The food is always consistent. Total comfort food! Biggest thing they need to work on, which has happened to us the last three times we were there, is waiting for a table. You give them your name and you sit around, even when the parking lot is practically empty. This place makes as many things homemade as they can and it shows. My salad dressing was homemade, my Turkey dinner was delicious. The server told me just to ask for any extra gravy or anything I needed. My son and husband got burgers and my husband said it had been ages since he had a good burger. We were offered free fry refills but we didn't take any because we were so full. Honestly we rented our room for another night just to hang out, rest and have some more delicious, homemade food. Have been to Cousins many times over the years and have tried quite a few dishes. It's a great stop when passing through the gorge in either direction. It's an old fashioned sit down place with country fare and homestyle decore. You are greeted arlt the door by the sounds of farm animals...very cute and makes us laugh every time. Staff is warm and welcoming and we usually never have to wait to be seated. The convenience of Cousins can't be overstated. Hungry travelers will be well dlfed and leave with full bellies. Burgers are good, biscuits and gravy pretty standard, and their omelets are decent. The cinnamon rolls are the real star of the show and need to be shared. They are massive! I ordered the country fried steak with a pancake, eggs over hard, and country potatoes. The pancake and eggs were ok. However the country fried steak was very disappointing. The breading was a bit overdone and didn't have a desirable flavor - it didn't stick to the steak so I wiped it off. The country gravy had a very flowery flavor so obviously they didn't make the sauce properly. It was inedible. The potatoes to were very starchy flavor. Friday night was a bit busy. So rather than wait for a table in the dining room, I opted for the self-seating at a small table in the "Saloon". I ordered the Stampede Burger with fries & tartar sauce. The burger would've been better cooked closer to medium with a little pink in the middle. Mine was fully "dead", and just wanting to veer into the tough side of cooked. But, it was still pretty darn tasty. Seemed like a solid 1/3 pound patty, with a good slice of cheese and enough mayo and barbecue sauce to necessitate extra napkins. Fries were perfect, and the tartar sauce had a nice hint of pickle to it. A tad expensive at $18, but I did quite like it. Staff all were super friendly, as has always been my experience there when I'm traveling through. Your mileage may vary, but I've never had a bad meal there yet. read more

I cannot say enough great things about this place! The first thing I noticed was how charming the decor was, and I loved the little train that chugged on a track by the ceiling. Our service was phenomenal (I think the waiter's name was Ky?) because he checked on us consistently and made friendly conversation. He told us that the hostess gave us the "best seat in the house" which was a booth next to the crackling fire. I have to agree! Our food was delicious and fillling; we didn't have room for dessert, so I got a cinnamon roll to-go. We also got something from the cute little gift shop. The only negative thing was the screaming sound effect that plays when you come in & out of the front door. I am thankful that didn't give me an episode. I saw other complaints about it, so maybe consider another sound or switching to jingle bells? Overall, I am super pleased with my experience here. First, the wait was longer than it should have been (for everyone), so I sat and watched the flies on the table next to me. I ordered the French dip with the canned clam chowder, and my husband ordered the Rueben sandwich with a salad. His sandwich was so dry my husband got it stuck in his throat and choked. I ENJOYED my stay at this restaurant. I've been to a few hotels in the Mt Hood area and the food here is excellent. Imagine staying at Cracker Barrel hotel (I know that sounds strange) The seating area of the restaurant is very well decorated- it feels very very local and the ambiance is just right. There's an assortment of farm vehicles in and outside the restaurant and cafe. I had the pot roast for dinner and then strawberry waffle for breakfast - also good service and I thought the price was good as well. I stayed at the hotel overnight and I've been to a few places around Mt Hood area that whilst they were aurguable better - this place was also very good. The rooms were spacious and well furnished - also a very decent price as well. There are also TESLA super chargers located on premises as well. read more

Found this spot while driving around the Gorge. Both the interior and exterior have a very hometown, down to earth vibe that I appreciate in diners. All the staff were very friendly and although we had to wait a little bit they manage to clean us a table in no time. Their menu is pretty standard of any diner with a variety of breakfast items, sandwiches and burgers. We ordered their onion rings to start which were good. They were certainly crispy and the onions felt fresh as they had a nice crunch and didn't fall out once you bit into one. My cousins and i have been coming here for many years for our summer lunch, we have always had a great time , with plenty of space to sit and visit and have a nice meal, however the past few times have not been that, this week we asked for corner back table and had to explain why we needed a larger table , personal reasons, our cousins are larger women and need more space , after a wincing hostess we were finally seated , we ordered our drinks and were served in timely manner, my margarita was clear and had absolutely no taste of alcohol, i let that slide due to not wanting to make a scene, our food came , cold gravy on stuffing and turkey, however, the worst was the giant long black hair underneath the vegetables Served on my plate, i pulled the hair out and disposed of it on the floor after showing my party , very disgusting, when the waitress returned i told her , she wanted to reserve me and remake my plate , we were all served together so knowing this i said no , my stomach was really not feeling the food after seeing the hair, i told her she should have the cook wear a hair net and her reply was , he's bald , so looking at a messy pile of dark hair piled on her head i related that it must have been hers, my sister ordered a burger without onions , came with onions, with no reply from the waitress, my sister pulled the onions off, my cousin both ordered moscow mules that were equally non alcohol in taste. The waitress took $4.00 off my order for the hair , which was basically an insult to me . Maybe a health department needs to do a visit . This is a real cool old school type restaurant in The Dalles. it is adjacent to a very old outdated hotel (than God it was just me and not w my wife), which seemed family oriented nonetheless The outside of the restaurant is decked w a farm country theme, w an old fashion riding pony were you put quarters in for a ride. It had huge Rooster, cow, and pig fixtures like one would see on Route 66 (Cali) or in a Hollywood movie. Even has an old (early 1930s) vintaged tractor in the front of building! The bar area w TV, bar stools, and good amount of tables to drink, eat, chill. The bar tender ladies were very efficient and attentive. Made me feel welcomed as a solo patron. I ordered a Club sandwich w Fries to go, it was good as one would expect in a relic landmark restaurant like this. My only regret is that I didn't have the breakfast, because from what I saw on the Menu and on the prior Yelp pictures, I definitely will be back to this place-- just for the experience of old Americana. read more
