On August 3, 2025, we went to The Sand Bar to celebrate my cousin's birthday and spent $110 on drinks and shots. Not even ten minutes after entering, a friend of the security team was allowed inside with a fire extinguisher and began spraying it throughout the bar--including directly on people who were eating and drinking. This behavior was not only reckless but incredibly dangerous. Fire extinguisher chemicals are toxic when inhaled and can cause serious respiratory issues. Our drinks were completely ruined, and we were forced to leave immediately while covering our faces for safety. When we confronted the security team about what happened, they laughed--showing no concern for the health and safety of their customers. We will never return to this establishment. Yesterday on August 3rd me and my friends entered the sand bar looking to have a good time, get drinks, dance ETC (it was my first time here) while my friends were in the bathroom and getting drinks i saw about 10 people going up the stairs in the back towards the bathroom with drinks in their hands and was wondering if there was a rooftop or bar upstairs because again this is my first time here. As soon as my friend walked up the stairs we were confronted by Phil who after hearing our explanation of why we walked up grabbed my friend by the neck, tried throwing him down the stairs and kicking him relentlessly while calling for backup and the security pushed us with no regard to our story. We definitely will not be coming back here this behavior is truly disgusting and i think Phil was on drugs or had drugs upstairs definitely shady. What to say about the Sandbar? I think the best praise I can give it is that for our annual trip to fire island, my coworkers and I stake out this place 10 minutes before opening time. Every time. It's tradition. 15 minutes later (they always open 5 minutes late), we have a lineup of margaritas ready for us. The absolute best margaritas around. Nicely balanced - slightly sweet and a bit on the strong side - perfect. 10 minutes later, a lineup of one of their tasty shots - usually ice cream shot as it's a favorite of the group. And lastly, it's not really a trip to Sandbar without Kathy. The best bartender around, and always makes us feel like we're at home (even though we're clearly tourists). read more

Terrible bar, very bias. You can be waiting in line for hours at a time and they won't let you in until random strangers go in first. very biased and crowded. there are other bigger bars around d that will attend you at an appropriate time and still have a good time. the bouncers are not good and will not do their job and let you wait for a longer amount of time before you can enter while other random individuals just walk in and don't have in line whether it's premium or not. We went for a weekend with a group of six and explored different bars and restaurants for happy hour, dinner and breakfast. Each place was different in what they had to offer, but all the places were fun. The Sandbar is just a comfortable, casual place to hang out. You don't go for great food, but for the fun and friendly atmosphere they provide. We all liked the apps and the drinks. The Rocket Fuel was good but not strong enough for our crowd..LOL When we told the bartender he poured us more without any problem. He was really fun and friendly. There was a guy playing guitar and singing who was really good and he got the entire place to sing along with him for every song, which was also really fun. This is the place to go for a relaxing fun time after you spend the day at the beach, which is what we did. They also have outside seating so you can watch all the people passing by and enjoy all the night time activity. I read the reviews about the prices of the drinks, but drinks at all of the places on Fire Island were about the same. I just like the fact that everyone here was really nice and relaxed, which is the whole purpose of going to Fire Island. It was a nice way to end the summer. read more

First off, watch your receipts. I bought one drink - a rocket fuel which cost a whopping $17. I gave $2 tip and my total was $19. My credit card was charged $23! They decided I owed them $5 on one drink and changed my receipt themselves! Also they want everyone to go deaf in there. Bring very good ear plugs. While we were waiting for the Ferry back to Bayshore, we stopped in for a beer and to watch the Yankee game. The inside of this establishment is quite colorful and bright. There is a long bar at the back of the restaurant bar with plenty of seating and flat screens. Since I only had a beer, I can not comment on the food. But the beer was good. read more

If you want an incredibly fun & chill & perfectly imperfect beach bar... This place IS for you. For my group of friends sandbar is an absolute gem and a staple of ocean beach. The bartenders are awesome, the drinks are always strong, the music (live bands during the day and DJ at night) are always totally on point, there's a free buffet with Bar food, fun shirts and sunglasses, midnight make out is hilariously amazing... And overall this it the spot to be if you wanna have fun & let loose with your friends. Kathy & Chelsea are the best bartenders. The bouncers are always great. Cute little stop during our day trip NYc to fire island. They had a live band inside, but we opted for outdoor dining as weather was incredibly gorgeous. The staff is a little all over, but we can blame all the new rules and restrictions they have to abide by. For lunch I ordered the chicken sandwich. It was simple, fresh and satisfying. Since Fire Island is basically a developed Sand bar itself, our group of rowdy hooligans thought it might be fun to mix with the local culture on a Saturday night. Now, before this cultural adventure you should have at *least* 5 margaritas because when you're grinding with a five foot tall balding 22-year old that keeps his tan year round and lives off protein shakes and the word "yo" you'll need a serious buzz. The doorman here was my absolute favorite, total beefcake who touched his balls in some way once every 3 seconds. I was informed that it was highly likely the guy had just shaved his balls and couldn't stay away from them...but that's neither here nor there. While there are three bars on the main drag, Sand bar is a prime destination. This is probably because of their extremely popular Piña Colada drinks that mix well with 'roids and the smell of crabs wafting through the bar...oh and it smells like shellfish as well. The cherry on top was that they were playing the "King of Queens" family sitcom on the big screens providing the sole lighting in the bar. The saving grace? The tunes are on point here...Boy II Men, ABBA, Whitney...they have it all. We were singing along and dancing like crazy despite the creepy prowlers and $12 cocktails. read more

Sunday Funday is always so much fun. Live music and plenty of room for dancing. They have spiked seltzer's now which is a great way to pace yourself for a long day of drinking in the heat. Cool effects like a smoke machine, games and blasted AC which is good for hot days. read more

It contains chunks and particles of undigested pizza from that college kid's vomit that had a few too many and couldn't make it to the toilet. We came here for lunch before heading out to the beach. It's a pretty expensive restaurant, but I guess that's what you get when you're on an island and can't really get food elsewhere. We all had margaritas and they weren't very strong. My friends also had the ice cream shot, which they said tasted pretty good. The food was okay, although not as good as it usually is in a normal bar. The fish and chips literally came with potato chips even though it's really supposed to come with french fries, so I guess they either didn't know that or people on this island actually prefer chips...The buffalo chicken wings were ok although they didn't have much sauce on them at all. Stopped in during a rainy Saturday afternoon of walking around Ocean Beach. My friends and I were dying for oysters and beer and this was the first spot we stumbled into. Granted, half the crowd consisted of a a rowdy bunch of college boys who demanded that we dance before passing them-a good time was still had. They've got a few board games to keep you busy while you wait for your waiter to come around...and believe me-you're going to WAIT! We actually ended up walking up to the bar to order our second round since our server was MIA. Great live music too-a guy with a guitar doing anything from "Pour Some Suga on Me" to Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours." Left to go to another bar & grab ice cream but when we came back, all I saw were endless hootchie mamas with mini skirts going in. Napkins are all over the floor and you feel as though you will have a seizure with the crazy lights and super loud music. You have to be drunk and it has to be really late for you to hang here. I love this place, it's dog friendly, kid friendly. Me and my little Jada dog had a blast watching the kids play on the beach while hubby was playing with his buds at the bar. The atmosphere here is very welcoming and everyone treated me like an old friend. The bar tender cooked up a couple of burgers for my little Jada with no bun on a plate they had a bowl of water at all times for puppies. I love this place. read more
