I recently attended a wedding reception here on a Saturday evening. There was a second reception taking place on the other side, but you'd never know it, because the areas are so well self-defined. This reception started and ended exactly on time. Some scheduling was tweaked, because the bride and groom were exhausted, but the staff handled it effortlessly. The couple had themed cocktails available at the bar, which made bar service extremely quick and smooth. the food was delicious, and table service was very professional. My only complaint for the evening was that the acoustics were TOO good, which way-too-easily amplified the DJ's music (the dance floor could have been slightly bigger too). But if these were the only things about which I wasn't completely satisfied with the venue and the event, that is, to me, proof that the experience was quite enjoyable. read more

My wife and I were married here in October and it was incredible! Going back to when we first toured the venue, we worked with Maureen and were so impressed by the venue, the packages, and the services offered. My wife and I had toured two other venues and choosing Riverview was the easiest decision we made in our wedding planning. Our coordinator for our wedding was Chelsea, and she was excellent! She communicated regularly and clearly, and provided great answers and advice when we had questions. Come wedding day, Chelsea's team, including Chelsea, our assistant coordinator Felicia, and both bridal attendants Cam and Tara, worked together seamlessly to ensure our day was perfect. Chelsea ran two quick rehearsals for the ceremony and that's all it took! She gave clear instructions and recommendations and when it was time for the real thing, it was perfect! The whole team made sure we stuck to our schedule, rounded up all the guests we needed for photos, made sure we had some time to ourselves to take in the gravity of the day, and also made sure we ate! The team maintained the perfect distance; close enough to rapidly get involved should they need to, but without making us feel crowded. Another service offered was the option to load our vehicle at the end of the night with our decorations and I cannot stress enough how great this was. We were able to stay out on the dance floor ALL the way until the end of the reception while the staff loaded the car for us to pick up the following morning. This way, we got to spend as much time with all our guests without worrying about coordinating a clean up crew, and figuring out who is going home with what. Our guests continue to tell us how much they loved the food and how beautiful and clean the venue was (we thoroughly agree). 4:00pm Sunday Wedding in November The staff seemed very helpful and friendly. Rows of chairs were set up for the ceremony. There were also glasses of champagne for guests to enjoy before the ceremony. Afterwards, we we're ushered to cocktail hour on the other side of the curtain. They set up the tables for dinner while cocktail hour was going on. I was impressed with the food overall. Some things were better than others. I especially enjoyed the calamari. There were so many different appetizers that few of us were hungry for dinner. The salad was an arugula salad with generous portions of mozzarella. The cake was moist and flavorful, especially for a red velvet cake which I feel can easily go wrong. As a frosting lover, I was dissapointed with the frosting. We were recently at this venue for my friend's Bar Mitzvah. The staff were very friendly and helpful from the moment of entry, to passing of hors d'oeuvres, crudités set up, bar and presentation of the meal. This date I had the salmon served over a corn and risotto mix. It was amazing- I wish I knew others at our table because I would have asked to eat any leftovers. We attended a wedding on September 30, 2023 as guests. We were impressed with the location. The grounds are beautiful and the inside of the facility was stately and well organized. The cocktail hour was fantastic with a wonderful assortment of appetizers. The attention of two waitors, Sheyenne and Nani , was wonderful in particular. Both took a moment to make sure that we were aware of the different appetizers that was circulating. No complaints about anything here, a truly fantastic place to throw a wedding reception and ceremony for that matter. Great wedding venue. The food was really good. There wasn't a single thing that I ate that wasn't yummy as heck. The wedding reception was for 300+ people. We had cocktail hour on one side of the partition and then were escorted around to the other side where the 30+ tables awaited us with antipasto dishes. My fiancé and I had looked at this venue two years ago for our wedding, and then the next year we need up attending a friend's wedding here. It was OK. We didn't go with it because we really didn't like the set up. The overall set up of the room (which obviously can't be changed without complete reconstruction of the building) was strange to me; I personally just didn't like that the dance floor was long and not wide-or the fact that the only thing separating one wedding from another was a moving wall that wasn't sound proof. When we attended our friend's wedding, our overall experience was pretty good. The facility was clean and the outdoor portion of the ceremony was so sweet! The cocktail hour was fun and the food was really good. The only complaint I really had was that whilst eating dinner, the staff took the food away before you were even done with your plate- even when you were still in your seat... read more

