This is a great little spot on your walk in ocean beach. They have a nice bar area, which a cute mirror for selfies. They have so many unique things to check out inside. Also you can pull up to this location by boat and tie up for lunch. They have lunch and dinner here. With a nice patio seating outside, and on a little beach area. The cocktails are great, the bartenders are fast and a good time! read more

Houser's Bar is everything I want in a dive bar. Service was great. Drinks were flowing. This was my first time trying a Zippy and I was very impressed. We came back here several hours later for dinner and wow! Compliments to the chef. The lobster special was fantastic! I did not expect to get so much lobster for such a reasonable price ($30), but left pleasantly surprised, and stuffed! read more

I came here with my sister while visiting Ocean Beach extremely hot day in the end end of June. We came in because we saw the advertisement outside for drink specials that we're all day. My sister really wanted to try the zippy we walked in and we saw a bar area with the pool table. Afterwards, we walk to the back and we saw the outdoor area overlooking the bay, which was so beautiful. We sat down and our waitress. Amanda was really sweet. She provided great customer service and the zippy was incredible. I then order the PBR special which was only six dollars for food. I ordered the burger deluxe, which was $18 and came with fries on the side which I thought was a great deal for lunch as well. During the middle of our lunch, Amanda said she had to go to break and transferred our check to Jake. Jake was very nice as well and he informed us of the local Bayshore area and fire Island, which was nice to talk to him about the vibes and the service was great at housers. I know other yelpers and other reviews have said that the service was bad. However, my service was absolutely incredible from Jake and Amanda. I would definitely recommend Housers for their daily drink special. Make sure to order the zippy!!!! read more

This was a fun little spot on fire island. We first got some classic zippys and the inside is old and interesting to say the least. The bathrooms are not great (and they even have a sign that says so...) but they get the job done. The outside patio is really nice though, with tables both in the sand and on concrete. We grabbed some food and it was honestly really good! I got the fish and chips and really enjoyed it. A lot of people at the table got the lobster which was a hit too. Also note, they charge more for paying with card read more

The past reviews on here about Houser's crack me up. If you came to this place looking for a Michelin star meal, you're a true cidiot on Fire Island. For those of us that grew up across the bay frequenting these haunts, we know the drill. This is a bar bar. A seafarers bar. A dingy place to slam Zippys, laugh with friends, play pool, hang out on the sand, and wait in lines for bathrooms. If you want to eat, there are options here. The lobster dinner is a go to, best price point for it in all of OB. Apps are decent enough. But if you're trying to have a sit down with friends, do your research and go somewhere else. If you're looking to have a rip-roaring late night fun time, you've found the right place. To those that gave this place one star, my suggestions is that Housers isn't the problem... your expectations are. I bet you complain about swinging the lights at the albatross too lol . read more

Went on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Bartender must have been under the influence. He threw my friends credit card across the bar & referred to me as "b*tch". Never have seen that in an establishment. Management needs to take a look at what happened & what kind of staff they are employing. Disgusting. read more

I first went to Housers for some drinks with friends. It's a lively bar in Ocean Beach with delicious drinks- don't miss the Zippy!! I recently had dinner hear and was thoroughly impressed! Now, I am allergic to seafood so had the chicken tacos. I can't believe how delicious they were! I went back a second time for them! One of my friends had the lobster special and I can't believe how much lobster they served! It's the best lobster deal on the island! We split a few apps- nachos, avocado bites and clams for a few friends, and all were very good. Definitely an island staple! read more

Was in there last Thursday...vibes were absolutely vibing. There was a big dude named slooty (sp?) and another bartender named Billy working. When they played unwritten the crowd went nuts. We weren't planning to come to Housers but the music playing grabbed my attention. The signs advertising the specials sealed the deal. We sat out back with a nice view of the early night sky changing colors. Ordered some drinks that were made well. The waitress was awesome and I wish I knew her name to give her credit. She informed us that the shrimp was sold out. So we're done other items. It was the last day before the place was closing for the season. She stressed that there were lobsters and they were fresh. I asked about the mussels and she said they were awesome. So, I got the mussels and she was so right! I also got the lobster and it was so perfectly cooked! The waitress suggested that I dip my lobster in the left over mussel sauce and that was a great idea! So good!!!! My friend got the burger special that was advertised. Delicious! read more

DON'T EAT HERE!! Apparently this place doesn't want your business if they keep it like a pig sty. It's filthy & especially the bathrooms They say you can tell a places kitchen by its bathroom. Board of health needs to pay this place a visit !!!! read more

I have never been treated more rudely by a bartender in my entire life. The OLD man bartending needs to get out of the hospitality business immediately. When my friend took longer than 5 seconds to count our cash to pay for our drinks the bartender proceeded to yell "just give me the 20 asshole." And after we payed he slammed the change down on the bar in front of us. Woman behind us said "I'm scared to order now." Men behind us asked if we were ok and agreed the whole encounter was insanely rude and unwarranted. Asked for a water and the same bartender sprayed the soda gun at us and did not serve us a water- Ridiculous. Save your money and go to ANY other bar that cares about their customers, these people do not deserve a dime. read more

