I made an appointment for a basic trim as I am growing my hair out. The initial cut looked good. For whatever reason my stylist started to trim the left side shorter and shorter. The result is I have a section of hair that is an inch long while the rest of my cut is 3 inches. This is a lopsided hair cut and the worst I have ever had. One of the worst haircuts I've ever had. I paid $80 (which is already insanely overpriced) for a rushed, careless job. I explained multiple times exactly what I wanted, but he completely ignored me and did his own thing. It felt like he was just trying to get me out of the chair as fast as possible. The result? Uneven, sloppy, and nothing like what I asked for. I left feeling frustrated and ripped off. For that kind of money, you expect someone to listen, take their time, and deliver - none of which happened here. If you value your hair, your time, and your wallet, go literally anywhere else. FINALLY! The hunt for a new barber is over. I moved to Austin about six months ago, back in August, and I've dreaded the process of finding a barber ever since. Naturally, while looking for a place I could trust, I turned to Yelp reviews. Maybe it's a bad habit, but I tend to scroll to the lowest reviews first, ultimately scaring myself away from trusting the positive ones. While exploring Yelp, I stumbled upon Scruff's Barbershop and had a feeling I'd like it there. An almost perfect 5-star rating is hard to ignore, so I decided to give their team a call. I originally thought I was calling their 1st Street location since it's much closer to home, but I must have accidentally clicked on their East 5th location instead. (Best mistake ever, haha!) My call was quickly answered by Kit, who let me know I could be seen just a few hours later. I was excited but also nervous, a bad haircut can ruin anyone's day, and I really didn't want to deal with that. I'm so happy to report that everything went incredibly well. Cannot recommend seeing Breezy enough, especially for coloring needs!!! She really listens to what you want and works with you to provide masterpiece results. Plus she is so funny, kind, gentle, offers great advice, and just excellent at what she does. I have curly hair and needed some color/blending work and a haircut, and she gave me everything I wanted and more! We started with a conversation about my immediate and long term hair goals and I felt like she really listened and loved how she gave me options of things we could do that would allow me to accomplish my short and long term hair dreams. I needed to make my hair more "natural" looking than the very blocky ombré I had going on, but I wanted to keep some of the lighter/blonde bits. Breezy managed to do it all, blending the lighter bottom half of my hair together with the darker top half with a gorgeous balayage with some face framing lighter bits. I got the best of both worlds- natural and a lil blondie, exactly what I wanted! She was so gentle with my hair throughout the whole process and I really liked how she would explain to me what she was doing as she was doing it and would check in with me to make sure I was doing okay. And that hair wash/scalp massage?? Wow... I think I transcended to another plane during those moments. I would go back just for that...it was just SO.FREAKIN.GOOD!!!!! I was a little nervous to get my hair cut (as I always am lol) because I've had my hair shorter for a couple years and feel ready to grow it out, so I was anxious at how much of my damaged ends we would need to cut. Especially as my hair is curly, so any time I cut it, it seems to get a LOT shorter. Breezy talked me through the whole process and offered some suggestions on layers/things that would look more flattering, especially as it grows out. I felt so comfortable with what she was saying I felt like she knew exactly what I wanted and felt like it would be better to just trust her vision so I gave her free range to work her magic, and omg WOW did she deliver!!! Every time I get my haircut, I usually wake up the next morning with a little bit of regret, but I woke up today and feel damn good about my hair. When you find someone that is this good at what they do, you do your best to never let them go. I will definitely be back to see her in the future, and look forward to working with her to accomplish my hair dreams. I will refuse to gate keep, which is why I wrote this essay on why you should go see Breezy too, you won't regret it!!! read more

As a stylist myself, I knew to come prepared with what I liked and didn't like. My barber, Darren, was great and was good company too. I like what he's doing with my hair and I like that he's helping me make some good choices. He's turned me I to a Kevin Murphy Touchable fan. I can't get enough of this stuff. Great atmosphere with clever details and the barbers all get along and the "Free Britney" t-shirts they wear....perfect. I don't even like to submit negative reviews, but this was an upsetting experience and way overpriced! Charged $35 for a 5 minute easy beard trim; but it turned out horrible. Worst barber experience I've ever had, to be honest. I asked Richie (I think was his name) for a fade. He said sure, then proceeded to trim my beard. He didn't use a straight razor to line me up, and it was uneven. When I pointed it out, he told me it was because of the scarring on my cheek....I don't even have any scars on my face! So that was weird. Just seemed lazy. Then, he told me he didn't have time for a fade, after he already started trimming my beard. They weren't even busy. And it felt like he rushed the trim, lined it up horribly and left me with 5 o'clock shadow. I had to go home and clean it up myself. I wasted my time and money, just to end up shaving it myself afterward. And I didn't even get a fade. After paying a minimum $35 for the worst beard trimming experience, they don't even apply beard oil/cream at the end. At least provide something nice at the end if you're gonna charge the most for the least amount of work. Somehow, I left scruffier then when I arrived. I definitely expected more, I was highly disappointed! I would recommend finding a real barber who takes pride in their work, one who actually cares about their customers. read more

This was the furthest from me, but had the availability I needed and checked the other box so I booked a cut. I could not be more satisfied. Mike Abney is super friendly, great at cutting, and gave me the best cut I've had in years, with very little explanation from me since I'm not expert in all the descriptors.
