Reading the other reviews, I wonder why Justin hacked my hair so badly? I asked for a long pixie and got a mans haircut. Something short and sassy turned into something to say the least. I asked to keep my crown long, it's now about an inch and a half in length. It was totally his design, my hair was below my shoulders when I went in. He should have just said he couldn't handle the cut rather than insult me like he did. IMO, stay clear unless you have a nice cut he can tip off for you. Notice all the photos are long layers. I just had my hair fixed after 3 weeks of trying to live with it. Yeah, he totally got lost and just left it screwed up. Must be why he didn't give me a mirror. I've never not had someone give me a mirror before. He even took my tip, he should be ashamed. Well, it's been about 10 weeks since my haircut. I've had 2 freebie haircuts from someone who isn't charging me until my hair can use an actual haircut. He said, "For the Profession." he was so ashamed of the cut I got from Justin. He thinks one more trim up and I'll be ready for an actual styling again. Yes, I'm getting 3 free haircuts from a stranger to make up for this nightmare. read more

My hair were as dead n dry as the lawns in winters!! I was in desperate search for a great hairstylist in my neighbourhood. One yelp search n bingo!! Found The Rusty Shears- even better, found a groupon for it too!! Sweet :) Justin does online appointments,I had a scan at his schedule for approaching saturday and his calendar looked full except for 10AM! What did I do? Grabbed it of course!!! Come saturday, I went there groggy eyed with my miserable tresses...he was very attentive to what I had to say n my concerns. Justin was very gentle n professional the whole time! He briefed me at the beginning of the haircut, what he plans to do in order to address my concerns. He gave me great tip to keep hair looking great...! I noticed he took a little longer to style my haircut but absolutely no complaints!! The results were mind blowing!!! I could see my lifeless hair being transformed right there in front of my eyes :D He is very dedicated to what he is doing!!! I got compliments from my friends and I didn't waste a minute to recommend Justin to them. His studio is very well set up with nice touches n cleverly organised! Buhlown away! Justin is amazing! And it's not just about the cut, it was everything. I needed a new hairdresser, a friend suggested groupon and I found Justin. I called, got his voicemail and ordinarily would have hung up and moved on but left a message. I think it was less than an hour later that he called me back. It was late morning on a Saturday and I told him I'd love to come same day but it was totally cool if he was booked. Turned out I was lucky, he could see me at 5pm. When you go, the sign outside says Salons by JC. You go in and let the lady at the desk know you're there for Justin. She walked me back, let him know I was there, he very cheerfully said hi and I sat to wait in the hallway. I don't know what they're calling these places but you get a private room, it's pretty cool. When he was done with his client he kind of introduced us, her hair was gorgeous and looked so soft! I sat in his chair and whipped out a pic. It was a pic of me with a hairstyle I'd had a few years ago that my husband has been requesting I get again. I'd shown it to two previous hairstylists but they didn't cut it the same. It's a fairly simple bob. Anyway, I wanted it because I have one of the greatest guys on the planet and he asks very little of me. The only problem was, I got to thinking that I really didn't want to go that short again. Justin picked up on that and encouraged me to talk about what I really wanted. I still really just wanted to make my husband happy. In the end, he suggested a compromise. Since my face is longish, he suggested we do the same cut, just a little longer version. First, let me just say that by the time he was done I'm not sure I even noticed my hair. I'd had such a good time talking to him. He's a really great guy. I barely even noticed what he was doing with my head the entire time. He was incredibly gentle when he washed it, and never pulled it and even blow-drying, never once made it noticeably hot. I've been told I have a 'tender scalp' because when you pull my hair it hurts or hit it too long in one place with the blow dryer, yea I've had to bite my lip before when a hairdresser was hurting me. So when he was done and asked me what I thought, it was almost like, what do I think about what? Haha Probably talked his ear off tho ;) I was impressed, he had duplicated the cut perfectly, shape and all and it was just a slightly longer version. And yea, it looked freakin good! He scanned the groupon and because I'm a goofball I forgot to get cash so I asked if I could charge the tip. He said I didn't need to do that. Like seriously, I kinda had to insist. If he'd of had products, I'd of bought them. Just because he was so.darn.nice. Not gonna lie, I really hate having products shoved down my throat at salons. I got in my car and sent my husband a text.. Head's up, it's not the exact same cut. I walked in the door and his jaw dropped. Honestly, I think I'm a little taken aback by the entire experience. He's so obviously in his comfort zone, he's the most personable hair dresser I've ever had and he spent so much time talking with me beforehand about what I wanted that I started feeling a little guilty! Mind you, my hair is naturally curly, and for those who know what it's like to have curly hair, humidity and rainy weather is your natural sworn enemy! It is really hard to find a good stylist with my hair type. It is very frizzy and thick, and I have had a fair share of stylists who didn't know how to handle my hair and ended up really messing it up. I almost cancelled my first appointment a couple of days beforehand because I was afraid of having another bad experience. I'm so glad I ended up going. Justin was fantastic (he specializes in curly hair) and gave me a beautiful cut and blow out, which is quite a feat for my hair. After seeing the picture of the "Holiday Salted Carmel Ombre" on this Yelp page, I knew I wanted to book Justin for hair color! This was back in March around SXSW, and he was booked for a couple days. I was a bit impatient so I tried to dye my hair purple at home. BIG MISTAKE! So I write a desperate email to Justin at midnight asking for hair color help before I have to go to meetings the following day. (I did not want to be seen in public with my DIY-at-home-botch-job!) Justin called me in the morning apologizing that he was indeed booked, but he would do his best to find me another stylist to help. How amazing is that!? Sure enough he calls back a bit later with a booking with another stylist in the same building. I was able to get my hair fixed that day, and it turned out SO good. And Justin even came by between his own appointments to check how things were going with my hair. Justin is extremely talented with color! He is clearly a true artiste who is able to listen to the client, imagine the possibilities, and execute a color and cut that is even better than what the client could have imagined for herself. WOW! He made my teenage daughter so happy today. No small feat. (We have lived in Austin 10 years and have been yet to find a stylist she truly loved ... until today.) How do you make purple and pink reverse ombre look almost natural? Ask Justin. It's a mystery to me. He did it, it's absolutely beautiful, and it's a look that I'm pretty sure few people could accomplish. His salon is very clean, welcoming, relaxing, and is separate from other stylists in the building. I love that my daughter had his undivided attention. A stylist at a large salon would likely take longer to do a similar process because they are trying to balance two clients at once (which also increases the likelihood of color mishaps). Didn't even make it after waiting 1.5 months to come in. Booked from 2-5 pm says there's a cancellation and can I make it a littler earlier. Sure, maybe 30 minutes or so. At 1:30 after rushing to get out of work I tell him I will be there at 2. Suddenly that doesn't work and he has other clients scheduled. How? I had a 3 hr slot booked! Doesn't make sense.