This place SUCKS! This place SUCKS! This place SUCKS! This place SUCKS! This place SUCKS! This place SUCKS! This place SUCKS! This place SUCKS! Mozzarella sticks comes in 6 and they gave me 5. Who can't do fucking simple math in the kitchen. My wife ordered the "special" shrimp tacos... came with lettuce tomato & onions. WTF! Had to ask for water twice since no one asked on this 90 degree day! If I was an asshole I would skip on the bill... but I'm an asshole. read more

Food was terrible and a rip off. Ordered shrimp tacos from the specials and it was two soft tacos with lettuce, tomato and onions + cold shrimp. Garbage. The sauce they gave was sour cream and salsa. Probably the worst tacos I've ever had. Guess how much for two tacos?! $16! Rip off. If you do come here, skip the food + just save yourself, get the drinks. The service was slow and had two ask for water twice. Check took about 10 min longer than it should've. read more

One word: Zippy. This place has the BEST zippys by far in all of ocean beach. There's a really fun, big bar on the inside with darts and a pool table. There's music at night-- beats range from pop to throwbacks -- with people dancing and chilling. Outside there's open table seating with a gorgeous view of the bay, so you can grab a drink and sit outside with friends. They have food, but I haven't tried it. It's not fancy, overly clean or pretentious, but this is the perfect beach town bar & night scene. read more

Worst establishment! My wife and I were meeting our friends for dinner at 7:30PM. The kitchen closed at 8PM and we arrived at 7:40PM to be told that the kitchen had already closed. Our friends already ordered a few minutes before we arrived and we pleaded with the waitress to place an order with theirs to be told coldly, no. The manager was no more helpful or empathetic. He belligerently yelled at my wife and said there was nothing he could do even though the kitchen, right behind him, was busily cooking food. No excuse, no way to treat people. Avoid at all costs. read more

Long before I ever stepped foot on Fire Island I heard way more than I needed to about these famous Zippy Coolers, so of course I had to pay a visit to Houser's as soon as I arrived. I love this kind of local place that's probably been around forever and doesn't really care about petty things like being super stylish or hip or even very clean. Turns out a Zippy Cooler is a pretty simple and unremarkable cocktail but somehow is perfectly refreshing on a hot day hanging out on the patio. They'll also make you a Rocket Fuel, which is like a stronger piña colada... I think? We came at a dead time which is probably why I enjoyed myself so much, so be warned that during peak island times it will get crazy! read more

Service was so disrespectful. Miscommunication between our group of ordering drinks at the table or the bar, so told we were cut off and kicked out after our friends arrived late and brought drinks to the table. Ryan aggressively dropped the check, knowing she was getting gratuity. Host was rude, water boy was rude, service was rude. Under staffed? No reason to be terribly rude and ruin our time. On top of chicken tenders and fries taking an hour. It was a holiday and we were more than willing to spend money, without those attitudes. Never again And their bathrooms were DISGUSTING, I would have rathered peed in the sand read more

Don't order the "lobster special" absolutely disgusting. They advertise it as a steamed lobster, it is a boiled lobster, I cracked open the lobster with the rusted lobster crackers they gave me and a cup of briny juice poured out of the lobster, the corn on the cob was also boiled undercooked and uneatable. I asked for a new lobster cracker that was clean that didn't have rust and gunk on it and was given another one even more disgusting, they clearly don't wash them and don't care if their guests consume rust. I was a chef for years and I wouldn't serve this meal to someone I disliked. I let the server know about the meal as feedback for the kitchen and was given an attitude worse then the my undercooked lobster. If it wasn't for the constant turnover of new business from a popular tourist destination this place would be out of business. read more

It was after 2 am and everywhere else was closed. My boyfriend and I were looking for a water and/or soft drink and walked in to a Houser's where there was a bartender and 3 men playing darts. We asked for the drinks, non-alcoholic and the bartender laughed in our faces and was extremely rude and yelled "get the fuck out of my bar" and refused to serve us. We obviously were going to pay for the beverages and tip, but just because we did not want alcohol he acted like an asshole. Someone who hates their life should not be bartending. I can't wait to tell my friends and family my experience here and to never go. I also have friends that work at neighboring restaurants and bars on fire island and will have them spread the word. read more

Bar / Hotel /. Restaurant / Fire Island That just about covers it! Kickin bar in the land of NO - but it still rocks out with live music and a great bar scene... The beautiful thing about Ocean Beach is that you can stumble from place to place and do it all night long. Many nights there is live tunes there and very good bartenders. Darts and pools tables are available and I've never had a bad time here! A must hit if over on Ocean Beach No parking - no cars. read more

Two words. Zippy. Coolers. If you're hangin' in the land of 'No', say yes to a few of these bad boys, especially during happy hour when they're only $6. Sure, these things are pink and you have to say 'I'll have a Zippy Cooler' to get one, but they are potent and refreshing. Beyond the Zippy, Houser's is a fun dive on the island with a nice sandy outdoor area overlooking the bay. The menu is respectable here too. Respectable in the fact that they don't try to go too far. It's simple fried/bbq food (along with some fresh lobsters I saw that looked pretty darn good) and it comes at a decent price. This might be the only place on FI not trying to completely rip you off. Don't come here expecting a nice TV to watch the game, a gourmet meal or for people in white pants. Come with your sandals and a thirst for a zippy and a burger. You'll do just fine. Protip: Bathroom is gross. read more

