French Toast

Sweet breakfast/lunch spot tucked away in a local neighborhood. Ambiance of the converted church adds to the allure. You order at the counter and the food came out fast and hot. I liked my vege eggs Benedict with spinach/green onion on thick toast they said came from La Petite Provence downtown. Hubby had big order of french toast. I'd like to come back when we could sit outside in a charming looking courtyard.

Really cool coffee shop in the Dalles. It's an old church converted to coffee shop and cafe. Got the breakfast sandwich and coffee. They have a special in the morning where the combo is super cheap. Really neat seating area inside. Service was great.

I know avocado toast is a common option, but holy smokes this was hands down the best avo toast I've ever had. The crust of the bread was soft enough for a fork, and the cucumber on it was sooooo tasty! I got a vanilla latte which was a perfect pair. We sat outside in the patio, and it's such a cool space. We had a table with shade and sunshine, I'll definitely be back if I'm in town again. Service was attentive, kind and checked in regularly!

This place was fun to be work from. They open really early and they have food after 8am. I had a latte made to order and the coffee was very smooth and perfectly brewed. I had a fried chicken and it was very tasty and filling. If you are starving this is the place to go for lunch. The gent working behind the counter was very friendly and had a great personality to work with their guests. He was very friendly, counter and very efficient even when they had a wait. The best part of the experience is the building. It is very spacious, welcoming and warm. This place for sure it is a great spot.

The restaurant had a varied, mouthwatering menu and the service was excellent. The rooms had an old world feel to them, but were mostly refurbished and updated. What we loved most was the varied gallery of paintings on walls on each floor and the old-fashioned lever driven elevator that was run by the staff. The views and the grounds were exquisite with a waterfall cascading by a lookout. An unusual and historic landmark hotel that's definitely worth a visit.

On the one hand, the grounds are lovely, with some nice views of a waterfall cascading down to the Columbia River. The hotel has nice "bones" and the interior incorporates a lot of Art Deco touches, although we didn't agree with every design choice. There's a cool, old-fashioned hand-operated elevator that needs a staff member to operate. My biggest issue had to do with the cost of the room in late October given that the view of the river was very limited by small-ish windows and trees. Overall, just not worth the $325/night rate. The hotel appears to be a prime destination for weddings, which could be fantastic if the weather cooperates. It is located just west of small Hood River, which appears to lack much in the way of fine dining, but does have a number of boutiques, a great brewpub (Pfriem), and a great coffee/breakfast place (Kickstand). For us, given all of the other waterfalls along the Gorge, I think we would have been just fine with a less expensive, less notable hotel for the night.

Definitely got the small town diner feel here, and everything on the menu sounded so good! They also have a specials board inside so make sure to take a look before you make your decision. I finally decided on the south of the border omelette, which also comes with hash browns or potatoes or fruit, and a biscuit or muffin or toast. Such a satisfying and filling meal! The omelette itself was not short on ingredients at all, and I loved the cilantro. The menu did mention homemade salsa but I didn't see any of that on the side or inside. Other than that, the eggs were cooked nicely. I picked the chorizo biscuit on the side and it was so soft and fluffy inside! I also appreciated the amount of options on the kids menu. There was plenty more options than just your standard pancake, bacon, and eggs. Our kids loved the pigs in a blanket which was actually quite big and perfect for our two kids to split. Service was awesome, our server was so kind and even brought out our friend's son's maple bar with a candle because he mentioned it was his birthday. She did it without us even asking which was so sweet! The food came out so quickly too despite the entire restaurant being full. Great experience here at Bette's!

This is the definition of a little country hole in the wall. Tons of locals there, relative small, but with friendly service and really good food! Like seriously, good burgers! The five of us split a total of four burgers, including a mushroom, Swiss, a bacon burger, and the James burger, which was a bacon cheeseburger with an egg on top. The James is one of the better burgers I've ever tasted! We also noted how delicious the tater tots were! I'm not generally one to gush over the accoutrements, but these were magnificent. The fries are also quite good. We were told that they will be under new management soon, but it is apparently staying in the family. This is an absolute must hit if you're in the area!

They seemed to have a light but steady amount of patrons that morning. Plenty of parking, and a good location right on the 14 in Lyle. My husband went inside to place our order. We ordered two fairly basic breakfast platters: eggs, hash browns, and pancakes for me...eggs, bacon, browns, and toast for him. The food was prepped decently fast, and the service was cordial. The portions were fair. The pancakes were huge, but pretty heavy so I could only get through about 1/3. The food was cooked to order and good...an average breakfast I would say...maybe nothing to do cartwheels about, but certainly satisfying.

We all got different sandwiches and every single one of us loved what we got. Wasn't too busy on a Friday morning, plenty of open seating. They did have pastries as well but did not partake. Ordered the bagel and lox which was amazing- came with all the fixings such as tomatoes, capers & red onions. The salmon was fresh and the bagel was nice and toasty, just the way I prefer. Got to taste the sandwich with the jam and loved it. Kind of wish I got that sandwich instead just cause of the jam. The bread was really good too- I think they were homemade english muffins. Everything on the sandwich was just chef's kiss! All of the employees were really nice. The place was clean as you have to "buss" your own table. Glad that people can follow directions. You order at the counter and they bring it out to you. The dining space is bright with tons of seating. I love that they make their own bread!! It's super soft and such a nice touch. I usually go with the turkey which has turkey, white cheddar, tomato, pickles, onion, lettuce, and hot mustard. It was a bit spicier than I would have liked, not that it was too hot, but that flavor was really dominant for me so I'd probably modify it a bit in the future or just build my own . My daughter loved her ham sandwich which comes with sprouts, avocado, and cucumber. My husband also really liked his Italian and their clam chowder. This place is definitely worth a stop if you are hungry in the Gorge!

Service was prompt, and the restaurant atmosphere is very pleasant. It's kind of funny because you'll have people in suits having a business meeting over dinner, and other regular hotel guests just dining casually in t-shirts and jeans. On both occasions, I was dining with another family member. When we were there for dinner, we were having a really hard time deciding what to order, and our server let us know that there was a 2-for deal going on for some of the pastas. Each of us had been considering a pasta, so that solved that problem! Both were delicious, and we had leftovers to take home. When we were there for breakfast, I was feeling adventurous and ordered the lox and bagel, which I've only had a very basic version of one other time. It was soooo good, and very filling. Several other options on the breakfast menu also sounded really good, but I'm glad I went with this for the experience. I'd definitely eat here again if/when I stay in the hotel again. Since there's no free breakfast offered by the hotel, they give you vouchers for the restaurant, so you can get a pretty good deal on a meal.
