Always a fun time! Pizza is yummy and the chicken fingers were nice too. We had some fun with the pull tabs while waiting.

I opted for the poor man's lobster with the seasoned wedges. Friends got the fried perch with homemade fries. The wedges were much better than the fries. The fries were good but not as crisp as I would have liked. We sat at the bar and Mary the bartender was so friendly. Drinks were a good pour and they made a hell of an old fashioned. The pricing was so inexpensive. With a couple rounds of drinks plus food it was only 85 bucks. So not only is this place great for you stomach it's also light on your wallet

Ok, listen. This…read moreplace is amazing. It's also 100% divey. Both can be true. Saw the reviews of this spot when we were staying at a cabin in nearby Mountain, WI. We drove up (with my parents in two, no less) and thought--uhh...they have food? And, according to Yelpers (thanks Lori!), good food? Indeed. We walked in, grabbed a table, and a server immediately popped over with menus. The menu is brimming with all the pub grub classics so there was something for everyone in our party of five. I got their fish fry, which was outta this world. Huge pieces of fish, tartar, coleslaw, choice of potato and rye bread. It was the sort of meal where the entire table goes quiet as everyone is in their own world of deliciousness. When we were finished, our server asked if we'd be interested in dessert. The dinner portions were so ample, we were leaning toward no until she offered to bring over the candy basket. Candy basket? Some places have a dessert tray Grudgeville Pub & Grub has a candy basket. Yes, please. I rarely, if ever, purchase candy bars so sifting through their selections was a real treat. I got a Kit Kat duo (mint + dark chocolate kit kat bar = who knew? Not me!). It was a fun little treat to top off an otherwise exemplary meal. Don't let the out of season Christmas lights, ancient linoleum, mismatched vinyl chairs fool you--this place is serving up legit eats. Get to it!

"E A T" We had driven by that sign and poked fun at it several times, prior to finally giving it a try. Hadn't heard a thing about it or read any reviews before walking in to the smallish diner. Only a few tables open on a late Saturday morning. A good sign. Small town 'homestyle' diners tend to fall into two groups. The first and sadly most common is the version where the Sysco truck drops off premade everything...from the soups to the cold salads. A grumpy cook then assembles your too thin bacon and some fried eggs, or a deep fried chicken patty, into your meal. It's often transactional, uninspired and qualifies as 'dining out' in only the most literal sense of the word. Then, occasionally, you find the rare exception. Like this place. My first clue was a woman, dining alone, that we passed by as we were seated. She was enjoying a fried chicken dinner with mashed potatoes that looked like the cover page of a fabulous fifties cookbook. Honestly, I read the menu with interest, but there was almost no chance that I wasn't going to order THAT. The menu is ambitious for a small kitchen, but after hearing the specials and reviewing the breakfast (all day) and lunch options, I caved to my brunch envy and ordered the Chicken dinner. I was served 4 pieces of remarkable fried chicken with a light, crispy and well seasoned breading that was clearly made by an experienced cook with real heart. A cook who, before putting a plate on the pickup, always looked at it and said with gusto, "I'd eat that". My coleslaw was homemade. The thick cut bread of my Wife's sandwich was homemade. The haystack onion rings I also succumbed to were fabulous too. All around me were patrons clearing their plates and bowls with happy faces. The two waitresses were cheerful, attentive and enthusiastic and contended with a large percentage of locals at the tables. Nearby a young kid was enjoying a root beer float with his lunch, a prize he negotiated with much pre-ordering haggling with Mom. At the next table, a local was schooling his out of town visitors as to the superstar choices on the menu. "No wrong answers", he proudly boasted. It is my opinion that having a business like this provides a soul center for small towns. Everything I saw here was beautifully executed. Nothing 'over the top' on the menu. But if you are driving buy and see the giant suggestion to " E A T " I suggest you do. I know I will again soon.

I didn't realize it had changed owners. It used to be a fine dining restaurant. Now it is casual dining. Their menu is only 2 sides, so they are trying to put out good food, and not be overwhelmed with the amount of different things to cook, but rather focus on the quality. They have several craft beers which is nice. Definitely not your Old Fashioned Drink headquarters. The decor is very cool. My dining experience: There were about 30 people in the restaurant and bar and it took over an hour for out food. The drinks were good, they have few concoctions in the giant mason jars. There is no salad bar. When I asked about a salad bar (because I remember there being one) the waitress said they wouldn't have one until they had more staff. We ordered the Friday fish fry. The fish was ok, not great. Heavy breading. The fish comes with choice of potato and we ordered hash browns. One was with cheese and onion the other no cheese. Guess what they both came out with... Yep, cheese. Remade in a jiffy, which I was surprised since the lady behind us had her order messed up and they said it would be an additional 20 minutes to remake her entree. We did have some cookie dough balls that were fabulous, but we were super hungry so I don't know if it was that we were shoveling them in or they were really that good. Overall, I think it's a couple of young guys trying their hardest to put out good food in the Northwoods. I hope that they make it because the staff was really friendly, but I'll spend my money closer to my house in town next time.
