We arrived at 2pm and signed up for a table for 2, they told us it was around 15 to 20 minutes, we waited 40 minutes, when I asked them again they told me they made a mistake with my phone number and if we still wanted a table we would have to wait another 40 minutes. Okay the food was amazing and the service was quick for how many people were in there, but there was this Woman named Sarah and she had an attitude on her. Food was pretty good but the service was terrible - they made us wait for a table that was cleared and ready to go because their kitchen was backed up - offered to give us to-go drinks as we stood there for 25 minutes (we made reservations) next to the table they ended up placing us. I came here with a friend for dessert one evening and it had a nice atmosphere with good live music, but the service was very slow and the quality of food was low and overpriced. I ordered an apple pie and it tasted like it came from a box in the freezer. I would not come here again for the food. read more

Went to the Roxy on Friday night a few weeks ago. The food was excellent. The drinks were good but not great. If you want beer or wine they have some nice suggestions. Also our service was fantastic and had a great two man band playing. They were so good had to tip them on the way out! The only challenge with the Roxy is the seating. They actually cramp everyone in pretty tight for my liking. This is a challenge they have to resolve. Overall, everything else was really well done, unique, and fun. Had a great dinner here. All the food was fresh. Our server Chandler was awesome. She gave us great suggestions such as the halibut which was a special. I wanted to like it, which is why I kept coming back hoping that it was a 1-off bad experience. The first time was a weekend afternoon, they were not busy, only had a couple of people at the bar, probably the bartender's friend from the way since we sat down and were never helped, so we got up and left. The 2nd visit was fantastic. Their bar manager is very knowledgable and hospitable -- i think he's the only one there that gets it. We had a couple of on-menu drinks, and he offered to work with us to make some different drinks to what we fancy -- he introduced us to a couple of gins we have not had before and made a very simple, but a delicious cocktail. We went back a couple of days later because we were happy about our 2nd experience. We sat at the bar, ordered what the bar manager had made us a couple of days prior -- i told him the exact ingredients and recipe (equal parts of 2 things, not hard) he said they have never had the things i ordered and that he doesn't know the recipe. i showed him a photo of the bottles, pointed them out on the shelf and nicely stated it was 50/50. He proceeded to go talk to someone else, question us, get out a recipe book and make some version of it, yet not using the only two liquors we requested. it was gross, we drank it and ordered something else. Since we were there and irritated, we still wanted another drink since we had driven down specifically to go there. We never got the last drink because: During our 3rd visit, there was a drug dealer sitting at the bar. Whatever, you do you, but I don't appreciate the staff joking about it and allowing it -- there were people in and out so quickly coming up to the bar, exchanging money for drugs and then leaving. The man has been there every time we have been there, so it's not like it was a one-off thing. He also takes his phone calls quite loudly at the bar, talks about how he needs to get drunk faster and etc... that's not someone i want to spend my afternoon with, yet the staff thinks it's funny. Aside from that, the lady on our left came and went a few times. Each time not saying anything to anyone, but the bartenders know she'll be back because she is a prostitute. THey save her wine, and put a napkin over it for her and quite loudly tell everyone at the bar about her. Then bartender's friends come in and we never get our drink because he is completely ignoring everyone else at the bar. Drug dealer needs a drink, we wanted a drink, and at that point, we just wanted to pay. We waited 25 minutes for eye contact even though we were doing everything we could to get his attention to either get a drink or the bill. Finally, with no apologies, we got our bill and left. This place is ridiculous. Maybe I'm just oblivious and it's a known spot for dealers and prostitutes, but I wouldn't expect that on a main street in a beachy, upscale city. Hopefully the bar manager takes his talents elsewhere because I wouldn't want to be associated with The Roxy. read more

Yum. Was driving through town and meeting friends for lunch. Felt like a good burger. The atmosphere was unique. The wallpaper was really fun. They had live music, which was nice. I had the Roxy burger with avocado. Loved it. The truffle fries were delicious. I also got to taste the kid's mac and cheese. Very tasty. I will try to come here next time I'm in town. The alcohol is ok but a bit pricey. Very limited veg menu so don't be fooled. Beware of "tip the band" that can automatically be added to your bill if you can't see that well in the dimly lit restaurant. The music was ok, but not memorable. Not in a hurry to return. The Roxy is an amazing place for dinner!!! The food is outrageously good. The steak was soo juicy and our appetizers were delicious. The decor is beachy meets Gatsby, which is unique to Encinitas. It has an amazing warm vibe and the drinks were fun and unique. Paula, the owner, came to the table and heard we were here for a special occasion and brought us champagne!! I have always loved this place. I feel like it's been there forever! Went with a girlfriend and her mama today. First time back in a looong time. Two years, probably. I moved east and don't make my way up a lot these days. It's fancier now. They did some sprucing. It looks nice! The menu is waaaay smaller and I missed a few items I used to have. I asked for a salmon harvest salad and they were out of it. Come to find out their salads are premixed? Uh...thought that was a bit strange. They were only out of the berries that were supposed to be included. Swell. Substitute the watermelon or tomatoes. Whatever. Nope. Can't do it. Huh?! And I must say the waiter was in such a hurry. Had trouble making eye contact. Was visibly annoyed with our questions. Had to get back to the long table of cute 20 somethings having a bachelorette brunch, I guess! So I had to order the Roxy salad. It was ok. Smaller than I remember. Kinda boring now. Salmon was great. The avocado was hard as a rock and that is the part I look most forward to. I'm on Medifast. A girl has to find some joy in each salad! Trying to get the waiter's attention was a crazy feat. He was so studiously and obviously trying to avoid eye contact. Don't run into my manically waving arm, mister. Sheesh! When he finally did come over, he acknowledged he was ignoring me by saying with complete annoyance, "and yes, you. What do you need?" Like I'm totally wasting his precious time. Yuck! As a former server, that's all there is to say about that kind of customer service! Not sure if I will be back. I may try other restaurants now before choosing to go back to Roxy. Unless I have a hankering for falafel. They have great falafel still! It's what my friend ordered on her salad. Oh and the other area the waiter blew was helping us with my friend's mom's limited diet. She just went through chemo. Her hair is just growing back l. We told the waiter she had a limited diet and what would you give to a kid, perhaps. No kid menu. Ok what would you suggest, Mr. Server? He shrugged! That was it! We almost left right there. My friend actually said out loud "Maybe we should go somewhere else!" But I was so hungry and we were there soooo...like I said, not sure I'll be back. Makes me sad! read more

I loved this place!! Great vibe, had brunch on Saturday, my waiter Brian was great! Friendly professional and although he was busy made sure I was acknowledged !! We recently went to the Roxy on a Wednesday evening around 6PM. We were the only ones in there except for a couple people at the bar. The waitress was nice but she rarely came by our table. If we needed anything we had to literally flag her down from across the room. For us being the only ones in there, the food actually took a really long time as well. Another bearded guy working there went around lighting candles but never once said hello or even cracked a smile as he passed by our table. The water also tasted really bad too, I'm sure a cheap filter would fix that issue. With better service, we might consider coming back. read more