100% the worst bar i've ever been to. i walked in with my 3 friends and we where all 21+ obviously. the bartender wasn't accepting my sisters out of state id (she was visiting from new jersey)and was screaming at us for no reason even after we provided another form of identification. he rudely yelled at her and all of us calling her stupid for even coming in to the bar. the bartender then was holding extremely tight onto my sisters credit card as i tried to grab it and wouldn't give it back. he was so rude, crazy to me that this guy ever chose to be a bartender if he's so miserable. i live in fire island and i've never had a bad experience in a bar until i walked into housers. i will never be coming to them again and i will also probably tell all of my friends in fire island not to walk into the nastiest deserved zero star disgusting bar read more

So imagine this... you head to Fire Island for a day of fun and relaxation. You start at a bar and enjoy a nice conversation with the lovely lady who was bartending. You proceed to your second watering hole (Housers). Once you get talking to the bartender you find out the first bartender you may or not have been hitting on is the second bartender's girlfriend. Instead of getting mad, Jens treats you like a gentleman and serves the best Zippys east of the Mississippi. I would be lying if I said I have met a more respectable gentleman than Jens in the last year. Also they are still together, a true love story.... 10/10 would recommend. read more

Will avoid going forward. Overpriced even at such a remote location. The lobster rolls had a bad taste (white meat too) as if they were out of a can and a more cheap mayo than ever seen with micro portions. Huge disappointment. Mahi mahi was a another tiny portion but slightly better. Forget about the tacos, I certainly will. Appetizers were decent; fried fare, simple clams and shrimps which were ok but did not redeem the rest of the food. Should've read the reviews before I went in. The food was overshadowed by the excellent service. The waitresses are excellent, kind, and bartender super friendly. Loved the staff and wish them well! Owners and other staff on the premises were also very kind and had warm smiles galore. Go for beers and to relax well in their nice atmosphere. Perhaps eat before you stroll in! Caveat emptor. read more

Basically the only place to eat in OB that isn't crazy overpriced. Over MDW they ran out of a lot of different menu items, so that was slightly annoying. At night, the crowd here gets really rowdy- I enjoyed it more during the day. Zippy's are the way to go here. Bathroom line gets out of hand when it's busy; also a bit annoying. The bartender here refused to serve me and my 5 25-26 year old friends because our IDs are from out of state. When we questioned him he screamed at us and demanded we get out of the bar. It was about 7pm on a Wednesday night and the bar was empty - maybe due to the incredibly poor customer service. We were here 3 times last weekend, are all of legal drinking age, and this bartender was clearly on a power trip. Safe to say we will not be returning here. read more

STAFFED BY THIEVES... My friends and I ignored the 1 star reviews. we regretted it. long story short, we were overcharged $40 - $80. After arguing and missing the ferry, the manager or whoever the lady there is didn't refund the money. The cash payment we originally made wasn't entered into the system by the waiter. We were too trusting when they came back to the table asking for more money only to realize the scam after. Avoid this place...it really isn't worth the hassle or the obnoxious treatment you get when making a legitimate dispute. Maybe it was a mishandling of money on their part or maybe they stole it purposely. Either way this buisness stole our money and gave bad excuses that dont hold up to logic or reason. STAY AWAY! Keep in mind: They use stalling/illogical arguing to wait out the matter. They know most people must return to civilization the same day and can't waste time there. I got the bacon shrimp quesadilla special on June 27, 2019. It was delicious!

Great and divy, this is where you go to watch girls slur at each other in line for the bathroom or to play darts and drink on the cheap. We had over a week where we went here 4 times in that period. I grew up going to FI since I was younger so I get the people, area etc. Foods kinda overpriced like the whole area, just get something basic if you need to eat there. One of the bartenders was a dick to me when I tried to order a drink, having me wait for over 10 minutes while he looked over at me 4 times in the process while talking to idiots in popped collars. The bar stools were lined with locals and staffers from town, I know because i spoke to lots of them over the course of our time on the island. The inside barely had anyone there (not a weekend) (sad trombone) - We were charged for some of the weakest, zero alcohol mixed drinks since I was forced to go to TGI fridays with my mom around christmas visiting LI. Sorry bad music blasting bartender dude, i'm not a tourist and i'm pretty sure you don't live on the island year round so that makes you a non-local as well. I slung drinks for 2 years at a dive and know patrons order boozey drinks and not sherley temples for a reason, they want at least a shot of booze in their drinks. I get it - it sucks when it's a slow start off to the season for you, but if I see you tending bar again next time, you'll be sure when we come back to town with 10 friends next weekend to show them why I Love Fire Island that we're turning around and going elsewhere. Yelpers - Do yourselves a favor, pre game before and get a canned beer if you have the taller somewhat heavy set dude on bar inside, trust me. read more