After hearing so much about this place, I had high expectations (just like their prices). The appetizers was the best part of the evening from our families perspective. They had a nice variety and everything was tasty. Every package includes (no option to exclude) an open bar. The bartenders were professional and the drinks were...we'll booze, so that makes lots of people happy. The main course was without a doubt one of the worsts, I've ever had at a wedding. it started with salad that was overpowered by a fish flavor. The bread was dry with no butter on the table. Next came some penne and some sauce that we all guessed was cream of broccoli soup poured over it. The Fliet Mignon (no way it was a tenderloin) was the toughest cut of meat I can recall having in years. The carrots (2 little itty bitty ones) were raw. The mashed potatoes were ok. Much to the managers credit she asked our table if everything was ok and offered to swap out meals. The wedding cake was beautiful, but taste-wise so-so at best in taste. Someone at our table had dietary needs that was provided to Riverview in advance and the staff was unaware and when something came out it did not meat the requirements. The venue was well attractive and clean. The staff was friendly and attentive. I believe there are much nicer options for 1/2 the price if I was planning a wedding. So, while I would like to give it a lower rating the staff saved the day. read more

The staff were all over everything, from handing me a whiskey sour the moment I walked in, to hitting everyone up to take one of the many delicious appetizers (smoked duck, chicken satay, risotto balls and more). I didn't even wander over to the appetizer buffet because they were so good at finding me and my hungry belly while I socialized with friends. (though there were raw oysters in that buffet that I should've tried) The dinner was excellent too. It started with a nice bowl of penne alla vodka and then a fresh and crisp cesar salad and ended with my dinner option, salmon with roasted carrots, asparagus over polenta. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. They timed everything very nicely too so there wasn't long waits for your table to be served (all at once by 12 waiters). Special shout out to the bartenders. They were working hard. I only went to one because she was super fast and practically had my drink in her hand before I stepped up after the previous patron. This was by far the best wedding reception I've attended and the staff (and the parents of the bride and groom of course) made it that way. Who's getting married here next and can I get an invite? Attended a wedding there last Saturday night. Firstly, it IS elegant. Very nice. The appetizers were pretty good. Plus two large containers of white and red sangria. The cocktail hour was in one part of the large ballroom, partitioned from the dining area. The filet mignon was just acceptable...not as tender as it can be. Wait staff was good. My complaint is : the dining room is enormous, but the restrooms are not in the room, but rather a long walk away down a hall. Now that might prove easy for the young people, but terrible for we 60+ folks. It was an arduous walk. After taking the hike my feet and back were on fire. Attended a wedding here and was not disappointed. The large room was sectioned for the ceremony, then re-sectioned for cocktail hour (more on that amazingness later) while they set up the dining tables for the reception. As was said in the other reviews, the place looks like a typical mid-upscale "wedding factory" facility, but it provides a great backdrop. As to the alcohol issue previously mentioned, the drinks I received were not watered down, and shots were provided if asked for. I don't know if this is a change in the policy, but I feel that if you're at a wedding and you feel the need to complain about free alcohol, I'm not sure you're there for the right reasons. In any case, there was no problem there. Now, I have to extol the virtues of this cocktail hour. I'm aware there are likely different package levels so to speak of what your cocktail hour and dinner choices consist of, like most banquet halls, but holy mother. The finger food alone could have been enough. Fruit, cheeses (mm, brie with cranberry,) chips and artichoke dip or chili, pasta, veggies galore, giant spouted pitchers full of white or red sangria (ohmygosh) AND passed h'orderves. And here's where that extra bit of amazing comes in. Jokingly, my friends and I asked for just a plate of bacon after having the small quiche cups that were passed by one of the servers. Hilarity soon ensued, because sure enough, she had the chef just cook us up a plate of bacon and brought it out to us. Hysterical, personal, and really made a connection. Obviously this is where I want to get married. Because bacon. Dinner was great too. Salads were gigantic and fresh, and our table consisted of at least one of every offering, all of which were well put together. All in all, no complaints about this venue. My friend's wedding was just held here recently and it was BEAUTIFUL! We were greeted as soon as we arrived, and they kept the food and drinks coming all night, from the second we arrived. The bridal suite was very nice - spacious, with a nice set-up of appetizers and champagne too. The bar was nice, the ballroom was beautiful, the views out the huge windows were spectacular....it was just a really pretty wedding and seems like the type of place that would look beautiful during any season. read more

