This little coffee stand was super busy when I arrived, but they work off of two lines and the baristas were more than capable at handling the high load of customers. I waited in line for less than 5 minutes and they processed my order quickly. I got two smoothies, a mixed berry without banana and a strawberry a banana and a protein puck. They had plenty of smoothie flavors to choose from, which you don't always find at a coffee stand. But the mixed berry was a little sweet for me and was just lacking something (probably the banana, but I'm allergic) I think I'd see if they could put some peanut butter or something else in it next time to make up for the bananas absence. My boyfriend really enjoyed his strawberry banana smoothie and the small snack selection they had actually had a pretty good variety of flavors. I'd come back to try their coffee because the girls working were so nice and they really were so good at their jobs, being able to handle such a heavy morning load of customers. This is my go to coffee place during Farmer's Market Season. Last year they changed owner and this year they seemd to made improvements: They now have an outdoor seating area. Sure it's in a parking lot but it's still a nice place to sit and have some java. They've extended the hours. I think they have more food options - Doughnut Boy doughnuts are what called out to me. There's a walk up window yet old habits die hard for me I still walk up to the drive thru windows. The espresso is good. They do a long pour. My 3 shots fill a large cup. Staff is always friendly. We love this small family drive up near Reno high school. The girls are always smiling and working hard. They run two windows and do a great job keeping cars moving through. They offer a good variety of milks such as soy, almond, oat for example. Along with the staples whole, low and non fat variety. They will customize your coffee and tea drinks to your desire. Recommend you give the blended spiced vanilla chai ( try it with Almond or oat milk!) a try. Sweet and cold on a warm day. Good stuff hot or cold. read more

I don't know if I've just had bad luck here, but I've yet to have a good coffee from the Roost. I hate to say it, but Starbucks coffee tastes better. I go here once or twice a week and it's always a pleasant visit. The girls that work here are super prompt and friendly. It's also fun seeing the seasonal decor. In the warmer months I get their cold brew and in the cooler months, I get a hot coffee with steamed almond milk. Occasionally I try one of the many flavor options. I enjoy the simplicity of the menu but also how they have a variety of flavors and milk alternatives to choose from. It's a great place to stop when you're on the go or out running errands. You get the speed a drive thru but with the homey comforting setting of a local family place, and they have stamp cards so every now and then a free drink is earned! read more

Every Wednesday we show up for some coffee and it never fails to satisfy. The staff is friendly and efficient and the coffee's good; what more could you ask for? They have a classic stamp card loyalty system where you earn a stamp per drink ordered. I believe it's family owned and operated so that's always a plus. Oh, and they actually have heavy cream so that's great. They close pretty early but that has never been a problem for us. There was only one time where they were out of cold brew. The staff apologized profusely but it was no big deal. I can't expect them to always have a full stock. No one's entitled to that luxury! I don't have much more to say. I visited for the first time yesterday and was not disappointed. I was told the chai latte was the drink to order, but I decided to order an employee favorite instead. I ordered Jacqueline's favorite (which Jacqueline made herself). I can't remember exactly what it was (it had a lot going on), but it was an iced salted Carmel concoction made with coconut milk. I absolutely adore this little coffee place. They have two drive-up windows and a walk-up window with tables set up outside. I've never had a bad experience here and I go here multiple times a week. It's hard not to when it's so close to our house. It does get a little crowded when the high school is on lunch. I really love the coffee here! My only problem is that, today I decided to be bold and ordered a blended bull, I was excited for it, until I tried it. It wasn't my cup of tea, I called the place to see what the policy is on drinks that you order and well, for a reason or two you don't end up liking it, whoever answered the phone told me their policy is to charge the next drink full charge because they're still " using the product" to make you the drink you didn't like. I was mind blown! Because I have visited many places and if you don't like something they're more than happy to replace it with something you like, because they want your business? Because they want returning customers right? I work across the street from this place and I hate to go back to Starbucks where they will HAPPILY make me another drink so that I can keep coming back to buy they're over priced coffee! I love this drive up coffee shop as it is so close to my work. The girls are always very sweet and very quick to get you whatever you need early in the morning. I really enjoyed that they give a teacher discount and they also have stamp cards so every 10 drinks you get something free. I enjoy that they remember my order from time to time even though I tend to switch it up but they always are prompt and very quick. Even if there is a line of two or three cars they get through it very quickly in less than five or 10 minutes. Great service and lots of choices as to what you want. The path that led me to The Roost is simple, yet sheds light on why I'm such an awesome mate! Hmmm...seems a bit self aggrandizing. Ok, I'll scale back on my self congratulatory tone and say that I'm nice enough. I roast my own coffee (check out Sweet Maria's online) and don't want to spend the time and money for someone else to make my coffee on a regular basis. In this instance, I'd neglected to roast some green coffee and thought I'd surprise/wake my better half with a cup of artisanal coffee. I avoided the mainstream choices and chose to seek out a more personal experience. I live in the Old Southwest and have seen the small coffee hut on California Ave often. It turns out that it's The Roost. I rolled up like a gangsta...and by that I mean I drove my sleepy self into the drive through in my small four door sedan. You might predict what happens next in this narrative. I ordered coffee. I chose an iced americano for myself and the usual suspect, a vanilla latte for my honey. A lovely/friendly/attentive young lady helped me. Then another lovely/friendly/attentive young lady joined the fray. It was a mother daughter team! I got excellent, friendly service. Even better...the coffee was delicious and tasted particularly fresh! It had an attention to detail and craftsmanship that chain places can't duplicate. My unsweetened iced americano was rich with that hint of bitterness that I love and my love loved her lovely latte (cue up Led Zeppelin whole lotta love here). The latte wasn't too sweet and cloying, rather it was rich and frothy with coffee as the primary flavor! I was happy to put my $$$ into the hands of hard working locals. I say take a small detour from your regular stop and check out The Roost. You can thank me later! By the way...my cat approves of the delicious coffee. read more

If you like chai lattes, then this is your place! They don't overfill the cup with ice like Starbucks does. Better priced than Starbucks too. Continually have a line in the mornings, so be prepared to wait a few minutes until you're helped. They don't always move at a quick pace, but everyone that works there is pretty friendly. My friend and I went on 9/7/2020 in the early afternoon and were very disappointed. The girls that were working had terrible customer service and made us feel very unwelcome, one girl in particular. I got the special drink which I was supposed to get a dollar off and I didn't, when we asked for the total for one of the drinks they got defensive as if we were questioning how they rung it up. In turn they told us just to divide our whole total by three and that would be the amount for one. The whole experience was very disappointing. read more

I've been sampling local coffee spots in Reno for years (trying to avoid sbux and Dutch at all costs). The roost has fantastic coffee and great service. All drinks are reasonably priced, and more appropriately, have a good amount of shots depending on the size of the drink. Great place Update: poor experience with two of the staff members there lead to a lower review. One girl just seems so unhappy and unwilling to accommodate. She made my drink wrong and denied it then gave attitude when I urged her to remake. Not worth the bother going back. read more
