We came here with friends the other night, the place has lots of ambience and pretty good food, but it's definitely on the pricy side for the style of food so probably a sometimes thing. Our friends ordered chips and dips for the table; the pimento cheese and homemade potato chips were the stars. We weren't looking to have a super pricy meal so we skipped the steaks and went for the sandwiches. We ordered a spicy chicken sandwich and the burger with intention of splitting them. Hubby added a twiced baked potato to his, I did not add a side. The spicy chicken sandwich was not even remotely spicy. Which surprised me -- that's something that we expect every time we go out to eat at home in Maryland where the locals think a shake of black pepper is nuclear -- but not back in Texas. It was really a grilled cheesed sandwich with some fried chicken in it. It tasted very good, don't get me wrong, but someone forgot the spicy big time. The burger take 2 was pretty good; take 1 got sent back because I ordered medium well and got medium rare. While I get my steak medium rare, I don't like rare ground beef. Ick. I don't usually send things back but I had to this time. Anyway, take 2. The burger came with cheese, a little shredded brisket and green chiles. It was slightly spicy (but not a lot) and pretty flavorful. I don't think it really needed the brisket honestly. I'd have rather had just the green chile cheeseburger and drop a few bucks off the price tag. The twiced baked potato was pretty good. Soda refills were not forthcoming and we left without my having been offered one. They also are stuck in the 90s, offering only diet coke and no coke zero. Le sad. Mainly, I'm being a bit critical because of the price points being high -- I expect better at that price. Still rounding to 4* because flavorwise the food was tasty. But all in I'd probably give it a 3.5 given the snafus and price to value. read more

Came by for lunch and tried their Rustic chicken sandwich and tortilla soup. Overall it's a nice ambiance and especially when the weather's nice and they have the wall open to the patio. The food was decent but nothing to rave about. Tortilla soup was very tasty and the Rustic chicken sandwich was flavorful with pico packed in it. Although the food was decent, the service was quite slow. Maybe it was just because it was lunch time but felt like I was waiting for a while for the waiter to come by and take orders. read more

My family came here for Father's Day last week & it was as expected! It was our waiters first day on the job & he did awesome. We ordered appetizers, entrees & a dessert. Credit where credit is due. We called at 7:30 pm to make a reservation for 9 at 8:30. We showed up at 8:25 and were asked by the hostess "are you okay with sitting outside". It was a heated/ tented outside but very removed from the live music and very much an outside vibe . We were disappointed and stuck (we had valet 3 cars ) I informed them that information wasn't clarified on the phone- we didnt want to sit outside. They offered us to sit separately and we politely declined. They had us wait 30 minutes and made it happen. Could it have been smoother? absolutely. Do mistakes happen? Also yes. These folks were so apologetic and so damn nice that we could be anything other than grateful. The manager, hostess and waitress all apologized so much our server was so damn great. She was patient, prompt and kind with our littles. The manager even brought out apps for us. As a patron, i know mistakes happen but when management goes out of their way to correct the inconvenience- it really does make a difference. The hot chicken sand which, chip dip, mac n cheese, burgers, tamales, deviled eggs, and onion rings were nothing short of fantastic. Every dish was absolutely picture worthy and had the taste to match it. No pictures this time because our party was hungry and devoured every morsel. booked here for our team dinner and it costed $2500. there were around 20 girls and and their moms, and the only food we got was 3 small bowls of mac n cheese, a few plates of broccoli and corn bread, and 3 steaks and 3 plates of chicken, to share between 20 GIRLS. this doesn't even include the parents because they got nothing. They also charged extra for most drinks. we had finished all the food in seconds with each girl getting a few bites of food, and asked them to bring more and they told us that's all we got. we payed $2500 to eat basically nothing and still leave hungry. we tried talking to management but they were no help. i will never return to one of these restaurants. read more