I have been here several times for various events, and I have enjoyed all of them. My sister's wedding was held here last May, and in an unfortunate change of weather just a few hours before the wedding, she decided to move the ceremony inside. The staff at The Riverview were very accommodating and helpful in easing her woes with the last minute change of plans. Throughout the evening the staff was incredible. There were always people around when you needed them (and my drink was never empty!). I was also impressed with the food. I feel as though a lot of wedding venues have unmemorable dishes, but to this day I stand by my words- The Riverview had best vegetarian option I've had at a wedding! I've also been here for the Taste of Simsbury several years in a row, and have had a great time. I have never written a review before, but I feel compelled to write one about The Riverview. We had our daughter's wedding there a couple of weeks ago and we were very happy with The Riverview. We had many compliments about the food, both during the cocktail hour and the dinner. My husband and I had the filet mignon, which I have read from other reviews, had gotten some disparaging comments. We were very pleased with our entrees as were many of our guests...we asked them. I have to mention Stephanie, our wedding coordinator. She was wonderful! We had many, many discussions and emails leading up to the wedding day. She answered my questions and my daughters in a professional and timely fashion. On the wedding day, she was there from start to finish guiding us through everything. Our daughter's wedding was beautiful and elegant. We are very happy we went to the Riverview. I am sorry that some other people had different experiences. I typically refrain from writing bad reviews but in this case I felt it completely necessary. Overall the Riverview is a beautiful place inside and out. It's decorated very nicely and the patio in back faces the farmington river, which is nice. The watered down booze and food quality however are completely unforgivable. If you spend thousands of dollars on a wedding and a few thousand on open bar, the booze should not be tampered with. They don't offer shots because they don't want people to realize that they water down their alcohol, which is illegal. I'm no food connoisseur and it takes very little for me to enjoy a meal, especially at a banquet facility where my expectations are lower than of a restaurant. Everyone at my table shared their plates so I had the chance to taste each meal they offer. The stuffed "shrimp" was embarrasing. They were miniature cocktail frozen shrimp, which wouldn't fill up a child and the sauce they put on top of the filet was disgusting. The vegetarian meal was OK, but that is definitely not my first meal choice. I understand the quality of meat isn't typically great at banquet facilities but it was by far the worst I've had. I've heard from multiple people before attending a wedding here that the food was terrible and I experienced it for myself this past weekend. The food also came out at 9:30, almost an hour before the (terrible) salads were placed on the table so people were sitting and waiting around hungry to eat. This left us with only about an hour and a half to dance. Oh and the dance floor is TINY. I wouldn't try to throw a party here with more than 150 guests if they like to dance. If you are planning a wedding in the Hartford area and want your guests to enjoy their meals and drinks I would highly recommend the Farmington Club or Aquaturf. They've never dissapointed me or anyone I know that has attended an event there in the past. read more

Yow-za-- I was expecting a 5 star experience knowing the exceptional tastes (& budget) of the bride & groom for this recent July wedding with 300+people. Unfortunately, this venue did not meet my expectations. Firstly, let me say I did not try any of the bountiful & expertly passed appetizers, nor any of the of the hot/cold & elaborate hors d'oeurves that other guests deemed delicious. I was (unfortunately) "saving" my appetite for dinner. Open bar was provided but serious wine drinkers could only find servings of Stone Cellars Merlot or Cab for reds & their Chardonnay & Sav Blanc (or something pretending to be) for selections. No top shelf for the oenophiles, sorry . Bar tenders were amazing though & other "top shelf" liquors were visible and available for consumption. The first course of the meal was a tepid ziti with some sort of meat sauce that was laced with an abundance of oregano (my most hated herb) so I did not eat that. When I reached for a dinner roll for a carb substitute, there were none as were only 8 provided for our table of 12. I asked our hostess if she could bring more and although she answered "of course, right away" they never appeared! The next course was the entrée and our entire table of 12 has the filet of beef served over mashed potato and some asparagus. The mashed potatoes were an overly salted BOXED variety & entirely inedible. The filet, although cooked to an accurate med-rare tasted "off" as in "old" or frozen & re-frozen. It was left uneaten after one bite. Others at the table agreed. Wedding cake came next & was just so-so and no coffee was provided despite the table being decorated with coffee cups & spoons. To the bride's credit, everything SHE opted for outside of the Riverview's ubiquitous services were excellent. The expresso bar with biscotti, chocolates & liquors, the cigar rolling and (thank GOD) the breakfast sandwiches at least provided some sustenance for the very hungry me. My only other critique was that the excellent band was WAY TOO LOUD!! Had to revert to the outside patio (in the rain) with the cigar smokers to escape the overly loud decibels and therefore missed those vital wedding moments like the bride/father dance & cutting of the cake. read more

