. My husband had the clam chowder and he liked it. I ordered the Friday night seafood platter special (it's all deep fried). I'd give the perch and homemade French fries a 5 star, they were both super good. The cod and shrimp were tempura battered which really didn't have any flavor. (Get the perch!!) My husband got the bacon wrapped tenderloin with blue cheese and that was really good. Overall a decent meal, nothing is return for though. The bar did seem pretty hoppin at 5 already so I'm sure it's a fun place. It's a cool atmosphere. read more

Rolled in here late one weekday evening in March with colleagues after a business meeting at the Casino. We were reminiscing about Classic's just today - it was my last evening out before the shutdown, and it was such a great surprise. Good food and cocktails, friendly staff, and an atmosphere that is comfortable for anyone. Classic concerts on the TVs. It's a true gem. My wife and I had dinner here last night and I was quite impressed. Her perch was among the best she's had and I really enjoyed the blackened walleye. Oh, did I mention $3 old fashioneds?! Wow. So, we are not entirely new to the Shawano area, however, we had not eaten at Classics before this weekend. Heard it could get busy, so we went early, near 6ish, for dinner on a Saturday night. and yep, we were definitely there early, though the crowd arrived after we did. Bar area is neat, lots to look at and the bar staff is very nice, accommodating, helpful overall. Our waitress super sweet, bubbly, nice attitude. Too bad it went down hill from there. i ordered the Rib Eye and my husband the Prime Rib. Meal starts with soup, which was very good. Salad, typical, so nothing to terrible there. However, our dinners, OMG Yukkyyyy My Ribeye, ordered medium rare, was at the very least medium to medium well. And lack flavor, honestly, brought the rest home to my dogs. And hubby's prime rib, lets just say he ate it with ketchup! 'cuz the flavor was so bad! Worst he has ever had, anywhere! And for what we paid for our meal. An absolute shame! Won't be going back, except maybe to listen to music, but most certainly not to eat. read more

Called ahead to see if they had crab legs. It isn't normally on their menu, but they were on special for New Years a week ago. Melanie said she would check and see And call us back. She returned the call so we figured we would give this place a try since our favorite place in Shawano burnt down. My wife had the king crab legs and said they were awesome. I had the ribs. The full rack is a big order. The staff was great. You can eat either in the bar or the dining room. The bar is old school rock and roll themed and the dining area is like a fine supper club Great experience and we will have to come back on a Saturday and try the prime rib some time. read more

Really good food!!!! The service was very good considering they were horribly understaffed. A couple of waitresses must not have shown up. This older lady served all the tables and we all felt bad for her, but she did her best. Shame on the people who didn't show up or the manager who did not put more people on the schedule. The place was packed and every worker we saw was busting their butt. Everybody in our group loved their dinner. New york strip, pork and apple filet, walleye, and prime rib. All done perfectly. Menu has many healthy choices that you don't typically find on Shawano Lake. They have a great happy hour throughout the year. Nice atmosphere, live music can be a hit or miss. You can eat at the bar or be seated in a much quieter area. On a busy night the regulars get the VIP treatment whereas newcomers have to wait for much longer to be served. read more

In a very blue moon I take time to write a terrible review but this place deserves it. I frequent The Lighthouse, Torchlight, Luigi's and the Launching Pad and have had great experiences, but Classic's stands out for having terrible service and mediocre food. We arrived at 6pm hoping to enjoy a couple beverages and an appetizer or two, but after waiting an hour and twenty minutes without being asked if we'd like a second drink or being told a waitress would be over in a specified amount of time, we decided to ask the bartenders if we could order food and drinks with them. Surprisingly, and against the typical "we welcome everyone in Shawano" attitude, we were told we could not order food from the bar and that a server would take our drink orders again. We waited patiently until another 20 minutes passed by only to realize a waitress/waiter would not be by. Two hours into our visit we finally had a waitress stop by, offer us dinner rolls for our wait and take our food/drink orders. In the end, the food was just okay...definitely not paying another visit anytime soon. read more