This is probably the worse food Ive ever had, the "redfish on the shell" was so heavily paprika'd it was almost inedible, it was dry and just so overpowered with seasoning I found it impossible to taste the actual fish. My granddaughter had the cedarplank salmon, she also didnt eat it. I have zero idea how this restaurant is still open. I asked for broccolini and never got it, Im sure I was charged for it. My party of five came here for brunch and we all decided on the family style brunch for five! It was an immaculate spread of food including rosemary French toast (super unique!), sausage, bacon, quiche, salad, small pastries, fried chicken with amazing maple syrup, yogurt parfaits, and the star of the show: those cheesy hash browns!! We definitely could've opted for brunch for 3 or 4 because it was so much food but we all took some home. We also split a carafe of mimosa and it was good, a basic but delicious drink! Came here for brunch with a group of fellow breasties and had a fun time catching up with everyone. Riley took great care of us. Service and food was amazing (highly recommend the shared brunch spread!) and good ambiance as well. Not overly crowded but enough to feel like it was a busy happening spot. And even if every table was filled, they were spaced apart enough to allow a comfortable amount of room so you wouldn't feel boxed in. The place is huge. There is a very large dining area and there is also a lot of seats at the bar, plus the two outside sections. The day we went, there was a band playing live music. It was a little loud but not too bad because we were not right on the stage. Service: Would say that the service was really, really good. They were quick. Our section had more people than other sections, so we ended up getting some extra help. Our waitress was really nice and tried to help with the menu, though she said she was not as knowledgeable about the entire menu. However, one of the managers (I assume that is what he was) came over and went through some of the most popular dishes and also the most recommended dishes. Was served by Camryn with Chad as the manger (I think). Food: I would call it mid-high American food (burgers, steaks, fries). Started with deviled eggs, which are basic devil eggs with a piece of fried chicken skin on the top. The chicken skin does not do much to the dish. I actually took that off and ate the egg by itself. Chad recommended the meatballs as an appetizer and the salmon burger for entree. The meatballs are not like most meatballs. They are coated in a sweet sauce that my wife really liked. They are not big but you get a lot and they do pack a punch, unless you want traditional Italian meatballs then you will be disappointed (but if you want Italian meats then you should go to an Italian restaurant). I tried to eat all of them but we had too much food. The salmon burger was one of the better salmon burgers I have ever had. The patty fell a part, which is my biggest complaint. The combination of pico de gallo with chipotle aioli works well together. Food might have been middle tier, not sure, but due to the fact that it was a recommendation and I really enjoyed it gets a bump. IF YOU DO NOT DRINK, try Cherry boba freeze. I am a man who enjoys a good Shirley Temple and this is the best Shirley Temple that I have ever had. We also were given a complementary piece of peanut butter pie as it was our first time eating there. Cake was huge, we were stuffed, ate some of it, and it was good but a ton of peanut butter. This is an excellent place for bigger parties, a nice low-key date night if you are in the bar/American food mood, and the food is solid. I finally made it by here for dinner a couple of weeks ago. Located in the old Champs location, I really like what Rustic did to the old space. It has a nice interior with a large bar area and larger dining room adjacent to the stage. From where I sat, I could see the outdoor courtyard out back. I have visited the downtown Rustic next to the GRB and both facilities are equally attractive and inviting as a cool place to have drinks, eat and hang out. On my visit here, I had the cedar plank salmon dinner with sides of broccolini and mac n cheese. It was one of the better salmon meals that I have had in a long time. Very delicious with that soft cedar flavor in butter. The broccolini was good and the Mac n cheese very good. Nice and cheesy rich! Table service was attentive and professional! I've only been here for brunch and tried their family style special as there was a big group. I thought this was a smart way to try a variety of things and it was all really good! The space is huge, and they have an outside option which was perfect. The brunch spread includes this for $16.99 per person: - fried chicken breast: juicy and well fried - fruit and cheese platter: berries and cheeses with crackers - frittata with salad: the frittata was okay, the salad was bomb - mini donuts - bacon and sausage - French toast - avocado toast The only thing is that if you're with a giant group that eats a lot, they already portion your amount so that each person basically gets about 1 item. Had the pleasure of checking out the Rustic in Uptown for dinner the other night. It was very spaced out with the table which was nice. I personally loved the feel of it. I can't wait to see how everything looks after they can have more events there again. For our appetizer, we ordered the queso which comes to you under a smoke filled dome to give that Smokey taste. This was pretty good. The pimento cheese that came with it though didn't have big enough chunks of cheese from my understanding of pimento cheese in the south. I then had the Texas hot fried chicken grilled cheese. Half of this sandwich was plenty filling. It wasn't overly spicy but just a bit of a kick. I would recommend this for even those who aren't huge spice fans. On the side I got an order of fries that have rosemary seed on them according to the waiter. They were slightly sweet and crisp. For dessert, we ordered the icebox s'mores cake simple because we were curious and national S'mores day of course. Wow. This was so rich in flavor that I could even finish half of it. Overall the service was great. The waiter of course had his mask on the entire time. He was sure to make sure to keep the drinks full the entire meal which was great. We ordered lemon drop martinis and got I don't know what...definitely NOT what we ordered. The food, however, was delicious. It does get a bit loud with the live music, but that's to be expected. This is The Rustic's second location in Houston. The other is located downtown. Huge venue. Free range food concepts. They opened first in Dallas in 2013. Not pet friendly. Live music venue with great food and tons of beer on tap and lots of yummy drinks. Bar area, tables, booths and outside seating. Weekends will have larger bands. Brunch on the weekends as well. An array of food choices. Salads, burgers, beef (lots of beef choices), amazing chicken sandwich, fish, quesadillas, tacos, fabulous wood Grilled Artichoke and more. Atmosphere is energetic here. It's loud, sometimes too loud when performers are playing or a Texas team is on tv. Service is usually fantastic. Been here many times and would say I've had good service 90% of the time. The food is pretty good. It's bar food so have the right expectation. They do have entrees that are decent but I suggest a burger to go with the environment. Drinks are good but they seem to be limited on liquor and draft beer. There is a heavy emphasis of Rustic Water which is there version of a Ranch Water. Would prefer to see more of a craft cocktail offering but still, good enough. I tried brunch and wasn't impressed so I'm going to stick with happy hours and late nights. The indoor and outdoor options are nice! The music seems to be mostly country. Usually a one-person band. It would be nice to have more variety. Maybe some rock and 80's? I would go to 4 stars if they could improve the drink menu and add more variety to the music. read more