I just got married here this past Friday, July 21, 2017. I have zero complaints about the experience! The Riverview does an excellent job taking care of guests. They provide personal attendants for the bride and groom (shout to Callie not sure on spelling.. who kept us hydrated throughout pictures. Jodie was also great to work with especially through out many table changes. The food was beyond my expectations and all of my guests were impressed with the food. We both had the filet which was like cutting through butter it was so tender. We sprung for the Viennese table which was a detail we got a lot of my compliments about. Everything was presented beautifully and executed flawlessly. The only reason it is 4 and not 5 is because there is no tasting of entrees prior to the wedding, (you do get a cake tasting but the showcase only allows for appetizers and stations to be tasted) however as you can see nothing to worry about as the food was outstanding. read more

This place has no respect with the vendors, if you are a DJ, Photographer, Videographer etc and is going to work in this place bring your own food, I was filming since 10am with no breaks, at the dinner I was starving and nobody cares. After a year and a half of very budgeted and meticulous planning, the day finally came. I would absolutely stand by the riverview and their phenomenal service. I would personally recommend requesting Alyson Moreno for all of your planning as I could not have hand picked anyone better of I tried. They provided the venue for the ceremony and reception and everything was absolutely flawless. Alyson went way above and beyond to ensure that every last detail was well planned and organized, she responded to all of my emails no matter how many there were right away, she helped ensure that no detail was overlooked, and added her own touch to any details that could have been forgotten. She always made sure I had a beverage in hand and was actually fed throughout the entire reception, and even went as far as bringing me lotion for my sunburn (ow) while the photographers were doing family photos. She always was 1 step ahead of me and made everything as stress free as humanly possible. The food and bar service was so great I have been hearing about it non stop since the wedding, and the venue was so gorgeous that I have people telling me it was the most beautiful wedding they had ever seen. For everything that the venue includes (cake, linen, open bar, wine bottles, 6 appetizers, salad, huge meals, ceremony, etc) it was the best price hands down that I found and was worth everything. I had 130 guests and found that I paid a great price for the number of guests. The venue itself is gorgeous. I have to admit I was a little nervous b/c they switched my DOC a couple months before the wedding but Alyson did an AWESOME job. We chose the Riverview for our daughter's September 6th wedding and couldn't be happier. From our very first visit to see their facility, the Riverview staff could not have been more polite, professional and friendly. Stephanie, the event planner assigned to our daughter's wedding, was very helpful and accommodating. Since we live nearly 2 hours away from Simsbury, email and phone calls were our primary way to contact Stephanie and she took care of all our questions. When the day of the wedding came, a thunderstorm with predicted lightning threatened our outdoor ceremony. The Riverview was terrific in making an alternate plan to have the ceremony inside and then when the weather cleared in the knick of time to have the ceremony, they moved it back outside. Great extra effort to have the outdoor ceremony our daughter and her fiance wanted. Our guests gave us rave reviews about the beautiful venue inside and out, the delicious food, and the courteous staff. Even our dry cleaner commented that the floors must have been spotless because unlike most bridal gowns and bridesmaids dresses ours were not dirty on the bottom! At the end of the evening, Stephanie and her team had packed up all the gifts, extra favors, flowers, pew ribbons, cake top etc for us. They even packed our things in the car for us.
