Sit down with my boyfriend and order a blue moon. Unfortunately my boyfriend didn't see anything he liked so jokingly ordered a Long Island. $22. Are you serious? A draft beer and a mixed drink(I understand fully LI are more expensive but $16?!) so on top of the yelling 21(?) year olds and the inattentive bartenders I can't see anyone over the age of 20 staying here for more that a drink. I get it. Sandbar wants to be some premiere nightspot in Ocean Beach. Whatever, a kid's gotta have dreams. But you don't get that status by charging $15+ a drink in the middle of the day on a Sunday. Lemme backtrack a little and say that I *might* actually pay that much for a drink if we're getting a one-of-a-kind experience, but this place looked and smelled like the morning after a foam-party kegger at the Sigma Chi house. Our bartender, who looked like the house mom wearing an un-ironic beach-themed "Cat in the Hat"-ish hat, poured a light vodka soda and garden variety bloody marys. So at least Sandbar's got that going for them. read more

Oh man...spent many a crazy night here! I've been coming here for a few summers now, and it has consistently been a good time. I've never come here for meals, because to me while it serves food, it is not known for it's culinary excellence, but rather, its awesome night life scene. This is always our #1 go to spot when going out for the night on Fire Island and in Ocean Beach. The place itself is adorable and has a beachy essence like most places on Fire Island. Little red wagons hang from the ceiling, the colors inside are bright and tropical, and there are lots of beach signs and decorations. Again, if you're not a regular visitor of Fire Island you wouldn't get the red wagon thing, this is actually very significant and indicative of Fire Island. Red wagons are an icon of Fire Island. The bartenders can get a little snippy, but its understandable when seeing the very high volume of people they have to serve. I always get the giant "fuel" drinks here. It's about 14 dollars for a large slushee drink. Usually two are enough to get me pretty drunk, feeling good, and ready to dance! There are also shot specials running each time I visit. The DJs and bands who play here are on point and usually get the whole crowd dancing. Excellent place to drink, dance, and party. Lots of fog machines and lights going, and at midnight they shoot a ridiculous amount of napkins into the air! There is also a foam party night which I've only been to once, but was definitely a lot of fun. I highly recommend coming here! Why minus one star? DO NOT EVEN TRY TO USE THE RESTROOMS HERE! The line is ridiculous and you will spend forever trying to get through the crowd! Also, I have come here on "off" nights expecting to see the huge, loud, fun crowd that is normally here, and there are maybe 20 people here max at its peak hours. I would say 85-90% of the time there is a consistent, awesome crowd. But, I have come here on weekend and weekday nights and been disappointed by the atmosphere. Definitely an Ocean Beach classic. Probably one of the best places to party in Ocean Beach on the weekend. read more

I went here on a weekday afternoon with four teen children and my husband- it was - by far... the worst service I've had in years!!! The food took ridiculously long- which I could have handled if the server wasn't so dismissive and completely inconsiderate. the only time she actually showed up to help us, to bring napkins, she threw them at our table without a word or a glance. Live cover band, LOUD. The bar is basically impenetrable with lots of fist pumpers chilling near by. There is a doorman, but no cover and no selectivity. 21+ you are in. Left here pretty quickly the drinks were priced high as well. read more

Recently refurbished and MUCH better now. I wouldn't set foot in here before when their biggest draw was jello wrestling! Now they have board games and little mini-wagons all over the ceilings and walls. The barmaids are really friendly and make great drinks. Prices are good. Crowd is good. Serve hotdogs etc really late, which is always nice to know. Considering the dearth of options out here, this is worth stopping by. read more

If you're 25 or under, you're a better fit for Sandbar than I. It's loud and crowded too, which is fine, but it's not my scene anymore. Experiencing the bar only late at night, I couldn't say what it's like during the day. Situated in a place where nature reigns supreme, Sandbar's late night experience is rather unfriendly toward the environment as throwing hundreds, probably thousands, of napkins haphazardly around the bar is the routine. I'm opting for two stars instead of one because I did have fun with my small group of friends; also, security seems pretty tight, keeping out party-goers under 21. read more

A group of friends and I came here for July 4 weekend, and we were excited by how festive and lively this place was. Can't speak too much to how it is normally, but for the holiday period it was packed! Tons of liveliness, color and vibrancy-- we were basically pulled into the bar after hearing the noises, seeing the dancing, and loving the music from inside. read more

I stopped in for lunch with my wife for some fish and chips, fish was flaky. Chips were real thin sliced potatoes done great. Good music, it was quiet while we were there in June 2014. read more

This place is a ton of fun. They had a 10 piece band play when we were there, they offer a ton of drink specials and the bar is just an all around great time. They do serve food but I wouldn't eat here. Its better suited for some pre or post dinner drinks and dancing. Check it out for sure. read more

Awful. Out of state IDs aren't accepted. We were asked to have our IDs validated by policemen across the street. We ended up talking to the super nice cops for a while instead of going back to that bar after they confirmed we were 25. read more

Went here once in summer 2013 and it was packed and had great music by DJ Tanner and dancing. Cute with the red wagons on the ceiling. Another time I went it was a little empty and music was not on point. Good place to go mid summer for some rocket fuel! read more

This place had, if not the worst service then definitely in the top 3, that I have ever come across. 8 of us went in on a Sunday at noon and the place was empty minus a few people by the bar. We ordered very basic food, wraps and chicken fingers w/ fries. Besides the fact that it took about 20 minutes for our food to START being served, our waitress was bringing our food out ONE sandwich at a time, with about 7 - 10 minutes between each plate. With 8 of us, it literally took over 40 minutes for every plate to be served. By that time everyone's food was cold and it was not worth the wait either. Absolutely the worst experience of my life. Waited two hours for food and there was no one in the place. I was with 10 people and the waitress brought out someone's meal and then 10 minutes another meal came out. The most bizarre place. The cook was laughing with waiters the entire time. Sandbar is so much fun for the family during the daytime (it's a pretty adult scene in the evenings). We like the variety of chicken wings and good selection of board games. A cool place to have a frozen drink during the hot days while the kids play Jenga, Sorry, Trouble or more. I was surprised that them lobster sliders were so good. The clam chowder was reliably good. The chili was not that good (too bell peppery). Our favorite dish is the buffalo chicken salad! read more

Simply AMAZING!!!!!! delicious food and atmosphere :) we came here to celebrate husbands birthday at first we were hesitant on trying since it only had a two star BUT after trying it, I must say its a great hang out... A must try are the buffalo fried calamari and the sandbar wings! read more

I will be honest and say I was having a lovely time at this bar, especially tonight at the postponed Fourth of July weekend. But me and all my guy friends were informed at 9:30pm that there tank tops they had been wearing at the bar since 5:30pm were inappropriate and they had to leave. I of course asked why thus was a rule and when they planned on informing their customers who graciously spent A LOT Of money on this establishment that it was a rule...in which a security guard told me it was because men who had been there early in tank tops were more likely to be drunk and there fore a danger and they needed to have those guys leave to bring in new men. I said to the guard a may be a female but I feel as though that is sexist and wrong and asked for the manager. When I walked out and asked for the manager the security guard at the door gave me lip and said all people were informed of the rule as they entered at 7pm. I said well we arrived before 7 so why were we not told? He of course got even nastier with me when I was nothing but calm and looking for answers and the appropriate channel to complain to. It's a shame because I was having a wonderful time and most likely would have gave the place four stars but they need to get their shit together and not be so fucking rude to nice civil customers. You can tell me I should not be so angry about this but I would have gladly worked out the issue with the manager and found a solution had the bar even given me the option. It is safe to say me and my friends will never be attending here again. read more
