My steak I ask for medium rare but it felt like it was just super raw and undercooked - I ate it and no digestive issues but it was cold and not how I asked for it at all - the salad from the salad bar was nice- the soup was beef barley vegetable too salty - and dessert was cookies - I didn't know what to expect when I ate here - my date drank a lot and I didn't - the special we got was a tenderloin steak that came with 2 extra large jumbo shrimp on Alfredo pasta - the sauce on the pasta was mild. I would have gotten the fried chicken instead because it looks like a light batter here at the next table and seemed to look nice but it's ok - I at least tried ..gave this place a shot read more

A little out of the way, but worth a stop. No matter what you expect, when you walk through the door, you will not get what you expected. The décor is 1960's awful. The bar area is set up well as a 4-sided square with the bartender in the middle. They make a good drink, and the beer selection is ok. The bar can be kinda cliquish, and not the most welcoming if you are not a local. The food is very good, in spite of the surroundings. Very good steak and chops. The salad bar used to be exceptional, but was retired due to COVID - maybe it will be back. For now they have a young staff member stand behind the salad station and load your plate to order. It works. if you are not a local, best not to go alone or you will feel left out, as everyone in here knows everyone else. Lots of parking. read more

I live in the heart of downtown Chicago and am very much accustomed to the uppity and expensive dining scene that River North, Gold Coast, and West Loop have to offer. The last time I ordered a tenderloin at the Whistle Stop (I've been twice in the past several months now), I requested it medium-rare-plus. The waitress (who might as well have been my great grandmother) looked at me with a look of shear confusion, said, "huh?" I looked at her, not quite understanding what was going on. She looked me up and down and asked, "are you from the big city?" We shared a laugh and I clarified -- "I'm sorry, medium-rare is fine." Just prior to ordering I spent some time at the bar waiting for our table. I ordered a glass of red wine and the bartender asked me which glass I wanted -- small, medium, or large. When I ordered a large I didn't think I was also in for a large pour, I thought he was asking me my preference on glassware. The pour amounted to about half a wine bottle, all of which cost about five bucks. This place is weird, and by weird, I mean awesome. Don't let the carpeting and complete lack of any tasteful decor whatsoever deter you. Both times I've ordered a tenderloin at the Whistle Stop it's been hands down exceptional. The unlimited soup and salad bar is pretty great, too. read more

This place is in major need of an update/upgrade, I had the ribs which were boiled in water first, which is a method to make them soft and tender, however it takes away from the taste of the meat big time! Almost all the flavor get strained out during that process, the salad bar was so-so, and the fish my wife had was not so good very fishy read more

Excellent food and service! Went for the prime rib, it came out perfect. Had great flavor and everything was piping hot. Wait staff was second to none. Very courteous and attentive. Will be back many times. read more

We love this place. Frequent family stop and a favorite of friends coming through town. I travel often and it's hard to beat the quality, service and prices here. The cuts of meat are great! The soup and salad bar never disappoints. Oh and they mix a great old fashion. I could care a less about decor like others have mentioned, the place is spotless and clean! read more

Solid supper club food and a well stocked bar. Friendly staff, good salad bar and great prices on steak and fish make the Whistle Stop worth stopping at if you're in the area. read more

Food is ok... not horrible. Setting is out of 1991. By marinette / menominee standards is average. Not Bergs landing but better than The Rail House. Will probably not come in again. read more
