This is a real cool old school type restaurant in The Dalles. it is adjacent to a very old outdated hotel (than God it was just me and not w my wife), which seemed family oriented nonetheless The outside of the restaurant is decked w a farm country theme, w an old fashion riding pony were you put quarters in for a ride. It had huge Rooster, cow, and pig fixtures like one would see on Route 66 (Cali) or in a Hollywood movie. Even has an old (early 1930s) vintaged tractor in the front of building! The bar area w TV, bar stools, and good amount of tables to drink, eat, chill. The bar tender ladies were very efficient and attentive. Made me feel welcomed as a solo patron. I ordered a Club sandwich w Fries to go, it was good as one would expect in a relic landmark restaurant like this. My only regret is that I didn't have the breakfast, because from what I saw on the Menu and on the prior Yelp pictures, I definitely will be back to this place-- just for the experience of old Americana. read more

My husband and I both decided that breakfast/lunch at Cousins sounded good yesterday - bad idea. I immediately sent back my eggs and breakfast potatoes as both were cold. Just a few minutes in the microwave helped. Then the first bites of the Chicken Fried Steak was such a disappointment. This was not a normal $20 breakfast! It seemed more like a fast food chicken patty with gravy. Definitely not the quality of food I remembered! Next time (if there is one) we will try a burger. Yes we should have talked to the manager! We have lived in the dalles for a couple of years and our first time trying out Cousins for breakfast and it did not disappoint! The staff was extremely friendly and efficient. The cinnamon roll is so good! It's pretty big so you'll have some for later. The biscuits are amazing - so soft and buttery! Charming place and lovely service. Clean restroom. First pic is the Columbia Gorge Omelet, which started out super, until I found a hair in it. Wow I wish there was an old fashioned diner as good as this one somewhere near where I live. I've been here multiple times and I've never been disappointed. This time I ordered a Chicken Pot Pie. Deeeelicious! In fact, quite possibly, the best pot pie I've ever eaten. The Gnocchi soup that came with it was ridiculously delicious too. Soup had nice flavor, just a bit too thick on the cheese. If you are a lover of that much cheese, this could be a plus for you. Husband had chicken tenders and he said they were really good. The bleu cheese is really good. We sat in the bar and it was a manager that served us. I ordered the soup and he seemed surprised I didn't order more. Because he said Is that all?? We stopped in for breakfast while the Tesla was charging just around the corner. We decided on the buffet to save time. To compare to buffet food standards, the food was very good. They had great variety and it all was hot and well maintained. The bacon was crispy but not burnt. I especially enjoyed the delicious cinnamon roll. What made the experience exceptional was the server. He was extraordinarily friendly and nice. He makes you feel like he's your long time friend you haven't seen in a while. Have eaten there several times and have no serious issues. The place is clean, the staff friendly, the food - most always decent. Their menu shrunk and being pescatarian, already difficult to find edible meals so decreasing their menu makes ordering a tad more difficult but my partner (carnivore) never has a problem. His fav are the wings and goes there specifically for them - me, always the salmon. Being open 7 days a week is definitely a plus (The Dalles is an 80 mile round trip for us) - the closest for medical, shopping, and dining when there. First time visiting this restaurant while we had some business at the Dalles. We got to the restaurant around 6:15 pm on a Monday. We got seated in couple minutes. Although the restaurant was pretty busy but not full, we were seated next to a table of six. We asked to seat at a booth and we were directed to three empty booths. I think the server should have asked us for our reference. I order the Reuben sandwich and my husband had the regular pot roast. The pot roast was tender but the mashed potato and vegetable didn't add much to the dish. My Reuben sandwich was very tasty. It came with melted cheese and the meat was full of flavor. It came with a very crunchy dill pickle. The fries were not too exciting. Our waitress (or should I say cousin) Lauren, was so sweet and friendly. She was probably the most polite waitress I have ever had. I should have counted the numbers of thank you she said to us. She even offered us a loaf of wonderfully fresh and fluffy bread. This was an interesting restaurant. The decor reminded me of Cracker Barrel. The food was pretty good. We had breakfast. Eggs, bacon, and toast. I give it a 3 stars. First time here. The gals at the front counter are very sweet. Our waitstaff "Joel" was very cute and very attentive. Wanted to make sure that all of our needs were met. My steak was tender and very flavorful the mashed potatoes Also we're very flavorful with butter however the green beans tasted like they were frozen very bland. I am just going to get the negative out of the way, those things being the difficulty getting here from the freeway and layout being a little cramped for my taste. Not a fan of being that close to strangers when I am eating. Food is really good. Old fashioned bad for you comfort food goodness. And lots of it. Prices are pretty reasonable as you get TOO MUCH FOOD. Service is very friendly. I always get nostalgic for when I was riding along with my dad in his semi-truck when a waitress calls me "Hon". Very clean. Service is also pretty quick. If you don't mind a detour in your travels, this is awesome road food. read more

Old reliable I have probably Eaten here at least a dozen times over the last 7 years and they have consistently served good food. The breakfast menu isn't that big but it does cover the basics. I like the fact that they give you a mini cinnamon roll while you are waiting for your food and they know how to roll. Just passing through town. We have been through before and remembered how good they were. Hubby's steak cooked perfectly. The breakfast ham was amazing. Poached eggs cooked perfectly. Scrambled eggs were rubbery on the outside and folded over to some undercooked ( a little surprised by this). Service was perfect by Stephanie. Very friendly and checked in is just enough. This is an old fashioned 1940's conwoman type restaurant, very quirky, but delicious. I stopped in and had a post roast that was quite good and reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly. Stopped here on our way home from the Oregon Coast. I ordered the eggs and bacon that came with a biscuit. It was fine, nothing special. Everything was cooked right but nothing stood out as being worth that extra one or two stars for me. The service and was quick and friendly.
