Coming down from Mount Hood toward Portland, we spotted Mount Hood Roasters in Rhododendron out of the corner of our eyes, made a quick U-turn, and walked into exactly the kind of coffee experience we hope for in Oregon. I ordered a drip medium roast, grabbed some of their own beans to take home, and added a chocolate chip cookie and a sugar cookie to the order. We stayed at Tollgate campground which is just a short walk away. We enjoyed getting morning coffee here, as well as fresh pastries from a local bakery. They are fully stocked with oatmeal and other snacks! We ended up loving the coffee so much we got two bags! read more

So you are in Mt Hood and are looking for a Starbucks. Turn around and go home, you're in the wrong place Mt Hood Coffee Roasters is the real deal. We walked in and were greeted by a barista pouring a huge amount of fresh beans into a big roaster the size of 1960s Volkswagen beetle. The smell was amazing and you literally get to see them make and roast the coffee from start to finish in front of you. It's a very small local place that looks like it's been here as long as the trees have. I love it. My fiancee ordered a real coffee and I got a childs hot chocolate. The real coffee was a mocha and was so good I can't remember what my hot chocolate was like. They have a gift shop attached with various stuff, I honestly didn't look. Its the best place to go get a real cup of coffee on the mountain, it at least this side of it. read more

Oh my oh my my! I am so happy to have discovered this place while in Mt. Hood. Not only do they make a delicious coffee, they have tamales that are some of the best I've ever had. They have a variety of pastries and breakfast sandwiches here, and they are delicious. We stopped here 3 mornings in a row and to this day we still talk about those tamales. I have driven by this place many times on the way up to the slopes, thinking I ought to try it on the way back down. Im always too tired or too in a hurry to get back and pass right by, yet I still manage to stop off at the larger outfits in Sandy or Gresham. I read the reviews here and so today I slowed down on Hwy 26 as I approached Zig Zag. There were a few people in line ahead of me and I overheard the barista say it was the busiest its been all day! First impression was that there was not a lot of extra distraction in the store, so I was hoping that meant this place just focuses on doing one thing right. I ordered an Americano, the barista hand pulled each shot like in the old days! I sat outside and like someone else mentioned and just watched the traffic go by and smelled the pine trees. The Americano was perfect, the espresso not too bitter or burned like I'm used to. I'm no expert in espresso, I just know that it was very good and I will make this my regular stop from now on. Historically, I have driven past this place countless times without stopping. Recently, it worked out that we were staying one night at an AirBnB loft and didn't want to pack in fresh cream/half & half for coffee on the 2nd day. So, we opted to stop at a coffee place for a treat on the way to the mountain! This place was highly recommended by our AirBnB hosts, and I'm glad we trusted their opinions. The coffee was delicious! I got a white chocolate mocha and I was very pleased, and my husband got an Irish Nut Latte and he loved it as well! ANd, the service was beyond friendly! We got a pastry,that was a "Lavender Honey Scone" that was outsourced from Dragonfly Bakery down the road, and it was delicious as well! The barista advised us that they kept their pastries refrigerated, but they do have a microwave in the gift shop that she recommended we used, and it was very tasty! Even though, this involves two left turns if you are going towards Wy'East from pdx, it is worth the struggle!! So good! read more

We came up here to spend the night in Mt. Hood Roasters Cabin! The staff was so nice and welcoming! I got our key, ordered a coffee and off to the cabin we went! The coffee was great, smooth, hot and delicious! The cabin is a small studio style cabin with everything you need! Although they had the heaters on for us, it was still freezing. We ran down to the store and got 2 bundles of firewood. That lasted us and definitely was the way to go. If you are depending on the heaters to keep you warm, you will be frozen! This is the perfect place to stay if you are skiing up at the mountain! It's nothing fancy, but it has charm and will be a nice place to crash! Plus they have a private hot tub to relax in at night! They left us a bag of coffee for the coffee pot and I will say that was the BEST coffee I've had in years!!! So good, rich, and smooth! Overall a great place! read more

Before our vacation in the Hood River area last month, I ran across this great little spot online while looking for things to do there. We were able to stop here on our way to the Timberline Lodge and We were really happy we did. The place is small and if you're not really looking for it, you may pass it up. Do yourself a favor, don't pass it up! The coffee is wonderful and prepared perfectly. My Cappuccino was excellent. They roast their own beans weekly here, and I loved the flavor. I ordered a 12oz latte with coconut milk, my husband 16 Oz drip. We were both pleasantly surprised how great our drinks tasted. My latte had a lovely, freshly roasted taste with a hint of sweeteners from coconut milk. His drip had a great flavor. When you go out there, be sure to look for this place.
