Ordered a pizza, wingdings which I was informed was supposed to be whole wings which they were not, and a chicken wrap. Pizza and wings were good. Slightly disappointed with the chicken wrap. Maybe you have to eat it as soon as you get it because I waited the next day to eat it. Overall it wasn't a bad place. A bar type vibe. Nothing romantic about it, but if you want some quick food this might be the place to go. Happy eating!!!

The owner was behind the bar, and his wife Rene' behind the scenes. Had a few beverages and each ordered a beef tenderloin sandwich and shared fried cheese curds. The curds were crispy and everything a good fried curd should be. The beef tenderloin was juicy, fork tender and delicious. Nicely served on a sizzling platter and perfectly cooked. Mentioned our difficulty in finding a campground that wasn't full, and were immediately introduced to a couple that was staying nearby in a local campground. Conversation led us to a website and we were booked into a very nice site. ( On an August weekend, an open site is hard to find anywhere.) We were aware of that but just wandering and hoping. Anyway Rene's was a stroke of luck. Excellent food, really nice folks, and a score on a campsite. If you are on 141 in Wisconsin, anywhere near Crevitz get off the road and follow county rd X to Rene's. You will be happy you did.

We have never been treated like that, and certainly have never left a restaurant after being seated. I'm still shocked. Had they been listed, we would have ordered something else or asked for them to be left off. And as if the entire experience wasn't already disappointing enough, as we were leaving, the owner/manager actually told us to "have a mediocre night." Well... mission accomplished. After waiting nearly 20 minutes just to order, more than an hour for food, receiving food that wasn't prepared as described on the menu, and then being sent off with that kind of attitude, I can confidently say we won't be making that stop again. Sometimes it's not the food that ruins the experience--it's the complete lack of service and customer appreciation.

We didn't have any plans for dinner so my companion started looking for acceptable options on his iPhone. "How about this one," he said. "The 'Fresh Water Tavern' in Gladstone. Gladstone is just a few miles away." Having been to the Terrace Bay Hotel recently I said, "Actually, it's just down the hallway." "Really!" He replied. "Yep, it's the restaurant and bar right here in the hotel," I said. "Let's go!" He replied. And so we walked from our room to the bar. Once seated at the bar we ordered drinks. I went for a dry martini with one of my favorite gins -- which was properly mixed and chilled. Since we were in need of dinner too, we checked out the menu. Lots of good options. I decided to try the whitefish sandwich. It was excellent. A nice filet on a decent roll with the right amount of sauce and crunchy veggies. I'd definitely eat it again. Generic but decent fries along side of the sandwich made for a nice meal after our first day on the road. I didn't expect to find five star food in Gladstone, but tasty three star food with a properly mixed cocktail at the hotel restaurant/bar after a long drive is actually worthy of four -- so kudos to the Freshwater Tavern!