Visited on a Saturday at 8 pm with a party of 4. Host told us there were 15 people ahead of us, but since it is such a huge place the wait was not long. Was seated inside by the bar immediately and it was very packed. There was a live band that performed for about an hour around 10 pm. If you want to have deep conversations, this is not the spot I ordered the mango margarita and appetizers. I was there for the booze! However, I'm a Grey Goose gal and they only had Stoli and Kettle. I really wanted to like this place. We came for a bday brunch and for me it wasn't a good experience. Our two waiters were almost non existent and it was a struggle to even get water from them. The brunch menu is big and it's cool how they bring everything out. But kind of sucks because a lot of it was not appealing to me and a few others. This place is great for drinks and appetizers, but not for entrees in my opinion. I went on a Friday for lunch and was disappointed with the experience. The service and taste of the food was average compared to other restaurants in the area, but they did have good drinks. Steak Laredo - we asked for it Medium and it arrived very well done, but thankfully the waiter took it back and brought another one that was correctly cooked. Half Roasted Chicken - this was probably the best food item I had, the chicken was nicely seasoned and still juicy, it did however feel very oily/buttery which is personally not my preference. Shells & Cheese - given the other reviews I was expecting so much more. The bread crumbs were a nice touch but I wish they would have been crunchy to add some depth in the texture going on. Flavor wise it tasted like an average Mac and cheese with a slight kick to it. Cactus Fries (not pictured) - tasted good but it was not what I was expecting. The breading tasted almost like a funnel cake which is not what I was expecting but it was still good. The sauce that came with them tasted soooo good. This place is very busy parking can be very tricky I parked on the side street of uptown. The place is very loud so be prepared to talk loudly/shout to reach the other side of your table. I went on Sunday and they had a live band which added to the noise level. I wasn't sure about who our waiter was. Had to figure out you push a button to have them come to you. During brunch time that is the only menu available nothing else and it's $17.95 per person. Another food was good I would give this place another chance but maybe during the slower time and definitely not during brunch. Our waiter was nice however he was very spread thin and kept forgetting things I wish I could give this place a higher rating but I stand by three star. read more

I came to this location after a not so amazing experience at another location and I HAD SUCH AN AMAZING TIME.... I asked to speak to a manager. My bartender Dylan who was also my server was SO attentive with the major and minor items. Ordered a drink? Bev nap dropped. Ordered food? Silverware dropped. Drink? Water filled or refilled. And honestly it's attention to detail like that that's appreciated. My friends and I had several shots, a few drinks, and menu items. Chicken, mac&cheese, tamales, artichoke, portobello mushroom, tortilla soup, and crab cakes. EVERYTHING was GOOD!!! So good I asked to speak to the kitchen manager! I've been to another location of the same chain. I literally posted how terrible the experience was. So. From recommendations, to checking on us, and even bringing us a complimentary dessert for our special occasion-- so helpful and super sweet! Our food was amazing and came out so quickly despite how busy it was! My friend and I both had the hot chicken sandwich and a side of large fries to share. The sandwich was packed with flavor and the hot texas ranch was sooo good. Lillian also recommended the legendary rustic Rita which was hugeee and the mango pop on top was a great twist. She brought us a peanut butter pie slice which was also huge we couldn't even finish it! But super delicious, the nuts and fudge really complimented the peanut butter. They also had a large amount of seating inside and some outside. From the inside you can enjoy some live music which is a nice treat! This is a great place for a date night, celebrating with friends or just kicking back for a bite or drink. They have plenty of parking as well as valet In the uptown park center. Right as I walked in I loved the environment of the inside and outside dining. The whole place was lit up with lights and TVs that were playing the latest sports games. Since the weather was pleasant that day, we decided to do outdoor dining. There were plenty of parking and seating options but I also know that they do have live music sometimes and even happy hour. I went in the evening but the menu did kind of disappoint me as it was more limited than I thought for it being an American restaurant kind of vibe. However, the waiter did his best in serving us which I greatly appreciate. Food-wise nothing blew me out of the water and I got tired of the burger which I had ordered and had to pack it to-go.
